Broadband promotions are the premiere of truly convergent entertainment on the Internet. Broadband promotions are the synthesis of online advertising, online promotions, and television, with targeting capabilities that produce more effective results than traditional online advertising. In this session, we investigate the most effective promotion solutions to use on a broadband platform, and how broadband promotions differ from traditional online promotions. Smelzer has an extensive background in entertainment marketing, most recently serving as managing director of U.S. sales at Variety magazine. Prior to joining Variety, Smelzer was publisher of Buzz magazine, overseeing the magazines advertising, marketing, circulation and production departments. Smelzers tenure with Buzz offered him an insiders understanding of the Hollywood community and helped him establish ongoing working relationships with the studios regarding advertising measures, film screenings, premieres and other value-added initiatives. Smelzer received his bachelors degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and also earned a masters in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and entertainment management, from the Andersen School of Management at UCLA.Melinda Moore, founder & President, THEY: For nearly ten years, Melinda Moore has traversed the media convergence industry bringing her charisma and expertise to a variety of established and start-up companies including STV, Intertainer and DEN. An expert in launching, marketing and selling interactive products and services, Ms. Moore demonstrates a strong understanding of marketing strategy, content development, strategic-partnership building and advertising. Additionally, Ms. Moore has extensive experience in new media, including the Internet, interactive television, kiosks, streaming media and CD-ROMs. Most recently, Ms. Moore bravely embarked on her own entrepreneurial endeavor co-founding THEY, a leading multi-platform digital media solutions firm with clients that include Excite@Home, Universal TV, PacketVideo and the Game Show Network. In her role, Ms. Moore is largely responsible for overseeing new business development, strategic alliances and marketing. Prior to co-founding THEY, Ms. Moore served as the vice president of business development for Digital Entertainment Network (DEN), the privately-held interactive online network that targets Generation Y by delivering short-form, original streaming video content on a variety of racy subjects. During her tenure, Ms. Moore focused on building the companys brand through distribution and marketing deals. Previously, Ms. Moore served as the vice president of marketing for Intertainer, an interactive television service that offers a wide range of entertainment on demand through high-speed cable and DSL connections. At Intertainer, she oversaw all marketing efforts including publicity, advertising, branding, promotions and trade shows. In this capacity, she launched public relations programs with BSMG Worldwide and an advertising campaign with Chiat Day, both of which resulted in the companys widespread recognition among content providers, distribution partners and trade media. Prior to joining Intertainer, Ms. Moore was the director of marketing for STV Communications, a premier streaming media company that was recently acquired for $67 million by Sonic Foundry. She began her career in the new media industry in 1993 producing top selling educational CD-ROMs for Davidson & Associates (now the Cendant Corporation), a leading software publisher. She also served as a business development consultant at educational software distributor Forest Technologies. Ms. Moore earned her bachelors of arts degree in psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles and has enrolled in a number of graduate level multimedia and new entertainment technology classes at the prestigious institution. She is affiliated with several organizations, including the Venice Interactive Community (VIC), Women in Technology (WINT), International Interactive Communications Society (IICS), and LawNMoweR. Laurence Norjeanm, co-founder, FMiTV: Co-founder, chief executive officer, chairman and director of FMiTV Networks, Inc., Laurence W. Norjean is a nationally recognized broadcasting, Internet and marketing professional with over 25 years experience in radio, TV, film, creative and advertising. Previously, Norjean was co-founder and former president/COO of BuySellBid.com, one of the worlds largest online classifieds companies, where he established himself as a pioneer in media convergence, merging traditional media partnerships including NBC and Clear Channel with new media. Norjean transitioned to BuySellBid.com after serving as president and chief executive officer of StratiComm America, a marketing and communications company. His clients included major companies in the advertising and media industries, including the CBS and ABC Radio Networks, Westwood One and Orion Pictures. Norjean joined StratiComm from a post as senior vice president, national sales & marketing, for the Radio Advertising Bureau, the national trade association for the radio industry. Previously, as senior vice president of national sales at VNI, he inaugurated a successful music video network throughout the U.S. including the technical development of the Box, cables first online music video request line. At Metromedia Radio, Norjean was responsible for national and corporate marketing and local advertising, public relations and promotion for more than 60 owned & operated major market radio stations. He previously held positions at Metromedia TV and Metromedia News. While a student at New York University, Norjean started his media career in marketing management at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer before going on to be New York syndication manager at Metromedia Productions Corporation (David L. Wolper Productions.) Norjean is a past legislative chairman of the Advertising Club Of New York (AAF), the Starpower Committee of the Promotion Marketing Association of America and a noted international public speaker, author of The Essential Radio Spot and columnist. Michael Tesoro, Partner, Promotions.com (www.promotions.com), is responsible for a sizable percentage of the Business Development objectives for the company. He is involved in evaluating, negotiating, and closing strategic alliances. Recently, he was instrumental in the launch of Promotions.com's newest Web site Chakkalina.com, the Japanese equivalent of the award-winning promotion portal and media property Webstakes.com . Currently, Michael is working on the newly formed "Deal Team" dedicated to forging strategic alliances for Promotions.com. Prior to joining the company, Michael served as Director of Strategic Projects for Outpost.com (www.outpost.com). Kathryn Campbell, Associate Partner, Brand Strategy: Kathryn Campbell is Associate Partner of Brand Strategy & Development for marchFIRST's Southwest Region. Since joining marchFIRST, she has led the global re-branding and redesign effort on behalf of Toshiba Corporation, helped to develop and launch shine!, a non-profit portal chosen as a Yahoo! pick of the day, and has worked closely with Foundation Health Systems in developing a major new Internet healthcare offering. Kathryn has 16 years of experience in designing and managing research projects which provide unique and compelling user insights into her clients' brand and product development. Kathryn joins us from Ogilvy & Mather, where she was a Partner and Director of Research and Planning on a variety of regional, national and international accounts, including Tickets.com, PacifiCare, GTE, and Mail Boxes Etc. While at Ogilvy Los Angeles, Kathryn won the coveted Charlotte Beers award for Brand Stewardship. Kathryn's expertise spans both the consumer and business-to-business segments. Kathryn has also spoken at the American Graduate School of International Management's (Thunderbird) global executive education program on the subject of ebranding and has conducted seminars on using customer-specific data to improve retention. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce and an M.B.A. from U.Va.'s Darden School." Robert J. Holtz, the founder of Zeros & Ones, Inc., is the Chairman of the Board of Directo rs and President of the Company. From 1991 to 1994, Mr. Holtz was the Director of Special Projects for the television post-production facility, Action Video, Inc. During his tenure, Holtz developed several production techniques and technologies currently used by the entertainment industry to digitize and share motion picture images in collaborative projects. In the early 1990s, Holtz participated in Microsofts Win32 Group which guided the development of the Win32 kernel the core of the Microsoft Windows operating system shared by Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. Mr. Holtzs accomplishments also include the creation of the first completely-automated credit card clearance and merchant protection service center for an independent processor, as well as the creation of the first fully-automated credit card commerce system for the nationwide sale of movie theater admission tickets. Mr. Holtz is an active member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Society of Television Engineers, the Association of Computing Machinery, and a charter member of the International Multimedia Association. |
