Creative Business Ideas: Incubator for Entrepreneurship
In this session we bring together selected laureates from the World Summit Award and the Europrix Top Talent who share their expertise and present the best and most useful examples of multimedia technology and tools. The availability of adequate information and communication technology (ICT) skills is an important condition for the competitiveness of enterprises worldwide. There is an increasing demand for individuals with creativity and higher-level conceptual skills enabling enterprises to increase productivity and produce greater economic value. The session is relevant for multimedia producers from diverse areas of the eContent industry (online providers, portals, new media agencies, mobile operators, games developers, and educational software developers).

Adam Montandon co-founded the digital production agency HMC Interactive in 2004 and enjoys sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for digital technologies with others. Adam has been fascinated with new technology from an early age, and programmed his first computer game when he was 9 years old. Now 25, Adam graduated from the University of Plymouth's cutting edge Medialab Arts course with a First class Honours degree in 2003. Adam then studied at the UKs Institute of Digital Arts and Technology and was awarded a Master of Science with distinction in the field of Digital Futures in December 2004. In 2005 Adam founded the HMC MediaLab Organisation (www.hmcmedialab.org), a future focused digital arts community that involves over a thousand "interesting people doing interesting things". In just 2 years HMC was named as one of the top ten showcase technology companies in the UK with the Best of British award. Adam is heavily involved in the creation, design and production of cyber-architecture for public spaces, theme parks, attractions and events around the world.
David Wiltshire, Creative Developer, AKQA: David Wiltshire is a multimedia developer bas ed in London, UK. After graduating top of his class from art/science hybrid degree MediaLab Arts in 2005, his final year project APCompass received international interest and awards most noteworthy being a EuroPrix Top Talent Award in the category of Mobile Contents. Since graduation, David has been working for digital marketing agency AKQA as a Creative Developer, producing work for clients such as Nike, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Unilever. AKQAs commitment to innovation, creativity and quality has provided further opportunities for him to explore new technologies and practices with the company and their partners. Although currently working mainly in traditional commercial web development, David still retains a fascination with the explosive development of digital culture as a social phenomenon and is constantly looking for opportunities to become involved in their further development.
Siem Vaessen, Chief Operating Officer, Noterik BV: Siem Vaessen is an expert in traditiona l and new media, both on the level of concept, design and implementation. He started his career at the Dutch press agency ABC Press in 1993 where he was responsible for the hardcopy international photo archive which consisted of Magnum Photography, Corbis Photography and the Herb Ritts collection. In 1997 he was hired to manage the Dutch division of UPI and was co-responsible for the ongoing development of the digital photo archive through which UPI started delivering news imagery via the Internet. He worked as a photo-journalist and covered the conflict in Pakistani Kashmir and also covered the UN referendum in East-Timor in 1999. Mr. Vaessen founded the Internet company webcode (www.webcode.nl) in 1999 and has ever since been managing the development of a variety of web and multimedia applications. Mr. Vaessen is part of senior management at Noterik (www.noterik.com) and manages a vast amount of IT and IT research related projects within the field of new media.
Peter A. Bruck is General Manager of the Research Studios Austria within the Austrian Research Centers and division head for e-technologies and smart media at the ARC Seibersdorf research GmbH, the national public-private technology research organisation of Austria. He is also the honorary President of the ICNM - International Center for New Media, Salzburg and the Chairman of the Board of the European Academy of Digital Media-EADiM,Netherlands. Peter A. Bruck studied at the universities of Vienna, Iowa and at McGill, Montreal, and holds doctorates in law and communications, and master degrees in sociology and economics. He has taught at universities in Canada, US and Western Europe plus Israel and Poland and has over 25 years of experience in research and consulting in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Portugal, the US and Canada. Bruck has initiated EUROPRIX, Europes leading multimedia award, the Prix MultiMediaAustria and a number of national best practice competitions and awards in Western and Eastern Europe. Within the framework of the UN World Summit on Information Society, Bruck has organised the World Summit Award in e-content and creativity as a global event and process.
Safia Dziri is Director of information systems at the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel ( INA) in France. Her responsibilities cover the management of the section teams of networks, telecommunications, systems and bases data, studies and developments, and exploitation, as well as the managements of the budgets, human resources, and technological choices. In addition Ms Dziri is active in the design and realization of multi-media teachware prototyping, ergonomics, and user interface at the National Institute of Telecommunications (INT).
Pauline Thomas works as interactive designer and Junior Project Manager at Institute National l´Audiovisuel (INA) in France. She and her team were the overall winner and "cross media category winner" with the Project "Juicy Panic" at the Top Talent Award 2004 and won 2006 the Clics d´Or for the website ina.fr/archivespourtous. She presented her work in the field of Photography and Multimedia at 15 exhibitions and has years of experience in transdisciplinary practices such as video, photography, web, real time applications.
