Janice Min, Editor in Chief, Us Weekly: As Editor-in-Chief of Us Weekly, a role she h as held since July 2003, Janice Min has presided over the magazines consistent surge in total readership, garnering Us many of publishings most honorable awards including: Adweeks Editor of the Year 2004, #4 on Adweeks Hot List 2006, #3 on Adweeks Hot List in 2005 and Advertising Ages 2004 Magazine of the Year. Min has also been named one of New Yorks Rising Stars in 2006 as Crains 40 Under 40. Us is the news-driven and timely authority in celebrity journalism, and consistently delivers breaking celebrity news to its more than 11 million readers each week. Min has transformed the Us audience into what MRI has defined as a more affluent, smarter, younger readership. MRI, which measures reader psycho/demographic information, reports over 67% of Us readers are college educated and their median household income is $61,719. Us has shown the highest percentage audience growth among all MRI measured titles over the past five years (according to MRI) and recently average newsstands sales surpassed 1 million copies. To grab the spotlight within the competitive field of celebrity magazines, Min successfully infused Us with a distinct voicewitty, irreverent, urbane and clever. She is regularly featured on national television shows, including The Today Show and Good Morning America, in addition to being featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and the Associated Press. Since 2004, Min has been named one of Media Industry Newsletters 21 Most Intriguing Figures in Publishing, has been a subject of a New York Times 'Public Lives' profile and was featured as the cover story of KoreAM Journal as a leading Asian-American female. Min joined Us in March 2002 as Executive Editor. Prior to that, she served as Assistant Managing Editor at In Style from 1998 - 2001, where she was instrumental in launching several successful newsstand special issues, and she oversaw both In Style Weddings and In Style Makeover. Previously, Min served in the same role at Life magazine from 1997 - 1998. After receiving her graduate degree from Columbia Journalism School, she began her career as a writer for People where she rose up the ranks, ultimately becoming senior editor. Min recently moved into a residence in SoHo in New York City with her husband Peter Sheehy, a teacher at Horace Mann, and their sons, Will and Tate. Janice and Peter met at Columbia University where they both studied history as undergrads. Min was raised in Littleton, CO.
Daniel Scheinman, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cisco Media Solution s Group, Cisco Systems, Inc.: Daniel Scheinman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Cisco Media Solutions Group, is responsible for developing and marketing infrastructure products that help digital media content owners improve the content experience for consumers. In this role, he reports directly to Ciscos Chairman and CEO John Chambers. Scheinman has been with Cisco since 1992 and previously led Corporate Development, overseeing the merger and acquisition, venture investment, strategic alliance, and technology incubation functions within Cisco. Under his leadership, Corporate Development helped define how the network can serve as an innovation platform in emerging markets such as India and China. The group also completed more than 40 acquisitions, including Linksys and Scientific Atlanta. These acquisitions, in addition to Ciscos partnering and internal engineering efforts, have positioned the Cisco Media Solutions Group as a valuable partner to companies navigating the digital disruption of the media and entertainment industry. Scheinman has been a long-time champion for developing new, network-based distribution models for digital content. One example of Scheinmans sponsorship is News@Cisco, an online portal launched in 2000 with multi-media information on Ciscos opinion, strategy and news. To better serve the three million annual visitors to News@Cisco, Dan oversaw the development of technology that became the basis for Ciscos Digital Media Management business unit (DMMBU) launched in 2006 as part of Ciscos Emerging Technologies Group. Prior to assuming the role of Senior Vice President of Corporate Development in 2001, Scheinman was the general counsel at Cisco. He holds a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Duke University Law School and a political science degree from Brandeis University.
Frank E. Dangeard - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Thomson: Frank E. Dangear d was appointed Chairman & CEO of Thomson in September 2004. From September 2002 to September 2004, he was Senior Executive Vice President of France Telecom, and nonexecutive Chairman of Thomson. Mr. Dangeard joined Thomson in April 1997 as Senior Executive Vice President and was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors in July 2001. From September 1989 to April 1997, he was Managing Director of SG Warburg & Co. Ltd (later SBC Warburg) and from 1995, he was also Chairman of the Board of SBC Warburg (France). From September 1986 to June 1989, he was a lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and London. Mr. Dangeard is a board member of the French Electricity Company "Electricite de France" (EDF), of the mobile telecom operator Orange (France Telecom) and of the investment bank Calyon (Credit Agricole). He graduated from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales, the Paris Institut dEtudes Politiques and from Harvard Law School. He is a member of the New York Bar.
Jason Hirschhorn, President, Sling Entertainment Group: The Sling Entertainment Grou p was formed to define and create even richer and more engaging experiences for Slingbox customers as well as their family and friends. Jason is tasked with delivering entirely new applications and services enabled by the Slingboxs marriage of familiar TV programming and richly interactive web-connected devices. The Sling Entertainment Group is also chartered with managing Sling Medias existing and future collaborative efforts with content creators, distributors and advertisers. Prior to joining Sling Media, Jason Hirschhorn was a Founding Partner at TripleH Media Advisors, a digital media consultancy. Before TripleH, Jason was Chief Digital Officer at MTV Networks. At MTV Networks, Jason was responsible for the company's digital media businesses and interactive strategy. Hirschhorn joined MTV Networks in March 2000 via the acquisition of his company, Mischief New Media, a leading web site design and content development firm he founded to serve the entertainment industry.
BRIAN M. BUCHWALD: General Manager, nbbc: Brian Buchwald named General Man ager of nbbc (the National Broadband Company), an NBC Universal digital venture, in June 2006. Along with Mike Steib, Buchwald developed the business model for and managed the September 2006 launch of nbbc, a unique B2B service that empowers advertisers, content creators and publishers to access, monetize and distribute digital video. Buchwald is responsible for the business' sales, product and operations. Buchwald came to NBC Universal as vice president of Strategy & Business Development in December 2005. In that position, he played key roles in NBCU's acquisition of iVillage.com and the digital partnership between Telemundo and Yahoo! He was also the digital media representative to the company's Broadcast Affiliate Futures Committee, where nbbc was co-founded. Buchwald began his career in 1997 as an M&A investment banker in the Morgan Stanley Technology Group in Silicon Valley. In 2000, Buchwald joined DoubleClick, where he was promoted to run business development while holding the title of Director, Strategy & Corporate Development. Over the next several years, Buchwald oversaw strategy and business development for PointRoll, Inc. (sold to Gannett in June 2005), advised AT&T wireless on the successful launch of its e-commerce division, as well as the private equity firms General Atlantic Partners, Archer Martin, and BRM Capital on new digital ventures. Buchwald is a Short Hills, NJ, native and a graduate of Dartmouth College. He lives in Manhattan
Tom Lowry is a senior writer for BusinessWeek, responsible for the magazine's media and entertainment coverage. Prior to this position, Mr. Lowry was media editor for the magazine. He has penned and/or edited six cover stories since 2004, including "Can MTV Stay Cool?," a profile of CEO Judy McGrath and her efforts to remake her company for a digital world: "ESPN, The Empire," an analysis of how the hottest brand in sports plans to stay on top of rivals, and "Ruperts World," one of the first articles to add up all the Aussie moguls vast and growing powers. Another cover "MegaMerger" was completed in one day after Comcast made a hostile bid for Disney. "Nascar" ran the same week as the Comcast story as a regional cover on Southern newsstands, making Lowry the only BusinessWeek-er ever to have two covers in one week. He also wrote "Yao!," a sports biz story on the Chinese basketball phenom. Other cover story subjects have included the Vanishing Mass Market, Dick Parsons, Comcast, the NFL, and Bloomberg LP. Lowry is an alum of the University of Delaware, and was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Business and Economics Journalism at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. A newspaper veteran, he also did stints at the New York Daily News and USA Today, among others, before coming to BusinessWeek in 1999.
