Digital Rights Management: Monetizing, Managing & Maximizing Digital Content: Part II
In Part II of the Digital Rights Management seminar, we will concentrate on the techniques and solutions available in enhancing the ability to distribute and sell digital content online in a secure and controlled manner. Security is issue one and the massive volume of data traffic to manage only exacerbates the problem. There are many fascinating solutions now in practice attacking the global problem of digital commerce, and with the proliferation of new Internet devices, from the PC to handhelds, the rules and standards which define this game must become absolutely clear.

Gary Ambrosino, Executive VP, SecureMedia: Gary Ambrosino is a technology visionary with over 20 years of management experience in developing and selling critical infrastructure technology solutions. Ambrosino joined the SecureMedia board in 1998 and became Chairman in 1999. He took on a full time operating role in the company in May 2000 following the company's first venture financing round. He joined SecureMedia from Xionics Document Technologies, the world leader in digital copier and printing systems technology. Ambrosino joined Xionics when it was an early stage company, and led the integration of several leveraged buyouts and acquisitions that resulted in Xionics growing from $6 million to a $38 million public company. As Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Xionics , he led the company's development of a highly integrated next generation operating system and VLSI chip product line. He was responsible for developing Xionics' first key strategic customers including Hewlett-Packard and Ricoh Corporation, which combined, represented $75 million of revenue for Xionics. Previously Ambrosino founded two successful startup companies, serving as their president and CEO. He spent eight years at Hewlett-Packard in various marketing positions. Ambrosino holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSEE from Cornell University. Founded in 1996, SecureMedia SecureMedia, Inc. provides the first end-to-end solution for securely delivering audio and video over the Internet. The SecureMedia system is highly scalable to meet the demanding needs of simultaneous real-time and on-demand content delivery to large audiences. SecureMedia is based in San Francisco, CA with offices in Boston, MA and Auckland, New Zealand.

Todd Sherman, Vice President, Corporate Services, iCopyright: Todd Sherman was most recently vice president of sales for GoAhead Software, which provides management applications and frameworks for embedded networked devices. Previously, he was the Northwest branch manager for Silicon Graphics, heading up the field sales and marketing operations in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. Major customers included Boeing, PNNL, Nintendo, Nordstrom, Nike, and Tektronix. Sherman has also had marketing, product management, and technical roles with Silicon Graphics, Wyse Technology, and Calma/GE.











Carlos Montalvo is the Chief Marketing Officer at Virage, Inc. Carlos joined Virage in 1998 to lead their product and marketing organizations. Over the past two years he has helped Virage bring to market such products as the Virage VideoLogger(TM), the Virage Video Application Server(TM) and the Virage Internet Video Guide(TM). Today, these products are redefining how content owners publish, manage and syndicate video on the Web. Prior to joining Virage, Carlos was corporate vice president of Apple Computer's Interactive Media Group, where he was responsible for Apple's suite of QuickTime technologies and products, including QuickTime, QuickTimeVR, QuickDraw3D and QuickTimeTV. As director of marketing for Apple's Entry Systems division, he led the product management and introduction of Apple's first integrated video-in/video-out architecture for consumer PCs. Prior to Apple he held several positions at Xerox, including program lead for the Xerox J-Star project. Carlos began his career in government service where he served as a presidential appointee with the Reagan Administration and held several positions at the National Science Foundation.

Vincent Pluvinage joined Preview Software in June 1997 as President & CEO. In August 1998, he successfully merged Preview Software and Portland Software to create Preview Systems. From March 1987 to May 1997, he led the R&D, international operations, business development, and strategic marketing efforts for ReSound Corporation. Under his tenure, ReSound went from a four person start-up to a publicly held developer of advanced hearing technologies with over 1000 employees and $130 million in revenue. Prior to ReSound, Pluvinage was a researcher at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, N.J. and Homdel, N.J., where he worked on digital signal processing technology, including perceptual codecs, and signal extraction from noise. While at Bell Labs, he was recognized with an Exceptional Contribution Award. Dr. Pluvinage completed the Advanced Executive Management program at Stanford University and holds a Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Michigan as well as a degree in Applied Physics from the Université Catholique in Belgium, summa cum laude.

David Bass, Vice President of Business Development, Reciprocal Publishing: As Vice President of Business Development, David Bass is responsible for driving the strategy behind the Publishing Division’s revenue growth, and has done so largely through the development of strategic partnerships with leading providers in the DRM, digital distribution, and technology infrastructure markets. In addition, Bass works closely with other Reciprocal business and management executives to target company wide initiatives with both existing and new partners. Bass is a seven-year veteran of the electronic multi-media and Internet publishing industry. Prior to Reciprocal, he held senior and executive level marketing and business development positions with Thompson Publishing, Prompt Software, and Dynamic Health Concepts. An excellent speaker, Bass has been featured at BookTech West and the Washington Software Association. Bass holds a B.S. from Rutgers University, and lives and works in San Francisco.
