As the device manufacturers ramp up the flexibility of their product and the carriers expand their capabilities, the content owners will reap the rewards of a new and ever expanding universe of audio, video and text-based customers. As quickly as the device manufacturer releases a new generation of product, six month old devices become obsolete and within months, the next-new generation of product and services emerges. In this session we will explore what the product cycle of the new-new next generation will look like and how the content the entertainment and information industries can best take advantage of the rapid progress. Frank recently returned to Microsoft after founding and acting as President of Filter Media (now Brightline Partners) a leading strategic consulting agency for the digital media industry, including interactive television, broadband entertainment and advanced digital service systems. Filter Medias clients include AT&T Broadband, Mattel, Broadcom, Discovery Digital Networks, Burly Bear Networks, Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, Microsoft, and FCB Worldwide. During his first tour of duty at Microsoft, Frank was a senior producer and business development manager for MSN and MSNBC. There Frank built and ran MSNBCs interactive content, broadband products and interactive television businesses for both the web and broadcast networks. His achievements at that stage are chronicled in the book "The Inside Story of Interactive TV and Microsoft WebTV for Windows" (Morgan Kaufmann Publishers). Franks worked has appeared and he has been quoted in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Variety, The Los Angeles Times, Broadcasting and Cable, Advertising Age, USA today, Electronic Media, PC Magazine, Multichannel News and CBS MarketWatch. In addition he has given industry vision speeches at conferences such as Streaming Media East, Garage.com Bootcamp, National Association of Television Program Executives National Conference, National Association of Broadcasters National Conference, TV Meets the Web Amsterdam, Windows Hardware Engineering Conference, Broadband Content Forum Zurich, and mecon [Ineteractive] in Cologne Germany. After his first stint with Microsoft, Frank also held an executive position at Onvia.com where he was Vice President of Business Development. There he drove the companys business development team and played a key role in the mergers and acquisitions strategy. Guest speaker at JavaOne 2003, Mobile Musicon Conference, and other industry gaming/entertainment events.Michael Boyd serves as director of business development for QUALCOMM Technologies and Ventures (QT&V). In his role, he is responsible for managing all aspects of content provider partnerships for MediaFLO. MediaFLO is an end-to-end system that enables secure and efficient delivery of high-quality media content to a large number of subscribers over wireless networks. Prior to joining QUALCOMM, Boyd served as the president and CEO of Wireless Multimedia Solutions, a content provisioning software company and was vice president of business development at Summus, Inc., a wavelet based image and video codec supplier. Prior to that, Boyd served as director of product management at ABB, where he received recognition for launching the first wireless telemetry solution for the electric utility industry leveraging both public terrestrial and satellite networks. Boyd held a variety of management and marketing positions at IBM from 1989 through 1996. During his 8-year span at IBM, he managed a software development group and was a product manager in IBMs Wireless and Mobile Business Unit, where he received recognition for launching the industrys first PCMCIA Wireless Modem in 1995. Mr. Boyd graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a MBA degree from the University of North Caroline at Chapel Hill. Debra Kennedy is currently the General Manager, Multimedia Marketing, Nokia Mobile Phones North America. In this role, she leads the marketing efforts for the feature rich, cutting edge phones in the gaming, imaging and media space for Nokia. Debra has developed integrated marketing programs for over fifteen phone launches and developed the marketing plans for the 5100 phone, the largest volume phone to date in the U.S. In 2003, Debra was chosen to be the Americas lead for the launch of an entirely new brand and product category for Nokia, N-Gage. During the time Debra has been in leadership roles at Nokia, brand preference has grown 15%, Nokia sales have grown from $2 billion to $9 billion, and the brand has consistently been named one of the top ten most valuable brands in the world by Interbrand. The campaigns Debra has led have won numerous awards including an Effie, an award based on the effectiveness of a campaign. Debra, during her career has led marketing and brand strategy, research, advertising, media buying, sponsorships, business-to-business programs, events and viral marketing. Debra has been with Nokia Mobile Phones since 1998. Previously, Debra spent four years developing marketing strategy and programs for Pizza Hut as a Division Marketing Director. Prior to Pizza Hut, she worked in various marketing roles at T.G.I. Fridays. Debra resides in Dallas and enjoys running, exploring new international destinations, wine tasting, and spending time with family and friends. Luis Ubiñas is a Director in McKinsey & Companys West Coast Media, Entertainment and Technology Practice, dividing his time between offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles and also overseeing the practice in Seattle and Denver. Since joining the Firm in 1989, he has focused on serving media, communications and technology companies undergoing major change entering or exiting businesses or redesigning core processes. Luis has extensive experience in the telecommunications and cable industries: helping build consumer high-speed data businesses; introducing advanced digital set-top boxes and services; and, now, helping design the early VOIP trials. In cable operations, he has worked with MSOs across a broad range of activities, including channel line-up standardization, rebuild prioritization, and purchasing. Luis work for other media companies has been operations-focused, helping several newspapers improve circulation and advertising sales and working with content companies to improve international distribution and developing digital distribution strategies. For technology companies, Luis has worked with early entrants in the home networking, digital set-top box manufacturers and other hardware providers. In addition, he has served a large number of technology start-ups as part of his work with venture capital firms. Before joining McKinsey, Luis worked at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, concentrating on marketing and strategy assignments. He also worked briefly as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, and as assistant to the CEO of the Honduran beer and soft drink (Coca-Cola) monopoly. Luis has an A.B. in government, magna cum laude, from Harvard College, and an M.B.A. (Baker scholar) from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the Boards of the Digital Coast Roundtable in Los Angeles and the SteppingStone Foundation in Boston.Geoff Graber, Director, Yahoo! Games, Yahoo! Inc.: Geoff Graber is director of Yahoo! Games (http://games.yahoo.com), one of the primary offerings within Yahoo!s Media and Entertainment business unit. Graber oversees the strategy and business direction for Yahoo! Games, including content creation, business development, web site production, marketing and engineering. Yahoo! Games is currently the No. 1 games site on the Web according to Nielsen//NetRatings and hosts more than 10 million unique users and 6 billion minutes of game play per month. Before heading up Yahoo! Games, Graber formulated and executed business development strategies for Yahoo! Mobile. He was responsible for establishing and fostering integral partnerships with wireless carriers, technology companies, handset OEMs and content developers, including major deals with Verizon Wireless, AT&T Wireless, and Qualcomm. Graber also spearheaded the key initiative to build a mobile games business for Yahoo!. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Graber spent nearly 10 years in the interactive entertainment industry. In 1994, he formed Electronic Arts operation in China and served as the Managing Director until 1998. Thereafter, he co-founded Muse Corporation, a provider of an interactive, multiplayer software platform for broadband entertainment applications. Next, Graber developed a background in the mobile entertainment space, consulting for clients such as Nokia, Moviso (a Vivendi Universal company now owned by InfoSpace), and several mobile game developers. Graber started his career in high tech corporate finance and venture capital. He held top-level positions at BankAmerica Capital Corp. and IDG China Ventures. He also founded IQI Accessories, a developer of laptop computer products, and helped startup companies complete business plans and raise seed capital through his firm, PlanPerfect Startup Services. Graber holds a B.A. in East Asian Studies and Business from the University of California, Los Angeles. Jamie Rosenberg is Sr. Director, Program Management for Danger, In c. His responsibilities include overseeing Danger's premium content & services business (among other duties). In this role he coordinates a cross-functional team that includes platform development, developer relations, business development, marketing and carrier relations. Jamie joined Danger in July 2002, 3 months prior to Danger's first product launch with T-Mobile USA. During his tenure at Danger Jamie has overseen Carrier Deployment, Engineering Project Management, Product Management and Localization. Previously, Jamie worked in Venture Capital for Redpoint Ventures from 1999-2002, focusing on media and mobile data technologies. Jamie first became involved with Danger in Spring 2001, as part of a team at Redpoint that led Danger's Series B financing round. Before joining Redpoint Jamie served as Director, Interactive Programming for the National Basketball Association. He led the NBA's initial efforts in the interactive media space, including responsibility for the initial launch of NBA.com in 1995. Before this Jamie also served stints at Sports Illustrated, ESPN and Disney Online. Jamie has a B.A. from University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and an MBA from Stanford.
