In Part II of the Digital Rights Management seminar, we will concentrate on the techniques and solutions available in enhancing the ability to distribute and sell digital content online in a secure and controlled manner. Security is issue one and the massive volume of data traffic to manage only exacerbates the problem. There are many fascinating solutions now in practice attacking the global problem of digital commerce, and with the proliferation of new Internet devices, from the PC to handhelds, the rules and standards which define this game must become absolutely clear.

Yangbin Wang, Founder Chairman and CEO, EnjoyWeb: Mr. Wang is a visionary technologist and experienced entrepreneur. Prior to EnjoyWeb, Mr. Wang was Director of Software Architecture in the Consumer Broadband Group of Oak Technology. He was also a cofounder and key technologist for two Silicon Valley digital video networking companies. As a leading Research Engineer for both General Instrument and Compression Labs, he received a "Silver Star " for his significant contribution in the development of the MPEG-2 encoder system for DirecTV. In addition, Mr. Wang is an active member of several international standardization committees, including the IETF and MPEG. Mr. Wang holds a MS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Florida.

Vincent Pluvinage joined Preview Software in June 1997 as President & CEO. In August 1998, he successfully merged Preview Software and Portland Software to create Preview Systems. From March 1987 to May 1997, he led the R&D, international operations, business development, and strategic marketing efforts for ReSound Corporation. Under his tenure, ReSound went from a four person start-up to a publicly held developer of advanced hearing technologies with over 1000 employees and $130 million in revenue. Prior to ReSound, Pluvinage was a researcher at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, N.J. and Homdel, N.J., where he worked on digital signal processing technology, including perceptual codecs, and signal extraction from noise. While at Bell Labs, he was recognized with an Exceptional Contribution Award. Dr. Pluvinage completed the Advanced Executive Management program at Stanford University and holds a Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Michigan as well as a degree in Applied Physics from the Université Catholique in Belgium, summa cum laude.



Sebastian Holst, Vice President Marketing, Artesia Technologies: As the Vice President of Marketing for Artesia Technologies, Sebastian provides overall strategic direction for all of the company's marketing initiatives, including product marketing, channel marketing, corporate communications, strategic alliances and advertising. Prior to joining Artesia Technologies, Sebastian was Vice President of Strategic Marketing for Inso Corporation. At Inso, he led both strategic and product direction for a suite of content management, asset management, and electronic publishing products for the Internet. In his 15 years in the commercial software industry, Sebastian has held general management, product management, business development, and engineering positions for DBMS, 4GL, and even biotech companies.





Armistead Whitney, co-founder, Chief Strategy Officer: Sekani: Previously with Internet strategy and services firm iXL, Armistead Whitney launched and served as Senior Vice President of the Digital Video Group (DVG) in New York, a broadband production and streaming division serving Viacom, ABC, HBO, Fox and others. His responsibilities included merging traditional broadcasting applications and production with next-generation streaming and delivery technologies. During his tenure, DVG received a national Emmy for PBS' "Elmo's World." Prior to that, he served as Vice President of iXL's Film and Video Group, which won more than 35 awards under his management. Whitney's responsibilities included managing a full-service film and video production division for clients such as Home Depot, Coca-Cola, Visa, and J. Walter Thompson. He also served as Director of Operations for Creative Video, Inc. and founded iXL's Video Library, Inc.



Ramzi Haidamus, Director of Business Development, Dolby Laboratories: In addition to his role as Director of Business Development, Mr. Haidamus manages Dolby's Music Delivery Initiative, which covers opportunities such as Electronic Music Distribution, DVD-Audio formats, and Digital Radio, as well as technologies including AAC, Dolby Digital, Dolby Headphone, and Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP). Mr. Haidamus' original role upon joining Dolby Laboratories in 1996 was to manage and oversee the licensing of professional and consumer encoder and decoder products for the DVD and broadcast markets. In addition, he was involved in the promotion of Dolby Digital for broadcast, DVD-Video and DVD-Audio. Prior to working for Dolby, Mr. Haidamus spent seven years at Stanford Research Systems (Sunnyvale, CA) working on signal-processing product development.







Steven K. Sprague, President and CEO, Wave Systems Corp.: Steven K. Sprague has positioned Wave Systems as the driving force behind the industry-wide movement to create a new e-commerce model for services and digital information. Steven has developed electronic commerce technology that is inexpensive, has open standards, and can be hardware and software-based device which enables secure transaction processing and distributed information metering in users' PCs, peripherals and set-top boxes. Mr. Sprague was a Vice President of Wave Systems from 1992 to 1995. In June 1995 he founded Wave Interactive Network, a specialized consumer distribution channel of Wave Systems Corp. After initial development of the channel, Wave Interactive Network was reacquired by Wave Systems Corp. and on May 23, 1996, Steven Sprague was elected President and COO of Wave Systems. In March of 2000 he took over responsibilities as CEO of the company. In 1999 he delivered presentations on the implications of the trusted environment at industry leading forums such as E3, Disruptive Technologies, Teclecosm, ISTPA and SDMI sessions and the 1999 IT Executive Forum at COMDEX. At the Giga Information Group Emerging Technology Conference, He demonstrated Wave's trusted client, EMBASSY, and won an award for "Most Innovation Product." Mr. Sprague is the son of Wave Chairman Peter Sprague, who founded the company in 1988. He has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cornell University. Currently residing in Lenox, MA, Mr. Sprague has two children and actively involves himself in local community events. He also participates with a group of area business executives who work together to use their knowledge for the benefit of local business projects.

Tony L. Clark, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Villa Montage Systems: Tony L. Clark brings more than 15 years of senior management experience to the company's executive team. Former Vice President for Corporate Strategic Planning and Alliances for the Bay Networks division of Nortel, Mr. Clark's responsibilities included directing the company's corporate vision, strategy and goals; providing consultation to Chairman and CEO, Dave House on key strategic and technical issues; analyzing emerging competitive threats; and researching potential inflection points. While Director of the Open Network Architecture program at Bay Networks, Mr. Clark skillfully negotiated Open BayRS routing and Optivity network management licenses and partnerships. At SynOptics, Mr. Clark was Product and General Manager of the SynOptics 3000 platform and directed the $200 million product line's planning, positioning and installed base marketing programs. As Bellcore's (now Telcordia) Director of Data Protocol Architecture, Mr. Clark spearheaded the development of its fast packet services positioning strategy, as well promoted and stimulated the deployment of international Switched Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS). Mr. Clark began his career as a member of the technical staff (MTS) at AT&T Bell Labs, where he developed ISDN hardware and system software. A graduate of Cornell University, Mr. Clark received his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering.

Steig Westerberg, President and Chief Executive Officer, Stream Theory: Steig is the founder of Stream Theory and a recognized business innovator who is broadening the use of streaming media as a business solution. With streaming video and audio becoming more commonplace, Steig is applying his expertise to the next important development for businesses: streaming software applications within corporate and open networks. Steig has authored the era of instant streaming delivery and management of software on the Internet, corporate Intranets and virtual private networks. Steig developed Stream Theory's concept, authored its business plan, cultivated private investors and aligned the company with strategic business partners and customers. His vision and knowledge of startup management and software development has guided the project for four years. Steig has over ten years experience managing and growing companies, including assisting startups while at Young, Craig + Company of Los Altos. As Audit/MIS Manager, his wide range of responsibilities included group management, financial statements and controls, audit and accounting research and programs, accounting systems, workplace efficiency and software technical support. Steig is a graduate of Montana State University with a B.S. in Accounting
