Video on a PDA is here, but what does that mean in the race to bring wireless video to the market as a whole. Wireless broadband is definitely the killer app that will spawn a transformation of every digital device, from the PDA and cellphone to the at home PC. What can we expect in the transition to broadband wireless? What services can we expect to see and what relationships will likely emerge between the media companies, content companies and the device or networking companies? Miller, Principal, McKinsey and Company, Moderator Andrew Loch, Co-founder & Vice President, Products, ActiveSky: As vice president of products, Andrew Loch directs ActiveSkys product development efforts with an emphasis on technology advancements for wireless applications. Lochs managerial experience has taken him through fifteen years in the telecommunications and information technology industries, leading both research and product development teams. Prior to joining ActiveSky, Loch was a founding member of Micromedical Industries Ltd., where he developed and commercialized mobile telemedicine systems, handheld Windows CE-based health-care devices and classified products for NASA Space Shuttle missions. Previously, while at Digital Equipment Corp., he was awarded the Employee Excellence Award for his innovative ideas and commitment to excellence in managing support systems for clients. Loch received a bachelors degree with first class honors in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Adelaide, Australia. He also has completed the Archaeus Institutes Certified Developer of Enterprise FIG program. Robert Tercek is President of Applications & Services for PacketVideo Corporation. As President of Applications & Services, he has assembled a creative team that is assisting programming providers to distribute their multimedia content on a unique and exciting platform wireless networks. Prior to PacketVideo, Tercek served as the Senior Vice President of Digital Media at Columbia TriStar Television, part of Sony Pictures Entertainment. There he established the studio's interactive TV production unit and carved distribution deals for interactive television programming in the US and Europe. Under his leadership, Tercek introduced interactive versions of the top two programs in syndicated television, "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune". Both programs are currently broadcast with interactive data embedded into the video signal. As a result of Terceks vision for interactive television, thousands of viewers with WebTV or similar set-top boxes play along with the game shows. Tercek's group also provided interactive TV software to Sonys Game Show Network. Tercek joined Sony Pictures in 1997 where he contributed to the launch of Sonys online game site, the Station@Sony.com, supervising the production of Internet games. Earlier, Tercek was the founder and creative director of 7th Level, a CD-ROM game developer. He was also a creative director for MTV: Music Television and supervised the launch of MTV in Asia. Tercek was distinguished with a Fulbright Grant for the study of languages and fine arts at the Christian-Albrechts University in Germany. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa cum Laude from Williams College in 1985 and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California School of Cinema-TV.Alex Kanakaris, CEO, Kanakaris Wireless: Alex Kanakaris combines a sweeping vision of the Internet, revolutionizing the convergence of information, entertainment content, and e-commerce. His recent experience includes: Devising the product positioning and pricing strategy for a privately held company with innovative streaming media technology. Helping a venture capital-backed incubator map the wireless landscape, catalog and prioritize potential investment "themes" and identify specific new high potential ventures. Determining the product positioning and partnering strategy for a major U.S. wireless telecommunications firm to improve its competitive position in Europe. Evaluating the business case and developing the commercialization strategy for a leading industrial company considering entering the rechargable battery market for cellular phones, PDAs, etc. Refining the value proposition, business model and alliance strategy for an e-commerce company with innovative interactive messaging technology. Determining how a major Japanese automobile manufacturer should migrate their traditional U.S. dealer distribution system to an Internet-based, lean distribution model. In addition to his client work, Tony is one of the co-leaders of the West Coast High Tech practice and Communication Cluster sub-sector and is involved in a number of internal knowledge building initiatives. He has recently completed work assessing broadband's impact on the demand for IT services by small and medium enterprises and is currently leading an initiative to understand the likely evolution of consumer applications in the wireless environment. Tony holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, where he received the Harting Industrial Design Award; and an M.B.A. from Stanfords Graduate School of Business, where he completed his study at Stanford Center for Technology & Innovation, Kyoto, Japan.
