David L. Kang, J.D., Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Entertainment, Major League Baseb all Advanced Media. Mr. Kang leads MLB Advanced Medias Entertainment joint venture operations, partnering with leading music artists on their official websites and developing paid content, ecommerce, sponsorship and ticketing revenue opportunities. In addition, Mr. Kang has developed digital strategies for MLB Advanced Media sports partners, including AVP Pro Beach Volleyball. Prior to MLB Advanced Media, Mr. Kang was Senior Vice President, Strategic Development and New Media at the artist management company The Firm, developing new model deals encompassing multiple revenue streams for music artists including Korn and Ice Cube. Mr. Kang also developed digital strategies for The Firms artists including Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Vin Diesel, Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park, Staind, and Criss Angel. Prior to The Firm, Mr. Kang was a media and entertainment consultant at McKinsey and Company, where he advised a music television entertainment client on its digital entertainment hub and its DVD, game and merchandise businesses. At McKinsey, Mr. Kang also led due diligence for private equity firms in wireless content and in music publishing and conducted primary market research for a leading cable MSO. Prior to McKinsey, Mr. Kang was Senior Vice President, New Technology and Strategic Development at BMG Entertainment, where he led a team of technology, strategy and finance specialists with worldwide responsibility in $4.7 billion music company. At BMG, Mr. Kang developed wholesale online distribution, CD copy protection and digital rights management strategies, negotiated BMGs first online music download and subscription license with MusicNet, and managed a $50 million strategic investment fund and held board seats in two portfolio firms. Prior to BMG, Mr. Kang was an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School where he published articles analyzing the effects of corporate governance on firm strategy and performance. At Harvard Business School, Mr. Kang also served as a technology evangelist for the Schools online course platform and distance learning initiatives, and taught in both the MBA and Executive Education programs. Mr. Kang holds a Joint Ph.D. degree in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University and Harvard Business School, an MA in Sociology from Harvard University, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Brian Grey is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of FOXSports.com whe re he oversees the programming, production and business operations for Fox Interactive Medias industry leading sports sites including FOXSports.com and Fox Sports Mobile, Scout.com and WhatIfSports.com. A veteran of online media and sports marketing, Grey joined Fox Interactive Media (FIM) in August 2005 from Yahoo!, Inc., where he served as General Manager of Yahoo! Sports, a top sports site and the Webs leader in Fantasy Sports gaming services. While at Yahoo!, Grey guided both the strategic business and programming direction of Yahoo! Sports, and spearheaded the launch of several original programming initiatives including the recurring Yahoo! SportsStream video series featuring exclusive analysts such as Cris Carter, Steve Kerr and Clark Kellogg, and the innovative Fantasy Sports marketing concepts. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Grey was Vice President of Business Development at web-based image hosting service Shutterfly where he was instrumental in securing strategic partnerships with Microsoft, Dell, and Verizon among others. Grey earned his bachelors degree in Economics and Mathematics from Pacific University (1990), MA in Economics from UC Santa Barbara (1991), and MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA (1997). He has also spent time as a pitching coach at UC Santa Barbara in 1993, and scouted for the Chicago White Sox in 1994-95.
Jimmy Lynn, AOL Vice President, Partnerships and Strategic Development, Sports and News: Jimmy Lynn is Vice President, Partnerships and Strategic Development, AOL Sports and AOL News. In this role, he and his team are responsible for developing and managing the Sports and News content relationships for AOL. He has been with AOL since June 1995. Previously, Lynn was the Advertising Manager for Home Team Sports, the CBS-owned regional sports network serving the Mid-Atlantic Region (TV partner of the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals) and the Promotion Manager for WLTT-FM, the CBS-owned and operated station in Washington, D.C. Lynn is a member of the Time Warner Sports Forum, which includes executives from Sports Illustrated, HBO Sports, TNT Sports, AOL Sports, Time Warner Cable, Time 4 Media and Warner Brothers Licensing. This group focuses on cross-company sports initiatives for Time Warner. Lynn serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance -- the comprehensive resource for sporting event promotion, sports information and regional collaboration for the Washington, DC metro area; the Hoop Dreams Foundation, which has awarded over 1,000 academic college scholarships and renewals to over 800 inner-city children and Super Leaders, a comprehensive youth leadership program for at-risk high school students. Lynn is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University (Sports Marketing Strategy course). He has a B.A. in Public Communication and an M.B.A. in Marketing from American University.
Adam Shaw is SVP of distribution, sales and marketing for the National Football Lea gues cable channel, NFL Network. He was the third employee hired when he started with the channel in May 2003, five months before the network launch. Under Shaws guidance, the network became the first ever to reach the 20-million subscriber mark in its first year, and today claims 40 million subscribers. This early success paved the way for NFL Network to secure a new package of regular season NFL games, to be played on Thursdays and Saturdays starting this Fall. During the last two years both the television and sports industries have recognized Shaw. In 2005 he was named in TV Weeks "10 to watch." In spring 2006 he was named one of Sports Business Journals "40 under 40," an annual award recognizing the top 40 sports media executives under the age of 40. Before joining the NFL Network, Shaw worked for Fox Television in Los Angeles for eight years where he held a series of positions. Starting in 1996, he was manager and director of business development for Fox Sports Net, then VP of affiliate sales for Fox Cable Networks, and then senior vice president of business development for Fox Cable Networks and COO for FX. In 2001, during his tenure at Fox, Shaw conceived the idea for Advision, an Internet-based advertising concept providing local businesses an easy and affordable way to advertise on TV. In 2005, he collaborated with childhood friend Nick Grouf to materialize the Advision concept into a viable business and rename the company Spotrunner. Today, Spotrunner is a highly successful Internet-based advertising agency that gives local businesses the ability to plan and implement an entire television advertising campaign in days instead of months and at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods. Prior to moving to LA to work for Fox, Shaw worked for two years in New York at the Boston Consulting Group before taking a nine-month hiatus in Mexico, Turks and Caicos working for Club Med. Shaw graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 1993.
David Katz, Head of Yahoo! Sports and Yahoo! Studios, Yahoo! Media Group: David K atz serves as head of Yahoo! Sports and Yahoo! Studios for the companys Santa Monica-based media group. In this role, David drives the overall strategic direction for one of the Webs leading sports sites, and also leads Yahoo! Studios, a new division that develops and produces original, user-generated and event-driven video content for all of Yahoo! Media Groups properties. David joined Yahoo! in 2005 and reports to Yahoo! Media Group head, Lloyd Braun. Prior to Yahoo!, Katz served as Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning and Interactive Ventures, CBS Television, reporting to Leslie Moonves, Co-President and Co-Chief Operating Officer, Viacom and Chairman, CBS and Nancy Tellem, President, CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group. While at CBS, Katz was responsible for analyzing business trends and helping the Network divisions think through the evolving television landscape. In his Interactive capacity, he managed the CBS.com and UPN.com websites, video streaming subscription services, interactive television, wireless and other interactive initiatives. While in this role, he oversaw several groundbreaking online original programs, including: HOUSE CALLS: THE BIG BROTHER TALK SHOW, the first daily online television talk show, and SURVIVOR LIVE: THE INTERNET TALK SHOW. Under Katz's direction, CBS.com became the most visited website among the broadcast networks, increasing traffic to more than one billion page views annually. In May 2004, CBS.com garnered more than 12 million unique visitors alone. Katz joined CBS's New York office in 1997 as Director, Strategic Management, CBS Corporation. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1998 and was named Vice President, Strategic Networking Planning in 1999. He was promoted to SVP in 2001. Prior to CBS, Katz was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company in New York (1995-97), serving a variety of Fortune 100 companies on business strategy. Katz earned a bachelor of science in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Dean's "Most Outstanding Student Award," finishing first in his class. He received a masters degree in management from Cambridge University in England. In 2001, Katz was named to the Hollywood Reporter's "Next Generation" list. He is also an Emmy Award-nominee in the category of interactive television for his work on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Star Search."
Evan J. Kamer, Octagon Worldwide, SVP, Managing Director, Digital Media, Octagon: Ev an J Kamer joined Octagon in 2005 to lead Octagons digital media practice. In this new position, he develops new business opportunities in digital content, technology and advanced media platforms and consults on digital media solutions for Octagons corporate clients. Octagon digital media focuses on non-traditional media, including broadband, wireless, interactive television and other forms of digital distribution such as video-on-demand and pod-casting. Octagon is one of the few sports and entertainment marketing agencies to house a digital media practice. Kamer joined Octagon from the National Football League where he was Senior Director of New Media and Publishing and directed the general management of NFL.com, NFL Mobile, NFL Fantasy football and other new media businesses for over seven years. In addition, he oversaw the leagues book, magazine, photography, and custom publishing initiatives. Kamer was a key visionary in the creation of the NFL Internet Network, an integrated media property that aggregates NFL.com, NFL team web sites, and related NFL online properties. Kamer is credited with helping negotiate groundbreaking alliances with Sprint Nextel, Sirius Satellite Radio, AOL Time Warner, Viacom and CBS SportsLine. Prior to joining the NFL, Kamer was a founder of About.com where he was responsible for developing new business opportunities, including member acquisition, e-commerce and strategic partnerships. Prior to About.com, Kamer was a producer at Prodigy Services where he worked on the development of some of the Internets first online communities. Kamer is based in Octagons Norwalk, Connecticut office and lives in Rye, New York with his family.
