DVD Recordables - The Market Implications
DVD Recordables are changing the face of the entertainment industry on two fronts, in the living room and on the desktop of the consumer as well as revolutionizing the options open to the professionals in the Entertainment industry to replicate and distribute their product. The price on both fronts has come down, so that for the first time, it is clear that the home user will be purchasing DVD Recordables in mass numbers, while at the same time the professional recordables, for production companies and small business explodes as well. Dr. Ash Pahwa, CEO, DV Studio Tech LLC: Dr. Ash Pahwa is considered one of the pioneers in the development of the CD-ROM and digital video industries since 1986. At DV Studio, Dr. Pahwa has developed CD-Gen and CD-Arch premastering and mastering software for the CD-Recordable market. He developed Apollo4/TV and MPEGCamera, both real-time MPEG-1 encoder boards for the VideoCD market in Asia. And he developed Apollo Expert MPEG-2 encoder for the DVD and SuperVCD market. Dr. Pahwa has held technical positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Oracle, Xerox and General Electric. He is the author of the book, CD-Recordable Bible (Pemberton Press, 1994) and he wrote a column entitled "The CD-R Writer" in the CD-ROM Professional magazine. Dr. Pahwa has taught at UCLA and Oxford Universities. Dr. Pahwa has made presentations at numerous conferences including COMDEX, CD-ROM Expo, Microsoft CD-ROM, AIIM, FCC, Video Expo, Multimedia Expo, FOSE and ONLINE/CD-ROM. He has conducted workshops and seminars, written numerous papers for conferences and journals, and is listed in Who's Who in the Frontiers of Science and Technology.
