| Thursday, May 18 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM Session C: E-Commerce for Media Companies and their Enterprise Partners As every corporation now knows, the ability to leverage its business on the Internet is not only a necessity or an interesting addition to its business model, the strategic approach to transacting E-business holds the potential of separating itself from the competition or finding itself losing market share. E-commerce is not a matter left to the techies, as if the strategic importance of the company Internet was simply a matter of T1 security or the integrity of the firewall. Understanding the strategic value of E-Commerce for all companies, from media companies, retailers and manufacturers alike is a critical part of the business models being developed by all top management. He is responsible for IBM's overall electronic commerce strategy and software products that enable business-to-business and business-to-consumer electronic commerce. Previous to this position, Ed was General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of IBM Global Services Australia, a joint venture between Lend Lease and Telstra that provides a full range of Information Technology Services to businesses and government in Australia. Since joining IBM in 1982, Ed has held positions in Sales and Marketing and as General Business Marketing for British Columbia, and Branch Manager - General Business Marketing for Ontario. Ed was also Director of Marketing for the IBM Personal Computer Company and Vice President and General Manager - Product Marketing, Vice President and General Manager of IBM Global Services Canada. Ed has served on various councils within IBM including the Advisory Council on Women in IBM. He has also been Chairperson for the IBM Canada Employee Charitable Fund for 1996 and 1997 as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Greater Toronto in 1994. In 1981, Ed graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administrative Sciences from Yale University. He is active in sports including ice hockey, golf and fishing. Sandra D. Kresch, Strategy Partner, PriceewaterhouseCoopers, Entertainment & Media Practice, New York: Sandra Kresch has more than 25 years of experience in developing and implementing strategies for growth and change in the broadcast, cable, music, publishing, advertising and interactive industries both domestically and across Europe, Asia and Latin America. Her particular expertise is in the dynamics of market segmentation and competitive structure. As a partner of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Inc., in senior management positions at Time Inc. and in her own consulting practice, Kresch has managed hundreds of assignments related to new product development, corporate and business unit strategy and organization design for an international clientele. She has a solid understanding of the distribution environment outside the U.S., in addition to having experience translating local consumer needs into marketable television services. Her work also has included the development of pricing strategies for new services in international markets. Kresch also has worked with a variety of publishers and entertainment companies in the development of business opportunities intended to leverage their trademarks and packaging skills in consumer products and new media. She has been an advisor to the European Commission on the emerging information society and related businesses, helping them to understand how the U.S. environment can serve as a model for jump starting innovations in the media information industries in Europe. Kresch holds a B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania. She has written and lectured on the market segmentation, competitive structure, strategic planning and the management of innovation. John E. Conway, Managing Director, Media, Entertainment and Communications, Sapient: John Conway is the visionary behind Sapients strategy for the Media, Entertainment and Communications business unit. Conway sets the sales and marketing agenda for the business unit, and is known to clients and colleagues for his ability to bring innovative ideas to fruition. Conway is actively engaged with Sapients clients, helping them create and transform top-line businesses that balance people, technology and capital in innovative ways while seizing the opportunities of the digital business marketplace. In this role, he works across a diverse yet convergent group of industries ranging from telecommunications and broadcasting, to sports and entertainment. Conway brings 18 years of experience in strategic consulting to his role at Sapient. He has spent a majority of his career as a high-tech entrepreneur, and in strategic planning roles with leading management consulting firms, including Booz-Allen & Hamilton, A.T. Kearney, and Gemini. Conway was a founding officer of Gemini Consulting, where he established a business unit that conceived and implemented "businesses the world had never seen before." Conway holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Northeastern University. Ned Hickok is the VP of Marketing, Vcommerce: As Vice President of Marketing, Ned is charged with building and managing the Vstore.com brand and promotional initiatives. A proven, savvy marketing professional, Ned was vice-president of marketing for entertainment powerhouse, Disney, where he helped turnaround Disney Channel to become one of the top rated basic cable networks. He also developed and launched new Disney cable brands. Ned earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Vermont and master's in business administration degree from Northwestern University.
