Education as an Internet/Broadband Content Form - From Subscription to VOD Services
In this session we will explore how the process of education can be extended via the Internet. There are thousands of traditional educational institutions already pursuing distance learning and incorporating Internet-enhanced coursework into their curricula. Nevertheless, the concept of Internet-enabled or enhanced education continues to evolve rapidly due to broadband deployment and new technologies. In this session, we will take a look at current Internet-based educational projects such as the recently announced MIT program, which some believe will set the standard for university programs on the Net. Is there a role for joint ventures and other partnerships with the entertainment and information industries in this equation? What value will the incorporation of on-demand video and audio elements add to distance learning? Education may be a key example of subscription services finding a receptive audience.
