Targeted Search and Browsers as Content and Information Platform: Aggregating Markets and Advertising
With hundreds of millions of consumers addressing their need for daily information, entertainment and contact with the outside world via the global broadband highway, their gateway to information, their tools for navigation, will define much of that experience. More and more, the idea of search is being replaced by an definition that search is a tool to access or address all issues of information, choice and the boundaries of experience. The day of turning on your television and turning to a channel will soon be replaced by an intelligent navigation tool that will assist the consumer in reaching entertainment, information as well as commerce. Broadband will be a concept that defines all communications platforms, from TV and cable to computer, handheld and other mobile devices. In this session we will begin a discussion, that is likely to take place at every event we hold into the future of how the consumer with search or navigate through their desired universe of activity.

Andrew Pancer, COO, About, Inc: Andrew Pancer joined the About Executive team in summer 2005 as Chief Operating Officer, a newly created position, and will manage the operations of About's product, technology, content, sales and marketing efforts. Andrew is a familiar face at the company, as he served as Chief Financial Officer of About, Inc. from 2002 to 2004, overseeing the financial operations of About.com, Sprinks and About Web Services. Prior to re-joining About, Andrew served one year as Chief Financial Officer of Direct Revenue LLC, a contextual advertising firm. In addition to overseeing all financial responsibilities for the company, Andrew led the acquisition and integration of Soho Digital, Inc., a sales representation company with $30 million in revenues that specializes in selling contextual advertising. Andrew also led the development of Soho Digital International, the international sales arm of Direct Revenue. Andrew was controller of ECS (Electronic Commerce Solutions), the web development, direct marketing and cross-selling arm of Interactive Corporation (formerly USA Networks), from 1999 to 2002. From 1997 to 1999, he was controller at Sterling Development, Inc.; he was assistant controller from 1996 to 1997. Andrew began his career as a Staff Accountant for KPMG Peat Marwick LLP and then Ticketmaster Inc. Andrew earned a B.S. degree in business administration from Washington University, St. Louis in 1992. He received his M.B.A. degree from New York University's Stern School of Business in 2000. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
Sandeep Swadia, Senior Director, Strategic Market Development, FAST Search & Transfer: Sandeep has over 12 years of experience in the media & entertainment, technology and Internet industries, helping companies develop and implement growth strategies. At FAST, Sandeep focuses on driving market growth for content distribution and monetization solutions in media & entertainment industries. Before FAST, Sandeep was the head of marketing for a venture-backed global hi-tech firm Virtusa, where he led the companys go-to-market strategy. Prior to that, Sandeep served as a director of business development at Cisco, where he focused on growing the Cable & Broadband business. Prior to Cisco, Sandeep led engagement teams at CSC, where he helped large enterprises create disruptive e-business solutions and services. Sandeep received a Master's degree in Mathematics from Northeastern University and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Steven E. Marder, CEO, Eurekster, Inc.: Steven is Chief Executive Office r and a co-Founder of Eurekster, Inc. With significant experience in both the traditional media and technology industries and as a serial entrepreneur, Steven has almost two decades of professional experience as a business development/ corporate development executive, venture catalyst, strategic advisor and attorney. In addition to executive experience with companies such as EMI Music, Comptons NewMedia/Tribune Company and global venture catalyst Double Impact, Steven co-founded and is on the Board of enterprise search company S.L.I Systems, co-founded and managed the North American operations of Gramercy Venture Advisors, co-Founded indie recording company Metropolis Records and was Chairman/CEO/co-Founder of public company eMemberDirect, Inc./PetPlanet.com.
Suranga Chandratillake, co-founder of blinkx, is an IT innovator with over seven years' frontline experience. He received his MA in computer science from the University of Cambridge, England specialising in distributed processing architectures. Following his university years, Suranga worked as a software developer for Morgan Stanley, creating global risk resolution systems as well as on next-generation voice recognition technologies at netdecisions, an IT consultancy group. While working at netdecisions, Suranga joined a small Cambridge-based technology start-up called anondesign, working in the area of commerce-focused content management and delivery. In true start-up fashion, he held numerous roles including presales, product development and software development. Another Cambridge-based technology firm - Autonomy Corporation - caught Suranga's attention and he joined the company where he became the operational CTO. After three successful years at Autonomy, Suranga went on to found blinkx. Blinkx, the smartest thing on your computer, is changing the way that people think about search technology. Free-to-download, blinkx automatically and intelligently links to relevant information anywhere and in any format: on the Web, in the news or on the desktop. Utilizing blinkx, users are no longer limited to Boolean keyword search. Instead, blinkx automatically and implicitly conducts searches based on the content being view by each individual user. blinkx is a privately-held firm based in San Francisco and London.
Sesh Srinivasan, CTO, Kosmix: Srinivasan "Sesh" Seshadri, Chief Technology Officer, Kosnix: Srinivasan "Sesh" Seshadri has several years of experience in the industry as well as academia performing active research and guiding R&D projects to commercial success. Most recently, Sesh was the CTO of the Yahoo India Development Center in Bangalore. Prior to Yahoo, Sesh was founder and CEO of Strand Genomics, which develops technologies and products for research biology and drug discovery. Before he co-founded Strand, he served as Director of the Distributed Computing Research Department and the CTO of the Network Management Business Unit, Optical Networking Group in Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies. His undergraduate education was at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and he obtained his Masters and Ph.D. in Data Management Systems from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Sesh joined the Computer Science Faculty of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai in 1992 and apart from being an active researcher in the areas of database systems, distributed systems and computer networking, he consulted with several database vendors and end users on issues related to data management and data analysis.
Manish Chandra, CEO and Founder, Kaboodle: Manish Chandra is the founder and CEO of Kaboodle, a new start-up delivering innovative search solutions for online shopping, travel and research. Prior to Kaboodle, Manish was the VP of Marketing at Versant (NASDAQ: VSNT). Before Versant, Manish was part of the executive team at Versata that grew the company from 8 to 600 employees and took it public in March 2000. Manish also held R&D and Product Management Roles at Sybase (NYSE:SY) and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC). Manish is a charter member of TiE and chairs the TiE SIG on Internet. Manish holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley Haas School, an MS in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Kanpur, India.
Brian Glicklich is Senior Vice President, Digital Media for Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications (NYSE:CCU), which syndicates 70 radio programs and services to more than 5,000 radio affiliations and reaches over 190 million listeners weekly. Premiere Radio is the number one radio network in the country and features the following personalities: Rush Limbaugh, Jim Rome, Casey Kasem, Ryan Seacrest, Carson Daly, Glenn Beck, Bob (Kevoian) & Tom (Griswold), Delilah, Blair Garner, George Noory, John Boy and Billy, Phil Hendrie, Matt Drudge, Art Bell, Donald Trump, Glenn Hollis, Big Tigger, and others.
Steve Hersey, Senior Director, Marketing and Product Management, Motorola Wireline Networks: Steve has 19 years of experience marketing, managing, and developing telecommunications solutions for global service providers. Steve joined Motorola in 2004 through the acquisition of Quantum Bridge, a leading supplier of Passive Optical Networking solutions. In his current role, Steve is responsible for marketing and product management for the Fiber-To-The-Premises product line in Motorola's Wireline Networks Division. Prior to joining Quantum Bridge, Steve spent 13 years at Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies where he worked in the Optical Networking Group developing and marketing SONET systems and DWDM metropolitan and long haul systems. Steve received his MSEE degree from Boston University and his BS degree from the University of Massachusetts.
