| Monday, October 1 12:45 PM - 2:00 PM Session II: Video on Demand - Monetizing Content through Cable, Internet and Satellite Distribution, Part I In this session, we will take a look at the Video on Demand marketplace primarily as it is being transformed by the cable and satellite industries. The era of three or films a night be offered to the consume is being retired system by system and in its place, the new digital set-tops are offering up a host of new packages - from subscription style services which make the entire months package of thirty or so films available on demand to whole new libraries available on an on-demand basis. In this session we will take a look at the packages and the technology behind them that makes the offerings possible. The transition to an updated VOD word is now underway. Enrico Pesatori, President & CEO, BlueArc Dom Stasi, Chief Technology Officer, TVN Entertainment Richard Doherty, CEO, The Envisioneering Group, Moderator Enrico Pesatori is the president and CEO of BlueArc, the only company providing network storage solutions at optical bandwidth. Before joining BlueArc, Mr. Pesatori was senior vice president and group general manager of Compaq's Enterprise Solutions and Services Group. He was responsible for the global delivery of NonStop eBusiness solutions, including industry standard and business critical servers, storage systems, professional services and customer services. Mr. Pesatori was also president of Tandem Computers, Inc. and joined Compaq when it acquired Tandem Computers in August 1997. Prior to joining Tandem, Mr. Pesatori was vice president and general manager of Digital Equipment Corporation's Computer Systems Division. Before joining Digital, Mr. Pesatori was president and CEO of Zenith Data Systems. He also spent many years with Italian computer and electronics firm, Ing. C. Olivetti & C., S.p.A. During that time he was president and CEO of Olivetti North America and head of the Olivetti Systems Group. A native of Turin, Italy, Mr. Pesatori earned a Masters degree in electronic engineering from Polytechnic Institute in Turin. Greg DePrez is vice president, subscription video-on-demand (S-VOD), at Starz Encore Group LLC (Starz Encore). DePrez joined the company to implement its new S-VOD service offering, which allows consumers to make impulse selections of Starz Encore movies with full VCR viewing functionality for a simple, flat monthly fee. This model is in contrast to the more traditional pay-per-view VOD requirement of ordering movies a la carte. DePrez is responsible for taking advantage of the new transactional viewing opportunities to add value to Starz Encores core premium television business. A 20-year cable and new media veteran, DePrez came to Starz Encore from City Media LLC, which he founded to provide video server vendors and cable operators with programming and marketing support for video-on-demand rollouts. City Media also crafted market-specific trial and launch strategies for its clients. Prior to that, DePrez spent eight years as an executive with TCI Communications and United Artists Cable Television managing their respective pay-per-view operations and associated business development activities. He has headed western region sales and marketing for the Request Television PPV networks and served in similar roles for Group W Satellite and Daniels Cablevision. DePrez has developed an industry-wide reputation as a knowledgeable and successful professional in the area of transactional services development and deployment. His reputation, coupled with his experience and industry relationships, position him as an ideal candidate for keynote addresses and panel discussions on interactive programming services Dom Stasi, Chief Technology Officer, TVN: An industry veteran, Dom Stasi's background in the production, distribution, and exhibition of state-of-the-art television has kept him at the cutting edge of this rapidly advancing industry. The deployment of interactive applications such as platform-independent Video-On-Demand, and its ensemble of capabilities and enabling technologies designed to meet the unique technical and business requirements of CATV, have characterized his tenure with the TVN. As such, Dom has been a frequent and invited speaker at the national conventions of NCTA, CTAM, SCTE, Women In Cable, and NAB. He has served on the NCTA Engineering Committee and its subcommittees since 1979, and published numerous technical papers. Dom came to TVN from TCI's National Digital Television Center (NDTC). As Senior Vice President for Network Business Development, he worked closely there with MSOs and program providers in the development of the digital distribution architectures that have come to characterize this industry. Prior to joining TCI, Dom was Director of Engineering for HBO, and Vice President/General Manager of Engineering and Network Operations for MTV Networks.Greg Reitman, Field Marketing, Entertainment & Digital Media, LSI Logic Storage Syst ems: Greg Reitman completed Certificate of Higher Education at UCLA in Film, Television, Marketing & Distribution. Bachelor of Arts, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, with International Studies at Florence University, Hokkaido University, and Tel Aviv University. For the past ten years, Greg has worked in the Publishing, Technology, Entertainment & Media Industries. Currently, Greg works in the Product Marketing area providing marketing and technical expertise in the Entertainment and Media markets for LSI Logic Storage Systems. Prior to LSI Logic Storage Systems, Greg served as a Regional Sales and Marketing Director for the META Group, an industry leading Information Technology consulting firm servicing the Fortune 500 where he was responsible for developing and managing operations, marketing, and sales related activities in Australia, New Zealand. He was later deployed to the Los Angeles region to cover the District as a Regional Sales Director. Greg worked in the publishing segment for Simon & Schuster International setting up, marketing, and launching SSI first multimedia application for worldwide distribution. He has also worked for one of the worlds most prestigious presses, Oxford University Press in New York.Del Kunert, Vice President Marketing, Concurrent Computer Corp.: As Vice President o f Marketing, Del Kunert is responsible for strategic marketing of the Video-On-Demand (VOD) product line for the XSTREME Division of Concurrent Computer Corporation. Del is a pioneer in Concurrents VOD business and has worked on advancing the VOD business for the past five years. Del has been instrumental in the Companys success most recently by acting as Program Manager for Concurrents commercial deployment of VOD at Time Warner Cable's Hawaii-based Oceanic Cable and Time Warner Cable's Tampa Bay Division. With over twenty years of experience with Concurrent Computer Corporation, Del has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility in networking and systems development, custom engineering, product management, product marketing, and business development. Among his accomplishments were the definition and successful market introduction of the MAXION multiprocessor system, and early industry implementation of cache-coherent non-uniform memory access (CC-NUMA) symmetric multiprocessing system architecture, and MAXION/OS a standards-compliant, real-time UNIX-based symmetric multiprocessing operating system. He started his professional career with B Corporation as a design engineer for data communications terminal subsystems. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees from Monmouth University. He has been elected to both the Eta Kappa Nu electrical and Sigma Pi Sigma physics honor societies.Neil Goldberg, Vice President Entertainment, DIVA: Neil is responsible for the entertainment aspects of DIVAs business including content programming, acquisitions and overall licensing deals with major studios, independents, networks, cable networks, and alternative content providers. Additionally, Neil creates and develops new business opportunities for DIVA based on its enabling technologies such as the companys theatrical trailer service, and the childrens subscription package. Neil produced the DIVA web site and works on various corporate initiatives such as implementing satellite distribution. Prior to joining DIVA in 1987, Neil was Vice President of Witt-Thomas Films overseeing all aspects of production as well as day-to-day operations of the company. Previously, he was Director of Worldwide Acquisitions for Warner Bros. Before entering the studio system, Neil was Director of Business Affairs at Trans Atlantic Entertainment. A 14-year veteran of the entertainment industry, Neil is also a produced film and television writer. |
