| Tuesday, May 16 12:30 PM - 1:45 PM Session A: Broadband Entertainment Program-ming and Content Development In the past three months the entertainment industry has clearly staked its claim with regard to the creation of original programming, innovative technology and the desire to serve a massive viewer audience on the Net. Every day executives from traditional content companies join Internet start-ups that are dedicated to providing new forms of content with an eye toward reinventing the entertainment industry. Not to be left out of the game, the traditional media companies are either investing in these new groups or are forming new divisions to compete. On this roundtable we bring together a group of the leaders in this new movement toward broadband entertainment independence. Caroline Beck, Chief Operating Officer, Intertainer Margaret Heffernan, Chief Executive Officer, iCAST David Bohrman, CEO, Pseudo Jonathan Braun, CEO, Medium4.com David Wertheimer, Chairman & CEO, Wirebreak Todd Harris, President and CEO, Hitplay Media Mark Lieberman, Chairman and CEO, Softcom Jonathan Goldsmith, Principal Consultant, PricewaterhouseCoopers Entertainment & Media Practice, Moderator Caroline Beck, Chief Operating Officer, Intertainer: Caroline Beck joined Intertainer in David Bohrman, CEO, Pseudo: Prior to Pseudo, he was Executive Vice President at CNNfn where he directed all production, operations, news coverage, and programming. Before joining CNNfn, Mr. Bohrman was the Executive Producer at NBC News responsible for all live breaking news and major event coverage, including the Oklahoma City bombing, the O.J. Simpson case, "Election '94," and dozens of presidential speeches and news conferences. He also created MSNBC's television production of the "Imus in the Morning" show, which has become the highest-rated daily program on MSNBC. Mr. Bohrman's experience also includes work at ABC News as the senior producer of "Nightline," "World News Tonight," and ABC's Special Events unit. While at ABC, he launched ABC News InterActive, the world's first new media unit within a major media company. Additionally, he holds numerous technology awards, a patent for a pioneering interactive video technology, and multiple Emmy Awards. Mr. Bohrman holds an MS from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and BS degrees in both Physical Science and French from Stanford University Mark Lieberman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Softcom: As an entrepreneur, executive, venture capitalist and government official, Mark Lieberman has played a leading role in advancing the convergence between technology, communications and media. Mr. Lieberman joined Softcom as CEO in January 2000 after serving as Chairman of the Board for one year. Previously, Mr. Lieberman served as President of About.com Ventures, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, investments, strategic partnerships, and channel development. From 1996 through 1998, Mr. Lieberman was the Executive Vice President, Entertainment, Communications & Media division of Cahners Business Information, a Reed Elsevier company, where he oversaw the company's entertainment assets, including Variety, Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News magazines. Mr. Lieberman served in the Bush Administration from 1989 through 1991 as Associate Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary for Technology (Acting) at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Among his accomplishments, Mr. Lieberman led the U.S. in negotiations with Japan and the European Community on high-technology research programs. Mr. Lieberman has also practiced intellectual property law and clerked at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He attended law school at the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law in New York City, and graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1981. David Wertheimer, CEO, WireBreak Entertainment: David Wertheimer, Chairman, President & CEO - The chief executive of WireBreak Networks, David has been in the online and Todd Harris is the founder of Hitplay Media, Inc. and serves as its President and CEO. Until July 1999, Mr. Harris worked as Director of Creative Development at NBC, where he oversaw broadband-related business development and strategic partnerships for NBC Interactive. He was also the General Manager of NBC's VideoSeeker Web site, an award winning streaming video portal that he created in 1998. Mr. Harris is a noted author, speaker, and commentator about new media and broadband video programming. During his tenure with NBC, Mr. Harris created and managed some of NBC's most memorable online events, including the news-breaking Everest Assault '96 webcast, the 1996 Summer Olympics Web site, and the 1997 ERLive.com cyberevent. Mr. Harris joined NBC in New York in 1995 and served as Senior Producer for all of NBC's online production efforts. Prior to NBC, Mr. Harris was Editor-in-Chief of Mecklermedia's CD-ROM World Magazine. Jonathan Goldsmith, Principal Consultant, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Entertainment & Media Practice, Los Angeles: EXPERT SOURCE ON: Broadband Commerce and Digital Television, Jonathan Goldsmith is a senior consultant in PricewaterhouseCoopers Entertainment & Media Practice. An expert on portal strategies, broadband commerce infrastructure and digital television, he is currently responsible for large projects spanning strategy, analysis, design and implementation of digital television and broadband infrastructure for major entertainment clients. Jonathan joined the firm in 1993 and has sixteen years of experience assisting senior managers in the formulation, evaluation and implementation of business and operations strategy and the application of new technology to operations. He has helped clients like Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios, Ameritech and BellSouth to understand the changing convergence environment and develop actionable strategies that create lasting shareholder value. A frequent speaker on interactive and broadband media issues, he has also lectured at the University of Southern California and UCLA on issues relating to digital television, entertainment technology and electronic cinema. Goldsmith earned a BS in Engineering Physics from Oregon State University and an MBA from the University of Southern CaliforniaJonathan Braun, CEO, Medium4.com: Jonathan Braun, recently nominated as one of the 25 most influential people in streaming media by E-Radio Magazine, founded Medium4.com and is the chief executive officer of the company. Mr. Braun brings a rich history in creating entertainment content on the Internet. From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Braun was the president of Marinex Multimedia Corporation, a CD-rom publishing and Internet content provider company. From 1991 to 1995 Mr. Braun was the President of Marinex, Inc., a public relations firm he founded. Mr. Braun began his career as a journalist working for such publications as Parade Magazine, The Jewish Week, and the New York Daily News and currently serves on the editorial board of Midstream, a monthly journal specializing in Israel and the Middle East. Mr. Braun is also president of the Center for Contemporary Diplomacy, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to educating the public about the enduring importance of diplomacy in international relations. Mr. Braun received his M.S. from the Columbia University School of Journalism and his B.A. in Political Science from the City College of New York, where he graduated phi beta kappa and magna cum laude. |
