Peer to Peer as an Entertainment Business Strategy - Developing Business Models - Technology & Entertainment Companies Define a New Sector, Part II
Peer-to-Peer is the perfect environment for content distribution. According to a JP Morgan report, the purchasing of various types of digital content (i.e. music, movies, publishing) will exceed $275 Billion by the year 2003. How can content companies best leverage a peer-to-peer model? It’s so unique, that it’s spawned words like viral marketing and turned community building in an entertainment industry nightmare. But now that people have had a taste of free content via Napster, Aimster and other P2P websites, are there any methods that content producers can employ in order to help facilitate the distribution of their content online? What are different encryption technologies available to protect the content? Will the market’s demand for content have a role in evolving current copyright law?
