As the need for broadband becomes more acute, the ability for providers to deliver fast, reliable, scalable, and secure video services to their customers via satellite is a no-brainer. Satellites not only enable content providers to broadcast digital and streaming media to DSL providers, cable headends, ISPs and broadband wireless providers worldwide, they are also the next wave in delivering all direct to the home broadband services. The satellite industry can be a potential partner for broadband providers as well as all in one provider of the broadband product itself. VideoCenter provides online media applications including stream-on-demand and webcasting services, along with tools such as remote content management, online syndication, cataloging, search and retrieval. Kipp also plays an integral role directing Pathfire's StreamTracker system that provides control, management and distribution of media content. Prior to Pathfire, Kipp co-founded DirectSight Networks, and was involved in the development of key software and technologies for Harbinger Corporation and Homecom Communications. Kipp has been active in Internet and network technologies research and development since 1994, and is an active member of IEEE, ACM and the Internet Society. Kipp holds a BS in computer science from the University of Nebraska and an MS in computer science from Georgia Institute of Technology.Clint Chao, Vice President of Marketing for SkyStream Networks: Clint Chao is vice pre sident of marketing for SkyStream Networks where he is responsible for developing and leading the strategic marketing direction of the company and business development efforts. Prior to joining the company in May 1998, Chao served as senior director of marketing at C-Cube Microsystems where he was responsible for all aspects of marketing for C-Cube's PC/CODEC Division. At C-Cube, he was responsible for forging relationships with leading PC and PC component manufacturers including Compaq, Creative Labs, Dell, Gateway, Intel, and Toshiba. These partnerships helped to make C-Cube the #1 worldwide supplier of DVD semiconductors to the personal computer market. During his eight-year tenure at C-Cube, he was also instrumental in establishing the company's presence in the digital broadcast market. As a strategic accounts manager to the broadcast industry, he established key relationships with the industry's first digital broadcasters, such as AT&T, Compression Labs, DirecTV/Thomson-RCA, General Instrument, Philips and Scientific Atlanta. Prior to joining C-Cube, Chao spent six years with Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector in several sales management positions in Silicon Valley.Jim Britain is currently the Vice President of Sales for NDS. Mr. Britain is responsible for the secure distribution of entertainment and information services over digital broadcasting media, including the Internet to televisions and personal computers. In his role, Mr. Britain is also leading NDS to a leadership position of interactive television applications and datacasting. Mr. Britain has spent 25 years in the communications industry, with senior positions in operations, marketing, research, finance and sales. Prior to NDS, Mr. Britain was Vice President of Sales for DigitalXpress, a division of the Boeing Satellite Group, which delivered, via satellite, digital video, audio and data streaming to Fortune 500 companies both domestically and internationally. Ram Viswanathan, Vice President of Marketing, Cidera: Ramachandran Viswanathan was previously Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales for WorldSpace Corporation, where he was responsible for both the launch of streaming audio and multimedia services and building a consumer media brand in the emerging markets of Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. Prior to that, he served at WorldSpace as Vice President, Strategy and Business Development. Mr. Viswanathan was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, where he served Fortune 500 clients in the software, computing, and telecommunications industries. He has also held positions at Goldman, Sachs & Company and Atma Technologies. Ram previous speaking experience include various Goldman Sachs conferences, Streaming Media East 2000, and NAB. Jim Stroud is the Editor and an Analyst for The Carmel Group. He edits the company's two main publications, DBS Investor and Convergence Investor, and did the new graphic look for Convergence Investor. He also edited The Carmel Group's Asia 2000: The DBS Data Book. Mr. Stroud's career in market research began with Great Western Directories (which is now known as Worldpages.com), where he focused on creating ad campaigns for new markets. Mr. Stroud also served as a Marketing Manager for Dolphin Peripherals, a leading PCI I/O card manufacturer. Mr. Stroud holds a BA degree in Literature from West Texas State University. Mr. Stroud is regularly consulted and his views are consistently quoted in publications and web sites, such as Investor's Business Daily, Wired, CBS Marketwatch, USA Today, MSNBC, The DenverPost, The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, Telephony magazine and Enterprise magazine. His duties at The Carmel Group also include the writing and editing of two data books, Streaming Media 2000 and Broadband 2000, which are scheduled for release later this year.Sam Baumel, Senior Director of Marketing, Hughes Network Systems - Consumer Division, Sam Baumel is Senior Director of Marketing for Hughes Network Systems (HNS), responsible for marketing HNS consumer products (DirecPC, DirecDuo and DIRECTV System receivers) to the retail channel. Baumel has more than eighteen years of experience in sales and marketing, with over ten years of experience in consumer product marketing. Baumel has been with HNS since 1992, and prior to his responsibilities with the HNS Consumer Division, he served as Marketing Director for the company's cellular subscriber products. Before joining HNS, Baumel worked in a variety of sales and marketing positions, including merchandising management and international sales management for Fujitsu America's cellular telephone products. Geoff Allen is founder, president and CEO of Anystream. A several-time entrepreneur, Allen also founded and was president & CEO of Axicom, a developer of digital video advertising insertion systems for the cable television industry; and was co-founder, CEO and CTO for Source Digital, a systems integrator focused on digital video production systems. Allens experience also includes serving as the Chief Technology Officer of iXL, Inc.s Washington D.C region. |
