According to a JP Morgan report, the purchasing of various types of digital content (i.e. music, movies, publishing) will exceed $275 Billion by the year 2003. How can content companies best leverage a peer-to-peer model? Its so unique, that its spawned words like viral marketing and turned community building in an entertainment industry nightmare. But now that people have had a taste of free content via Napster, Aimster and other P2P websites, are there any methods that content producers can employ in order to help facilitate the distribution of their content online? What are different encryption technologies available to protect the content? Will the markets demand for content have a role in evolving current copyright law? Prior to founding SecureMedia, Oswald was Director of the Internet Products Division at Borland International, where he led the company's Internet strategy and its early adoption of Java technology. He also led Borland's Quattro Pro product marketing team. Early in his career, Oswald was successful in turning around a family-owned software company that specialized in database development products. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an Engineering Sciences degree from Dartmouth College, specializing in Electronic Design. Oswald has spoken at ICE, Borland Developer Conference, COMDEX, CeBIT, RealNetworks Conference, Entrepreneurial Forums, User Groups (NYPC) and a number of other forums. He is a regular guest on Tech TV's Silicon Spin. Ravi Razdan is the founder, CEO and CTO of the StreamTone, Inc. He is a seasoned tech nologist and entrepreneur having founded various Internet start-up ventures including InfoUtility. InfoUtility was the first implementation of the now famous ASP model for a Web based office suite in 1997. InfoUtility technology was acquired in 1998 by an insurance industry ASP. Mr Razdan also ran a successful consulting practice for the last eight years creating technology solutions and setting business and e-commerce strategies for clients such as Universal Music and Motion Pictures Group, Nortel, Air France, McKesson, HNC Software and Unisys working in North America, Europe and India. His background includes publishing papers and public speaking on the topics of Information Utilities, Network Computers, Electronic Commerce, Secure Online Music Distribution, Web Services, Object Technology and Network Security. Ravi holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (Honors) REC - Kashmir, India.Gary Ambrosino, Executive VP, SecureMedia: Gary Ambrosino is a technology visionary with over 20 years of management experience in developing and selling critical infrastructure te chnology solutions. Ambrosino joined the SecureMedia board in 1998 and became Chairman in 1999. He took on a full time operating role in the company in May 2000 following the company's first venture financing round. He joined SecureMedia from Xionics Document Technologies, the world leader in digital copier and printing systems technology. Ambrosino joined Xionics when it was an early stage company, and led the integration of several leveraged buyouts and acquisitions that resulted in Xionics growing from $6 million to a $38 million public company. As Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Xionics , he led the company's development of a highly integrated next generation operating system and VLSI chip product line. He was responsible for developing Xionics' first key strategic customers including Hewlett-Packard and Ricoh Corporation, which combined, represented $75 million of revenue for Xionics. Previously Ambrosino founded two successful startup companies, serving as their president and CEO. He spent eight years at Hewlett-Packard in various marketing positions. Ambrosino holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSEE from Cornell University. SecureMedia is based in San Francisco, CA with offices in Boston, MA and Auckland, New Zealand.Jason Grosfeld founded Softwax in December 1999. Prior to founding Softwax, Jason was a private investor in Internet technology start-ups, focusing on digital music and film infrastructure products. Previously, Jason spent three years at HPB Associates, a New York City based private hedge fund, where he managed technology issues ranging from semi-conductor stocks to Internet companies. Jason got his start in the financial management business at BlackRock Financial Management, a venerable fixed-income money management firm based in New York. Featured in a July 24th article in Interactive Week Magazine entitled, "Napster Mirage," Jason has been coveted as a an industry leader within the P2P space. Jason is also featured in an upcoming P2P report being published by Forrester research, addressing the current and future landscape of peer-to-peer as a viable business platform. In addition, Jason has engaged Softwax in strategic advisory roles with both Sun Microsystems and Intels peer-to-peer research groups. Jason earned a bachelors degree in English from Amherst College.David E. Leibowitz is Chairman of Verance. Mr. Leibowitz brings more then 20 years of experience in copyright, media, communications, and technology matters, as well as business i ssues facing the entertainment, new media, consumer electronics and computer industries. Verance, successor company formed from the merger of ARIS Technologies, Inc. and Solana Technology Development, Corp., is an industry leader in proprietary audio watermarking systems and solutions that identify, authenticate and protect intellectual property and other content in physical carrier, broadcast, online and other transmission environments. Its technology has been honored by Discover Magazine as Technology of the Year in the Sound Category and has been selected as the global industry standard for DVD Audio copy control and for Phase One of the Secure Digital Music Initiative. Mr. Leibowitz previously served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), responsible for business and legal issues facing the industry with particular emphasis on how to position the industry to utilize new physical and electronic format systems. Prior to that, Leibowitz was a partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm Wiley Rein & Fielding, handling domestic and international business, legislative and regulatory matters pertaining to the entertainment and communications industries. Earlier in his career, Leibowitz served as Policy Planning Advisor to the Register of Copyrights for the U.S. Copyright Office, implementing provisions of the Copyright Act of 1976, developing U.S. government policy positions, and representing the Copyright Office and the United States Government in numerous Congressional hearings United Nations conferences, and other domestic and international fora.Mark Kapczynski has been with Microsoft for 5 Years in MCS-Socal, focusing for the past few years on developing the eCommerce solutions group. Mark now is leading the Media and Entertainment Group within MCS. Mark specializes in the program management and the architecture for Microsoft .NET Entertainment Solutions. He has worked closely with several key Microsoft entertainment customers including: Warner Bros., Universal Studios, Artist Direct, Launch Media, Kabang and more. In addition, Mark is helping to define the Microsoft Entertainment Framework, consisting of technology to enable the Digital Entertainment Marketplace. Jack Kay, 54, is president and chief executive officer of Hotline Communications (www.big redh.com), the pioneer of peer-to-peer communications and community-building software. His responsibilities include defining Hotlines business strategy, positioning the company apart from other Peer-to-Peer (P2P) companies/technologies in the industry, and identifying market and alliance opportunities. Jack brings more than 25 years of experience in the computer and software industries to Hotline. His combination of management skills, public company experience, and internet and high tech knowledge are critical as Hotline evolves from a freenet P2P file-sharing technology into a solid business application for use among portals, auction sites and Business-to-Business Netmarkets. Prior to joining Hotline, Jack served as president and chief executive officer of Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: PTEC), a world leader in systems enabling software. Jacks many accomplishments at Phoenix include creating the single largest virtual-brand PC for its internet partners and increasing the companys market capitalization by more than a factor of 8. Jack holds a Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry from Wayne State University, an MBA in Marketing from New York University and a BA from Hunter College, City University of New York. |
