The PC Connected Home - Extending to Portables, ITV, and other Appliances
At its heart, the PC connected home is a powerhouse network delivering everything from voice, data and video services to every member of the household. Everything runs off the mainframe. Whether it’s a wirelessly connected home comprised of PDAs, laptops, desktops PCs, a Set-Top connection, IM devices, E-book reader, telephony system, a telewebbing device or an as yet to be determined tablet, the home is the domain of the PC. In this session, we will begin to explore what the future of the PC connected home will look like.

Keith Laepple, Group Manager, Evangelism, Microsoft eHome Division: Mr. Laepple has responsibility for developing technical strategies for home networking and consumer platforms. He works to develop partnerships and relationships within the industry, and is an industry spokesperson on home networking. Before assuming this role at Microsoft, he was technical evangelist for the company’s Windows embedded platforms and Windows consumer hardware platforms. He was a program manager in graphics and communications for Windows 95, and a program manager in graphics and power management for Windows 3.1. Mr. Laepple holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. He is an experienced speaker at industry events, most recently at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference, and at the Embedded Microprocessor Forum.

Bob Bennett, co-founder & Vice President Corporate Development, Sharewave: Before founding ShareWave, Bennett was the marketing director for Intel Corporation's line of branded processor products. Bennett was responsible for all aspects of marketing associated with these products, including strategic planning, product management, consumer promotions, and channel programs. Prior to joining Intel in 1991, he worked as a product manager with Hewlett-Packard's Information Networks Division and as a consultant with Andersen Consulting. Bennett earned a bachelor's degree in economics with honors from Stanford University and a master's degree in management with distinction from Northwestern's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.




Bill Loesch, vice president of marketing and technology for Pinnacle Systems' Personal Web Video Division, joined Pinnacle Systems in 1994 as vice president and general manager of this division. Loesch has brought his entrepreneurial spirit to Pinnacle Systems and has driven the company's efforts to develop a name for itself in the consumer market. Before leading the Consumer Products division of the company, Loesch served as vice president of new business development. Prior to joining Pinnacle Systems he worked as an independent business consultant. From 1990 through 1992, Loesch co-founded and served as president of SHOgraphics Inc., a 3D graphics systems company where he also acted as its executive vice president and chief technical officer. Additionally, Loesch co-founded and served as chief executive officer and president of IKOS Systems, Inc., a computer aided engineering company.

Chris Schairbaum, New Business Development Manager Internet Audio, Texas Instruments: Chris is the New Business Development Manager for the Internet Audio (IA) business at Texas Instruments. In the five years he has been with the company, Chris has managed strategic marketing initiatives for several of TI's custom and mass-market focused product lines. Chris, a music enthusiast, is ideally suited for TI's Internet Audio Division, where he currently oversees customer relations, marketing initiatives and business development for the US and Europe. Chris graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in electrical engineering.








Paul R. Katz is a shareholder with the Los Angeles office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP a full-service international law firm. Katz focuses his practice on Internet, e-commerce, convergent media, intellectual property and information technology matters. He provides services to emerging companies as well as to larger organizations procuring technology. Katz is extremely knowledgeable in the areas of Computer Law, Electronic Commerce, Internet Law, Marketing and Distribution, Outsourcing, Strategic Counseling for early stage companies, Technology Development and Protection of Proprietary Property. He has represented companies involved in Internet-related businesses, including those providing content, infrastructure, site development and electronic commerce. He also has extensive experience representing various merchants, independent sales organizations and credit and debit card processors in a wide range of electronic commerce-related transactions. Katz is a member of the American Bar Association, Section of Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law; the California State Bar, Intellectual Property Section; the Computer Law Association; Cal Tech/MIT Enterprise Forum; Los Angeles New Media Roundtable; and the Virtual International Community. A graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law, Katz is a recognized author and speaker on topics including the protection of databases, electronic documents and digital signaturing.

Roxanne Gryder, Business Development Manager, Extended TV Capability, Intel Architecture Labs, Intel Corporation: Roxanne Gryder directs business development activities within the Extended TV Capability, a key enabling capability within the Connected Consumers initiative in Intel’s Architecture Labs. The Extended TV capability is tasked with benefiting Intel’s core architecture’s by capitalizing on the conversion of entertainment formats from analog to digital. Prior to her current position, Ms. Gryder worked in Intel's Content Group, where she was responsible for evangelizing enhanced digital broadcast and other Intel technologies to the entertainment industry. Before Intel, Ms. Gryder worked for eight years in the post production industry in Chicago, concentrating primarily on special effects and graphics for television commercials. Ms. Gryder received a Bachelor of Science degree in film and television from Northwestern University and an MBA from Cornell University. Ms. Gryder is past president of Chicago's Women in Film association and a member of the Interactive Peer Group of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
