If P2P is ever to lose its renegade status in the entertainment industry, it will have to be find a way of joining hands with the Digital Rights Management community and find new and complimentary ways of monetizing its technology. Some experts feel that DRM and P2P are mutually exclusive concepts and that any hope of finding a solution is a waste of time. In this session, we bring together the country’s leading DRM experts who have confronted the issue. With billions of dollars at stake and the hopes of both the technology and entertainment at their mercy, we anxiously await their conclusions.

Ranjit Singh is president and chief operating officer (COO) of ContentGuard, Inc. With more than 20 years of experience in the computer and networking industries, Singh provides ContentGuard with strong leadership in a number of key areas, including product direction, market development and business strategy. Singh also is responsible for leading the promotion of XrML as an open standard for digital rights management. Prior to Xeroxí spin-off of ContentGuard, Singh held the positions of senior vice president and general manager of the iXerox group and general manager of the Xerox Rights Management business unit (now ContentGuard, Inc.) at Xerox Corporation. Prior to Xeroxí spin-off of ContentGuard, Singh held the positions of senior vice president and general manager of the iXerox group and general manager of the Xerox Rights Management business unit (now ContentGuard, Inc.) at Xerox Corporation. Before joining Xerox in 1997, Singh was vice president of Global Distributed Computing at Citibank. In 1996, while at Citibank, he was awarded Service News Magazineís ìMost Innovative Service Awardî for standardizing the distributed computing infrastructure and reducing total cost of ownership, while increasing product delivery times. In addition, Singh has been a principal at two start-up companies and has held executive positions at Data General and Digital Equipment Corporation. Singh holds a Bachelorís and a Masterís degree from the University of Bath, U.K., and a Master of Business Administration degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, U.K.

James Thielen, President and CEO, NetActive: Jim Thielen came to NetActive from positions with the American Red Cross and Eastman Kodak Company. With proven domestic and international business experience, he brings to NetActive a broad understanding of business operations for several large businesses. Mr. Thielen has a consistent track record of leading multi-functional business operations focusing on growth of revenues and earnings and development of new business models. He is a member of the Alumni Advisory Council for the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. His educational background includes a B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of Rochester.

Talal Shamoon, Senior VP, Media, Intertrust: Talal Shamoon has served at InterTrust as Senior Vice President, Media, since February 1999. Dr. Shamoon joined InterTrust in June 1997 as a member of the research staff of STAR Lab. Previously, he had been at NEC Research Institute in Princeton, an advanced research facility of NEC focused on computer science and physics. His work there focused on multimedia security, signal processing and data compression. Dr. Shamoon holds a Ph.D, M.Eng and B.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell University.











Tony Schaller, CTO & Senior Vice President of Technology, RioPort: As CTO and senior vice president of technology Tony Schaller is responsible for all engineering and technology efforts behind RioPort's design, software and Web activities. Since joining RioPort in October 1999, Schaller has played a key role in the design and building of RioPort's Web and database architectures and has been instrumental in creating the RioPort-powered digital audio platform for its branded partners. Schaller, the author of several issued and pending technology patents, brings nearly 20 years of technology experience to RioPort. Prior to joining RioPort, Schaller served in vice president and chief technology officer roles at companies including Ticketmaster Online-City Search, ECI/Instant Object, MDL Information Systems, Intersect Software and Carnegie-Mellon University. With his extensive background of serving as lead technologist for numerous successful companies, Tony Schaller is well suited to participate as a panel speaker for Digital Hollywood Broadband. As a participant, he can provide an insightful and knowledgeable perspective on a range of subjects, from the capabilities and limitations of next-generation digital audio products to the issues and promises behind the implementation of current/future DRM security measures.

Zach Nelson is President and Chief Executive Officer of myCIO.com, Network Associates' business-to-business ASP/MSP division. Mr. Nelson is responsible for all product development and business aspects of the myCIO.com unit. Mr. Nelson is also an executive officer of Network Associates. Mr. Nelson joined Network Associates from Oracle Corporation in 1996. At Oracle, he held several senior management positions, most recently as Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. During his four-year tenure, Mr. Nelson developed marketing and sales programs that helped drive Oracle's annual revenues from $1.18 billion in 1992 to $4.22 billion in 1996. Prior to Oracle, Mr. Nelson served in a variety of management positions at Sun Microsystems Inc., including Director of Corporate Marketing at SunSoft Inc., a division of Sun Microsystems. While at SunSoft, he drove the corporate launch of the new software arm of Sun Microsystems, including the creation of the company's Solaris product line. Mr. Nelson holds both a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from Stanford University
