The TV and PC Internet Connection - Technology, Content, Commerce & Mass Deployment
Entertainment, News, Sports, Stock Reports - the content is flowing from the Internet into the home, landing on TVs, PCs, and new forms of big and small personal Internet appliances. With the number of broadband homes just beginning to take on speed, the flood of information is just starting to build. This is truly the start of the digital revolution that everyone has predicted. This is where the TV, the Internet and Content and Commerce all meet. In this session we will bring together various segments of the convergent industries, from the traditional TV industry, the technology industry that provides everything from the set-top boxes, microprocessors and broadband infrastructure to entertainment content and e-commerce providers who will turn all of these interactive relationships into gold.

David Mighell is the Director of Business Development-Media and Entertainment for Intel's Internet Media Services. Internet Media Services is a newly formed business within Intel's New Business Group, and it is dedicated to providing end-to-end service building blocks for hosting, distribution and value-added edge services for the Internet. Mr. Mighell is responsible for driving Business Development initiatives with top-tier clients and partners in Media and Entertainment. Mr. Mighell joined Intel in July 2000. Most recently, he worked for Microsoft's Sonic Foundry as the Director of Business Development-Media Services Division. Prior to that, he was the Deployment Program Manager-Media and Entertainment for Microsoft Digital Media Division where he was responsible for the deployment of Windows Media Technologies and participated in multiple aspects of product design and implementation. Mr. Mighell attended San Francisco State University, earning a BA in Broadcast Communication.

Bill Sheppard is Lead Business Development Manager for Digital Television within Sun Microsystems' software organization. Since joining Sun in 1997 he has been centrally involved with the strategic direction and deployment of Java technology within the television industry, dealing with leading service operators, device manufacturers, content providers, and standards bodies worldwide. Prior to joining Sun Mr. Sheppard spent eight years with a leading embedded operating system vendor working with pioneering ITV platforms and applications. Mr. Sheppard holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University.

Paul Mitchell, Senior Group Manager, Interactive Television, Microsoft TV Platforms: Paul Mitchell is the Senior Group Manager for Interactive Television, responsible for content and services for the Microsoft TV Platforms. He and his team manage a collection of evangelism and training programs for interactive content developers seeking to deploy their content and services on the new interactive television platforms, as well as for television programmers and executives looking for ways to expand their traditional businesses. He is also responsible for the development of developer tools for the TV Platforms. Mitchell was instrumental in the creation of the Advanced Television Enhancement Forum (ATVEF), an organization now involving over 70 companies worldwide, representing all aspects of television production, distribution, consumer electronics, and software, and is Microsoft’s Founder representative to the ATVEF. A veteran of Interactive TV, Mitchell formerly worked in Microsoft’s Advanced Consumer Technology group during the early experimentation with interactive technologies in the early 90s. Prior to that he worked in Microsoft’s developer division, where he launched several successful tools products, including Visual C++, and Visual C++ for Windows NT, the company’s first professional toolset for the Windows NT operating system. Recent speaking experience includes, Digital Hollywood and Convergence 2000.

Scott Burnett, Business Development Executive, Content Distribution, IBM Global Media and Entertainment Industry: As business development executive for content distribution in IBM's Global Media & Entertainment Industry, Scott Burnett is responsible for setting global strategy for media distribution and digital rights managment solutions for IBM. Scott is leading IBM's efforts following a successful market trial conducted using IBM's Electronic Music Management System (EMMS), a comprehensive digital rights management and electronic media delivery system involving five major music companies - BMG Entertainment, EMI Music, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. The AlbumDirect trial was the world's first market trial of an end-to-end digital music delivery system that offers a rich set of security features for fast and convenient distribution of CD-quality music, full-length albums and singles as well as album artwork and liner notes to consumers over the Internet. The AlbumDirect trial remains the most comprehensive initiative of its kind to date. The AlbumDirect trial emulated the consumer experience of a retail store in an online environment. The trial validated the security features and viability of the technology, demonstrated high ease of use and positive overall consumer experience, and generated a wealth of technical and consumer research findings to assist the participating companies in making decisions regarding the commercial roll-out of electronic music distribution. IBM recently began licensing the EMMS solution Summer 2000. Prior to joining IBM, Scott served as vice president, marketing for Liquid Audio, guiding Liquid Audio's global marketing strategy and positioning the Liquid Audio brand as a major player in digital music distribution. Prior, Scott served as vice president of corporate brands at Warner Bros. Studios, organizing global branding efforts across company divisions. He also served as vice president of Warner Bros. International Production Group. Previously, Scott served as business development director at The Walt Disney Company, managing the expansion of international production services. Among Scott's 18 years of marketing and production management experience in the entertainment industry, he has served as senior vice president of Highlight Communications, developing interactive entertainment kiosks and has filled marketing roles at Allied Digital, VCA Teletronics and 3M Company. Scott received his MBA from the University San Francisco in 1985 and his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas University in Minnesota in 1981. As an associate part-time professor, he taught marketing at the University of San Francisco.
