Kaplan, President and CEO, Omneon Video Networks Ashok Dhawan, President, Next Generation Access, Lucent Technologies Greg Onyszchuk, Vice President New Media Services, Vyvx, Williams Communications Brad O'Neill, Director of Corporate Development, StorageNetworks Eric Wolford, Vice President of Product Marketing and Business Development, FastForward Networks Dr. Michael Baron, President/CEO Teranex Jon Brown, Vice President, Engineering, Activate, Moderator Greg Onyszchuk, Vice President New Media Services, Vyvx, Williams Communications: Born and raised in Montreal, Greg began his career in 1985 at Bell Canada in the Technology Development group, developing and standardizing tools, test sets and procedures for fiber optic cable installation and maintenance. Following his return to University in 1987, Greg joined the Broadcast Services team at Bell where he designed and costed special assemblies for Teleglobe and the CBC. He moved to Ottawa in 1989 to a planning and standards role at Telecom Canada, and then led the Broadcast Services Technology and Service Development team at Stentor. During that time, the team standardized the Nortel DV-45 codec, developed and launched the VideoRoute occasional television service, and formed an alliance with Vyvx Inc. to provide Canada-US occasional and dedicated television transmission services. Greg moved to a marketing and business planning role in Data and Integrated Services at Stentor in 1993, and then joined Nortel in early 1995, where he performed business development and strategic marketing for the Nortel Magellan ATM switch product line. Greg joined Williams Vyvx Services and relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma in late 1996. At Vyvx, he is Vice President of New Media Services, a newly formed business development unit dedicated to solutions for the business-to-business broadband media marketplace. Formerly Executive Director of Marketing and Engineering for Vyvx Fiber Services, he was responsible for all product management, new service development, business planning, marketing, applications engineering, installation and quality control. Greg is married, enjoys the outdoors, downhill skiing, a little golf, a little watersports, and does not miss the Canadian winters at all. Eric Wolford, Vice President of Product Marketing and Business Development, FastForward Networks: Prior to joining FastForward Networks, Eric was the director of Product Management for AT&T's IP Network Services, where he grew business by nearly tenfold over three years. Eric's team developed and launched more than 15 new services, including VPN, broadband, and global access services. As the marketing director for electronic commerce solutions, he created a Web marketing solution package that AT&T featured in a national television advertising campaign. As a product manager for data networking services, Eric helped to lead AT&T's turnaround from fifth place to first place in Frame Relay and ATM services. As an account executive, he was ranked first or second in his region and consistently won top sales awards. Eric earned a BS degree in biology at Pepperdine University (1988) and an MBA in marketing and finance from UCLA's Anderson School of Management and NYU's Stern School of Business (1995). In 1998, he was selected by AT&T to attend a graduate program in management at the London Business School. Lawrence Kaplan is the President and CEO of Omneon Video Networks, the comp any providing networking and storage infrastructure for new media. Omneon systems are used by content providers and distributors in the converging industries of television and the Internet. Under Mr. Kaplan's leadership, and that of his management partners, Omneon has created the VIDEO AREA NETWORKä, an integrated networking and storage platform that enables customers to route, store, and share digital audio, video, and any type of related data throughout and among facilities. With substantial experience in television and computer networking, Mr. Kaplan's tenure in the business includes strong relationships with computer network, satellite and television companies worldwide that deploy sophisticated digital media networks. Before creating Omneon Video Networks, Mr. Kaplan was most recently senior vice president at Sony Electronics with overall responsibility for Sony broadcast, production and data products and systems. His organization also included the Sony systems integration and software development operations that designed and built several major television facilities including DIRECTV and AskyB (Primestar). Prior to joining Sony in 1995, Mr. Kaplan had overall responsibility for both the computer graphic and television operations at Tektronix-including the color printer division and The Grass Valley Group. These businesses generated more than $1 billion dollars in revenue. Mr. Kaplan has an MBA from Rutgers University and a BSEE from the University of Wisconsin.Brad O'Neill, Director of Corporate Development, StorageNetworks: Brad joined the early management team of StorageNetworks in 1999 and currently leads Corporate Development, overseeing strategic investments, M&A activities, and strategic industry analysis for StorageNetworks. Previously, Brad served as Director of New Service Development, managing the development and launch of StorageNetworks STORwidth family of distributed storage services for the internet. Brad played an early role in building the StorageNetworks Business Development team, structuring alliances with service providers throughout the internet infrastructure space. Prior to joining StorageNetworks, Brad's work experience included business development and strategic consulting for several companies in the enterprise software, online media and data storage industries. Brad attended the Olin Graduate School of Management, Babson College. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Kalamazoo College and was a Stanford University graduate fellow. Jon Brown, Vice President, Engineering Activate: As VP of Engineering, Jon Browns responsibilities at Activate include guiding the development of the network and system architecture as well as evaluating future technologies that may be applicable to Activate. Jon has over 14 years of experience in software development, most recently as vice president of product development for Atrieva Corporation. From 1991-95, Jon was the senior program manager at Evergreen Software Tools, developers of computer-aided software engineering tools. Prior to Evergreen, he was the product development manager at Phoenix Technologies, developers of software fundamental to the design and use of personal computers. Jon has also held software development management positions with Sunstrand Data Control, HDC, and several start-up software companies. He holds degrees from Georgetown and the University of Washington. Dr. Michael Baron, President/CEO Teranex: Dr. Michael Baron has extensive experience in the professional video production, presentation and cable industries. Most recently, Baron served as Senior Vice President of the Business Systems group at Sony Corporation. In his role at Sony, Baron spearheaded Sony's marketing activities addressing broad and diverse markets including distance learning, government, industrial video,presentation and multi-media production. Included in his 15 years of experience at Sony, was the launch of new business opportunities in the Medical, Security, and Electronic Imaging Fields. He was also responsible for the development of the award-winning Broadcast and Professional Group, featured as the cover of the September 1998, Beyond Computing. |
