| Wednesday, October 3 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM Track B: Wireless from Europe: Finland, Sweden and the EU lead the Way As everybody knows, wireless services in Europe far outstrip those in this country. On every front, from the number of users to hardware and software innovation, the Europeans are a generation ahead. In this session, we welcome a group of experts from Europe. Sweden and Finland in particular have lead the way, and we are pleased that representatives of those countries were available to join us. They represent content, portal and technology companies and we look to their experience as we begin to make our wireless content decisions. Ville Tolvanen, CEO, Intervisio Rami Korhonen, co-founder and Partner, Small Planet Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO, Orchimedia Laurine Garaude, Director, Milia, Reed Midem Organization Anttoni Vesterinen, CEO, oplayo Charles Tobermann, President, La Claie Productions, Moderator Laurine Garaude, Director, Milia, Reed Midem Organization: Born in the US, Laurin e Garaude graduated from Yale University with a BA in music. Laurine started out her career in the music industry and went on to become a radio producer before moving into publishing at St. Martin's Press Inc. in New York City. Laurine then moved to Paris, France, where she worked as a literary agent before joining the Nathan Publishing Group in 1988 as acquisitions and co-productions editor. In 1993, realizing the potential for the development of interactive media content, and the impact it would have on the future of all industries, Laurine Garaude joined Reed Midem Organisation, to prepare and implement the launch of Milia, the first global interactive content market. Launched in 1994, Milia is the World's Interactive Content Marketplace. Held annually in Cannes, France, it is the premier international marketplace for negotiating licenses, co-productions, distribution agreements, scouting new talent and for forging strategic alliances and joint ventures.Rami Korhonen is one of the founders and a partner in Small Planet Ltd. He started his career in the company as Project Manager in 1997 and acted as the Managing Director from 1998 to August 1999. At present, Mr Korhonen is VP Product and Marketing. His sphere of responsibilities includes offering innovative lifestyle oriented services, developed for mobile phone, to B-2-B customers, who create business in the lifestyle oriented mobile media markets. Rami Korhonen graduated from the faculty of Political Sciences at University of Turku in 1998. He has also studied at Leeds Metropolitan University in England during the spring of 1996. The spring of 1995 he studied as an exchange student in Göteborg, Sweden. Mr Korhonen has also been active in research. Amongst others he participated in Ethnicity and Conflict seminar in Göteborg, Sweden in 1997, where he gave a speech on his study "Ethnicity, Conflict & Consumption", which was also published. He has also carried out a study for CIMO on "Allocating resources of student mobility in Finnish universities". Mr Korhonen's mother tongue is Finnish and he speaks good Swedish and English. Mr Korhonen served his military service in Pori Brigade, Säkylä. His military rank is Corporal (in the reserve). During his spare-time, Rami Korhonen likes traveling, skateboarding and snowboarding. He is also playing in two active indie-rock groups Belmondo and Treeball and has organized music related events, like Provinssi Jr. 2000. Charles Tobermann, President, La Claie Productions: Charles Tobermann has over 15 years experience as a musician and record producer, software engineer, technical writer, and journalist. He holds degrees in music from the University of California and the University of Virginia and has done advanced studies in computer science at Harvard University. He has worked as a software engineer in the areas of digital media, telecommunications, and data security, including 6 years at Apple Computers Paris R&D center. He currently specializes in the areas of digital media over networks (especially wireless), smart cards, and data security (especially digital media asset protection). He has written extensively about technology for publications including the International Herald Tribune.Anttoni Vesterinen, CEO, oplayo: Anttoni Vesterinen joined oplayo in June 2000, with the goal to lead the innovative high-tech company with growth potential to the international market. His background is in international sales and operations management in the technology sector. Prior to joining oplayo, Anttoni Vesterinen worked for Cognex Inc. where he was sales director, SISD, Europe and South East Asia. Before Cognex, Mr. Vesterinen worked eight years for Measurex Oy in Finland, and then two more years with Honeywell-Measurex, Inc. in Singapore, where he advanced to Vice President, Asia Pacific Field Operations. Born in Finland, Anttoni Vesterinen has lived and worked in several countries. He holds a masters degree in engineering and eMBA from the Helsinki University of Technology. He is married with two children. |
