Mary Schetter Butler, Director of Business Development, Motorola Connected Home Solutions: Mary Butler has more than 15 years of experience as an executive and entrepreneur in television programming, advertising sales and new media technology start-ups. Prior to joining Motorola, she served on the business development team at Akimbo as VP of Media. In this role at Akimbo, she was responsible for negotiating and developing revenue generating relationships with mainstream programming networks and studios as well as niche video providers for Akimbo’s VOD service to the TV. She also contributed to the programming strategy and development of the Akimbo Service. She negotiated signed agreements with key programming providers including Turner Broadcasting Networks, BBC Worldwide, Scripps Networks and MLB Advanced Media. Prior to Akimbo, she served as founding team member and VP of Media Alliances for Dotcast, a broadcast related datacasting company. She also was involved in fundraising efforts which resulted in major investments by the Walt Disney Company, GE Capitol and Intel. In addition, she contributed to corporate strategy and oversaw the marketing and PR activities. She also served as Director of Programming for Netchannel where she negotiated partnership agreements with over 25 cable and online networks and developed the advertising strategy for one of the first web enabled set-top box companies which was eventually purchased by AOLTV. Mary spent 11 years at Turner Broadcasting, first in San Francisco for cable sales representing all of the Turner properties, and then in Los Angeles as a national advertising executive for the CNN Networks. While there she headed the development of the Turner Cable Sales local advertising program that was established to direct the efforts of cable systems local advertising teams. As a national ad sales executive she helped launch CNN Interactive ad sales and was a member of IAB which collaborated to establish the standards for ad banners on Internet websites. Mary started her career as a research analyst for NBC affiliate, KRON-TV in San Francisco. She graduated on the Dean’s list from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a B.S. in Journalism, minor in Advertising.
