It takes the expertise of a technology with very special skills to make the syndication process into a viable business experience. Keeping control of your data is of course the important element. Therefore, making it available to others in a secure, traceable, scalable and ultimately profitable environment is the goal. Whether your organization is syndicating audio, video graphics or text in live feeds or from archives, finding the right partners and resources is a priority. In this session, we will try to understand the various technological problems facing syndication on the Net. He came to Inktomi with the acquisition of FastForward Networks, where he had held the same position since joining the company in January 2000. Prior to FastForward, Saldich worked with startup companies since 1988, in a wide variety of technologies like video capture, speech recognition, networking and wireless data networking. He holds a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's of business administration from Harvard Business School. Rand Bleimeister is Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of FirstLook: FirstLook launched in New York on September 15, 1999. Founded in January 1999, FirstLook is backed by idealab! , the renowned Internet business incubator, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a leading venture capital firm, and Woodstock Ventures, owner of the Woodstock Music Festival and trademark. Bleimeister is a leader in the entertainment and interactive industries with more than 20 years of sales and marketing management experience. Before FirstLook.com, Bleimeister served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Scoop Inc., a Web-based business news and information service. At Scoop, he was responsible for the direction and development of IntelliSearch, a sophisticated online tool for business research. In October 1998, Bleimeister sold the assets of Scoop to Solutions Corporation of America, Nashville TN, and The Call Company of Newport Beach, California. Prior to Scoop, Bleimeister served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Virgin Interactive Entertainment where he developed and implemented all sales, marketing, manufacturing, distribution, and customer support strategies in the Western Hemisphere. During his two-year tenure, revenues from North American computer game sales increased over 600%. Bleimeister developed the companys Internet strategy, and launched its Web site, online store, and Web-based technical support. During his career, Bleimeister has held senior management positions at major entertainment companies including Columbia TriStar where he served as Senior Vice President of Special Interest & Interactive Programming and Nelson Entertainment where he served as Executive Vice President. Bleimeister is credited with developing a revolutionary, PC-based co-op Advertising Management System at EMD, a division of Capitol/EMI Music where he served as Vice President of Marketing & Strategic Planning. Previous positions include sales and marketing management roles at Embassy Home Entertainment (acquired by Nelson Entertainment), and Warner Home Video. Bleimeister attended Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif., where he graduated with a bachelors degree in political science.Michael Collette, Senior Vice President Marketing, ICTV: As Senior Vice President of Mar keting for ICTV, Michael Collette is responsible for the positioning and marketing of ICTVs overall architecture and content platforms. Collette has served in a variety of executive positions in the technology and entertainment industries. Most recently, Collette was president of California-based MediaTech Strategies, Inc., a consulting company he founded in 1996. Under his leadership, the company provided advanced product design, strategic planning and acquisition searches for entertainment companies, communications equipment manufacturers and system operators, including such companies as Scientific-Atlanta, Philips, Samsung and SONY. Previously, Collette served as Director of Satellite Services for General Instrument, where he was influential in the companys digital television product development, systems implementation and satellite strategy. Collettes experience in the entertainment industry, began in 1992 when he developed new marketing tactics and business plans for TVN Entertainment. Previously, he also served as Director of Consumer Sales and Marketing for Playboy Entertainments Satellite Television Group. Collettes international savvy extends to the Far East. Having lived in Australia and Japan, Collette developed competitive economic development bids for the State of Queensland, Australia, and conducted global studies of public sector efforts to stimulate high tech entreprenueurship in Tokyo. He holds a Masters of Business Administration from UCLAs Anderson Graduate School of Management and undergraduate degrees in English and Social Science from University of California - Berkeley.Bill Foulkes, Vice President, Business Development, Context Media: Bill joined Context Media from Telesis/Towers Perrin, a strategy consulting firm specializing in market entry strategies for broadband and telecommunications technologies. At Telesis, Bill's contributions included managing major customer relationships and contributing to the firm's expansion into several new lines of business. Prior to Telesis, Bill managed several brands for The Gillette Company which represented nearly $200M of that company's business. Bill's background also includes time spent serving as an assistant vice president at Waller Capital Corporation, and as an analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department at Morgan Stanley. Bill graduated from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration with an MBA, and earned his B.A. in History from Harvard University. David Mathison, Chairman, CEO and co-founder, Kinecta: Mr. Mathison is a recognized i ndustry expert on content syndication and aggregation with more than a decade of experience in digital content storage, distribution and management. Prior to joining Kinecta Corporation, Mr. Mathison created and implemented profitable Internet-based products for Reuters. He was most recently Vice President of Global Syndication for Reuters NewMedia, where his legacy has provided millions of Internet users with the free news available on the web's most popular portals, communities and vertical sites. During his tenure, Reuters pioneered the profitable model of content syndication on the web. Previously, Mr. Mathison was Director of Client/Server Products and Services at Software Spectrum, the third largest software reseller in the United States. Mr. Mathison previously held sales and marketing positions for Ovid Technologies, where he was tasked with the global sales and marketing of medical, scientific and technical data online and via CD-ROM. Mr. Mathison graduated cum laude from the State University of New York and holds an M.A. from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. He has presented at various industry events and forums, including Seybold Seminars, Internet World, ICE Summit and Syndication Summit. Benjamin Appen is the CEO and founder of Alkindi, a leading provider of personalization services. Alkindi's improvements to the theory and practice of collaborative filtering technology have led to the company's recommendation algorithms being rated highest in user tests. Prior to founding Alkindi, Mr. Appen worked at D. E. Shaw & Co., a New-York based investment firm focusing on quantitative trading and technology venture capital activities. A Senior Vice President, Mr. Appen most recently co-managed a team of seven building the firm's Internet incubator. In addition, he was responsible for allocating roughly $23 million in venture capital investments, personally raised funds in excess of $100 million and directed an asset management division investing in excess of $500 million. Mr. Appen currently serves on the board of directors of Schrodinger, Inc., a computational chemistry software pioneer, and has spoken at multiple international conferences. In 1992, Mr. Appen graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from Columbia University. |
