Security is issue one and the massive volume of data traffic to manage only exacerbates the problem. There are many fascinating solutions now in practice attacking the global problem of digital commerce, and with the proliferation of new Internet devices, from the PC to handhelds, the rules and standards which define this game must become absolutely clear. Norm Ritchie, Vice-President, Technology & Business Development, NetActive Scott Burnett, Marketing Executive, Content Distribution, IBM Global Media & Entertainment Industry Josette Bonte, Senior VP, Business Development, Media Station Dr. George Friedman, founder & Chief Technology Officer, Infraworks Sanjay Parekh, co-founder, Executive VP, and Chief Strategy Officer, Digital Envoy Chris Kitze, CEO, Yaga Michael Miron, Co-chairman Board of Directors & CEO, ContentGuard John North, Director, Origin Data, Inc., Moderator Chris Kitze, CEO, Yaga: A proven entrepreneur with a successful trail of startups, Chris Kitze co-founded Yaga, Inc. in September 2000. As CEO and chairman of the board, Kitze provides a strategic vision as well as extensive technology and electronic media expertise, from startups to multibillion-dollar market cap companies. Prior to Yaga, Inc., he was the CEO of NBC Internet (NASDAQ:NBCI), a company created in December 1999 as a result of the XOOM.com and Snap.com merger. Kitze also co-founded XOOM.com in September 1996, took it public in December 1998, and served as chairman of the board and secretary since its inception. With his Internet and marketing savvy, Kitze has started and sold three interactive companies. Prior to XOOM.com, Mr. Kitze co-founded Point Communications Corporation, a Web directory company that was acquired by Lycos in October 1995. Mr. Kitze remained and managed the Point division, as well as served as overall vice president of marketing for Lycos, where he helped take the company public with a $225 million valuation. Prior to founding Point, Kitze co-founded Aris Entertainment, which published interactive CD-ROM titles, including the award-winning MPC Wizard, MediaClips and Video Cube product lines. Aris Entertainment sold more than 2 million CD-ROM units in less than three years and was purchased by SoftKey International (now The Learning Company), a publicly-traded, $300 million company, in June 1994. Kitze is a recent recipient of Israels prestigious Albert Einstein Technology Award that recognizes path-breaking leaders who have pushed the envelope of technology in the service of mankind through their entrepreneurship and risk taking, enabling others to benefit from their cutting-edge technologies. Presently, Kitze serves on the boards of eVineyard and ShopEaze. Mr. Kitze holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado.Michael Miron is co-chairman of the Board of Directors and chief executive officer (CEO) of ContentGuard, Inc. Miron is responsible for the overall business strategy and execution of ContentGuards mission to accelerate Internet content delivery across all content and media types, on a worldwide basis. Miron was previously president of the Internet Business Group at Xerox Corporation, where he was responsible for the development of new Internet-related transaction and service businesses. Miron also held the position of senior vice president of Corporate Business Strategy and Development at Xerox, where he was responsible for long-term corporate strategy, corporate initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and Internet strategy and infrastructure. He also was an officer of the corporation. Miron joined Xerox in 1998 from AirTouch Communications in San Francisco, where he was vice president of Corporate Strategy and Development. Prior to this, he worked in strategy and analysis at Salomon Brothers Inc. in New York from 1990-96. He also worked at McKinsey & Company in New York from 1986-90, and at International Business Machines in Rye Brook, N.Y., from 1981-86. Miron received a Bachelors degree from Cornell College of Engineering in 1977 and a Masters degree in Management from Northwestern University in 1981.Josette Bonte is Senior Vice President, Business Development, for Media Station where she is responsible for the development of new business relationships. Bonte most recently was a Principal of New Media Strategies, a boutique consulting firm specializing in advising corporate clients on interactive television and broadband Internet content deployments. At New Media Strategies, she most recently worked with the PanAmSat Net/36 team, where she concentrated on broadband content strategy and customer acquisition. Prior to rendering services for PanAmSat, she headed the Entertainment and New Media Practices of the San Francisco-based telecommunications consulting firm Ryan, Hankin, Kent, Inc., a position she held from 1996 to 1999. Bonte is also an interactive television pioneer. In 1994, she joined US West as Head of Strategic Marketing, Entertainment and Interactive Services and participated in the companys early interactive multimedia trials. She is the author of the best seller book "La Television a la carte aux Etats-Unis," published in Paris in 1995. Prior to her new media career, Bonte spent over 15 years in the film and television industry where she held numerous executive positions. She received her M.F.A from the UCLA School of Film and Television in 1981, and her Ph.D. in Telecommunications and New Media from the Sorbonne in 1996.Scott Burnett, Marketing Executive, Content Distribution, IBM's Global Medi a & Entertainment Industry: As marketing executive for content distribution in IBM's Global Media & Entertainment Industry, Scott Burnett is responsible for setting global strategy and establishing media distribution solutions for IBM. Prior to joining IBM, Mr. Burnett served as vice president of marketing for Liquid Audio, guiding Liquid Audio's global marketing strategy and positioning the Liquid Audio brand as a major player in digital music distribution. Prior to Liquid Audio, Burnett served as vice president of corporate brands at Warner Bros. Studios, organizing global branding efforts across company divisions. He also served as vice president of Warner Bros. International Dubbing Production Group. Previously, Burnett served as director of character voices at Disney Studios, managing the group's expansion and international development. Among Burnett's 18 years of marketing and production management experience in the entertainment industry, he has served as senior vice president of Highlight Communications, developing entertainment shopping kiosks and has also filled marketing roles at Allied Digital, VCA Teletronics and 3M Company. Burnett received his MBA from the University of San Francisco in 1985 and his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas University in Minnesota in 1981. Burnett has also taught marketing at the University of San Francisco.Sanjay Parekh is co-founder, Executive VP, and Chief Strategy Officer of Digital Envoy. Sanjay was the original inventor of the NetAcuity(TM) technology on which Digital Envoy was founded. Sanjay has also been instrumental in the development of Digital Envoy's RealPath(TM) technology which powers the Emissary(TM) product. Prior to founding Digital Envoy, Sanjay was a founding employee of Arris Interactive, a driving force in cable telephony and cable modem technologies and implementations worldwide. Sanjay has almost 20 years of experience with computers and software development and knows over ten programming languages. Sanjay has an electrical engineering degree, specializing in computer engineering, from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Norm Ritchie, Vice-President, Technology & Business Development, NetActive: Mr. Ritchie brings to the role a ready grasp of where technology is going and how to profit from it. As one of the first honors graduates of Queens University's Computing Science and Math program, Mr. Ritchie's 20-year career has been spent in the forefront of digital developments. Mr. Ritchie ran his own business, CASL Systems, until he moved to Nortel to help develop the world's first fully-digital telephone switch. Mr. Ritchie was one of the early members of the NetActive team. Dr. George Friedman, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Infraworks: Dr. George Fr iedman is the founder and chief technology officer of Infraworks, a private, Austin, Texas-based company that provides advanced digital property protection technology. Infraworks allows content owners to conduct business in today's digital environment with the confidence that they have complete control over their creative and intellectual property. Dr. Friedman has more than 25 years of experience in programming, database construction, computer project management, international research, and intelligence methodologies and analysis. He was involved in the development of BITNET, an early version of the Internet, and was a strong advocate for the use of this technology in the academic community. Dr. Friedman is a well-known author of books and articles on business intelligence, security issues and international affairs, including "Why We Must Protect Intellectual Property on the Web" (c|net news.com) and "The Intelligence Edge: How To Profit in the Information Age" (Crown Publishing). Dr. Friedman has lectured widely on defense and national security issues and has appeared on numerous television and radio shows as an expert in international affairs. His work in security and intelligence led to the formation of Infraworks whose primary focus is on developing digital property protection software.John North, Director, Origin Data, Inc.: John North is a veteran content producer and sy stem architect with extensive experience in the design, manufacture and delivery of complex media products and services. His current work with Origin Data involves the development of Integrated Asset Management and Business System Instrumentation products for television and internet control centers. John brings more than thirty years of credits from live stage and studio performance, network broadcasting, print and electronic publishing, and all manner of interactivity-- from broadband to narrow, from desktops to global processing and distribution centers. An accomplished team builder, he recently led an international team in prototyping a true end-to-end, culturally-discreet, business, production and network system for a 15-country, 10-million subscriber European cable television network. Career distinctions include over one thousand production design and technical direction credits, many early webcasts, a product management position for an enterprise-class media asset management application, a business and technology columnist for the teleproduction trades, the mid-80s specification of a closed-loop cable-to-retail ITV system, two patents for infrastructure and desktop-level advanced media systems, and the 1993-4 delivery of a 20-year broadband utilization plan to the Managing Directors of Fujitsu, NTT, and NTT Data in Tokyo that defined the limits of industry growth on the availability of extensible middleware, bandwidth on-demand Quality of Service allocation, and the deployment of real-time watermark encoders and auditable microtransaction gateways. |
