The Piers: Reimagining and Transforming the Hudson River Waterfront"

The Piers along the Hudson River are at the heart of The New York Skyway, a once-in-a-generation project to reimagine New York City's waterfront into a “Landmark Vision” for a “Magnificent Three-Mile Waterfront Public Space.” The waterfront already has its first transformative marker, Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg’s “Little Island,” the enchanting 2.4 acre “Park” on 12th Street. And Google has developed the spectacular Pier 57 at 15th Street - there are a host of exciting and wonderful Piers to the south and the north, but for a moment, let’s try and imagine what “Public Spaces” could be “Created Along the Hudson” without restraint, thinking about recreation & sport, education, and culture. This is an opportunity for true “Public-Private Partnerships” in “Creative Development.” This is “The Challenge” we place before our “Urban Visionaries,” the great “Corporate Partners” from all over the city, our Visionary Philanthropists and Benefactors with the Vision to bring the “Best to New York.” The New York Skyway will not only be a “Gateway to Athletic Wellness and Sport,” but it will be an opening, a moment for reflection, to reimagine the New York Waterfront and transform it into a “National Destination.”
