Video on Demand - Internet, ITV and Digital Set-top Redefine the Options
The combination of the Internet, cable and satellite delivery plus the digital set-top box present a future of video on demand that may well make the nay-sayers of the digital content explosion a tad pre-mature. While the era of movies via Internet may be take time to fully evolve into a robust marketplace, digital delivery of entertainment content emerge via a variety of technologies. Not only is the traditional satellite and cable delivered video-on-demand industry about turn on its head due to the next generation set-top box, the relationship between the Internet delivered VOD and the set-top box is about to present an entirely set of options for content companies. The Internet is not only a mechanism to reach directly to the broadband consumer, it is also a way to reach the cable and satellite head-end, providing access to whole libraries of film and tv content. Video on demand is a major theme of this conference and this session will be the first of many roundtables to address it.

Curt Marvis is CEO of CinemaNow. Previously, he led 7th Level in its transformation from a game development company to a web-based e-learning and communications services. He was co-founder and executive vice president of Powerhouse Entertainment and was CEO of The Company, an award-winning privately held production company that produced and developed more than 200 music videos, concerts, home videos and commercials. He earned his B.F.A. Summa Cum Laude from the UCLA Film School in 1980.













Steve Chester, founder, Digital Planet: Since founding Digital Planet in 1999, Steven Chester has directed the company's expansion to its current leadership position as a producer of many of the Internet&Mac226;s most popular events. These have included such major venues as Democratic National Convention (DNC) and Town Hall Meetings for Doritos Rock The Vote 2000 Tour, as well as webcasting for the Internet's top portals and destinations, including Yahoo!, Excite, Lycos and America Online, WebMD, Wherehouse.com, DNA Sciences and BBC America, among many others. At iXL in 1998, Chester was VP of enchanged television and broadband. Previously, Chester owned and operated World Wide Workshop, where he created on and off-line advertising and marketing campaigns for "Generation Y" brands such as Smashbox Cosmetics and Mossimo and expanded Gap&Mac226;s product line. Chester as also a former marketing manager for CBS, Inc. and began his career in the entertainment industry as a production assistant for legendary film directors Woody Allen and Brian DePalma, before joining the marketing department at Hemdale Film Corporation. A graduate of the University of Berkeley, Chester also holds an MBA from The Stern School of Business at New York University. He received a film certificate from New York University and studied marketing at E.S.A.D.E. in Barcelona, Spain.

Sid Amira, CEO, TotalPayPerView: TotalPayPerView was formed in May 2000 to capitalize on the enormous growth that is occuring in two separate and distinct industries: the payperview industry and the Internet. TPPV is a narrow and deep vertical portal that will provide viewers with comprehensive information, both video and text, so that they can make informed decisions about the PPV products available on their viewing platforms. Sid Amira is a pioneer in the PPV industry, creating and launching EventTelevision (ETV), which evolved into IN DEMAND, the largest U.S. distributor of PPV. Amira also created World Concerts, a joint venture of ABC, Paramount Pictures and RadioVision, which offered highly acclaimed PPV events including the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Celebration. In addition, Amira served as Chairman and CEO of PrimeTime 24, the largest redistributor of network signals to the home dish market as well as the exclusive distributor of the WWF to the C-Band market. Amira also was Senior Vice President of the Madison Square Garden Network, offering the Knicks, Rangers and Yankees to the cable industry.

Mark Snowden, Senior Analyst, Gartner, Inc.: Mark Snowden is a Senior Analyst responsible for e-business programs focusing primarily on the use of media and entertainment products and services for the e-home. Mr. Snowden bases much of his work on data collected from large-scale interviewing at the consumer level, and provides a research foundation for the strategic decisions of the world's leading cable, telecommunications and media companies. Before the 1999 acquisition by Gartner of INTECO, Mr. Snowden was INTECO's lead analyst for Media & Entertainment, Technology and Infrastructure tracks, where he managed the primary research process from the program's inception and amassed a broad knowledge of the important business issues faced by many industries, related to consumers' use of interactive technology.







Stephen Ste. Marie, President & Chief Operating Officer, Intertainer: Stephen Ste. Marie is an experienced leader with two decades of proven success at some of America’s foremost technology and media companies. As Intertainer’s President & Chief Operating Officer, Ste. Marie is responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations, as well as helping to manage Intertainer’s strategic direction as it continues to establish itself as the premiere video-on-demand service. Previously as Chief Executive Officer for CareerPath.com, Ste. Marie had overall responsibility for the strategic direction and operating management for the company. Under his leadership, Careerpath.com grew to the second most popular website in the highly competitive career management category. Ste. Marie successfully merged and integrated CareerPath.com with CareerBuilder.com in September 2000 to create the leading career management site on the Internet. Ste. Marie joined CareerPath.com in July 1998 after serving six years at DIRECTV Inc. as Senior Vice President. In that position, Ste. Marie designed and implemented DIRECTV’s highly successful marketing and retail sales distribution plan. Ste. Marie oversaw all consumer launch strategies, as well as several key business functions, including pricing, marketing, advertising, promotion, and distribution channel development. Under his direction, DIRECTV became a nationally known brand and category leader in the subscription television industry. Early in his career, Ste. Marie served as senior vice president at American Television and Communications Corporation (now Time Warner Cable) and vice president of marketing at Viacom International. Before entering the media business in 1981, Ste. Marie was a product management executive for the Pepsi Cola Company. In addition to his current responsibilities, Ste. Marie serves as a member of the Board for Home Director Inc. Previous Board experiences include: Martin Media Inc. and iSearch Inc. In addition, he was the first member of the Advisory Board of TiVo Inc., the leader in the Personal Video Recording (PVR) business. Ste. Marie earned his Masters degree in business administration at Pace University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
