| Monday, January 8 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM DH21: Session A: Interactive TV/ETV Software & Programming Solutions There are two sides to the set-top box, Internet, Interactive TV and DTV introduction, one is to have the hardware in place, the other is to have ready the programming solutions that make it useful and dynamic for the TV viewer. Whether it is going to be called ETV Enhanced Television, TVs with Interactive Programming, multi-plexed TV viewing, or Customized or Personalized TV, there are a group of companies who have set the stage for this next TV generation, and we are pleased to have them represented at this session. Paul Mitchell, Senior Group Manager, Interactive Television, Microsoft TV Platforms Timothy V. Travaille, Executive Vice President, Product Marketing/Chief Technology Officer, Wink Communications Bill Sheppard, Lead Business Development Manager for Digital Television, Sun Microsystems Anthony Wood, Chief Executive Officer, ReplayTV Todd Lash, Senior Vice President, RespondTV Vincent Dureau, CTO, OpenTV Thomas J. Kerver, Business Editor, Cablevision Magazine, Moderator Timothy V. Travaille, is currently Executive Vice President, Product Marketing/Chief technology Officer. He has previously served as our Senior Vice President, Operations and Deployments from March 1998 and served as Vice President, Operations and Deployments from March 1997 to March 1998. From March 1994 to March 1997, Mr. Travaille was employed by AT&T Wireless as Vice President, Chief Information Officer. From December 1986 to February 1994, Mr. Travaille was employed by Lamonts Apparel Inc., most recently as Vice President of Information Systems and Merchandise Information Office. Mr. Travaille received B.S. degrees in Accounting and Computer Science and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Washington. Bill Sheppard is Lead Business Development Manager for Digital Television within Sun Microsystems' software organization. Since joining Sun in 1997 he has been centrally involved with the strategic direction and deployment of Java technology within the television industry, dealing with leading service operators, device manufacturers, content providers, and standards bodies worldwide. Prior to joining Sun Mr. Sheppard spent eight years with a leading embedded operating system vendor working with pioneering ITV platforms and applications. Mr. Sheppard holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University. Paul Mitchell, Senior Group Manager, Interactive Television, Microsoft TV Platforms: Paul Mitchell is the Senior Group Manager for Interactive Television, responsible for content and services for the Microsoft TV Platforms. He and his team manage a collection of evangelism and training programs for interactive content developers seeking to deploy their content and services on the new interactive television platforms, as well as for television programmers and executives looking for ways to expand their traditional businesses. He is also responsible for the development of developer tools for the TV Platforms. Mitchell was instrumental in the creation of the Advanced Television Enhancement Forum (ATVEF), an organization now involving over 70 companies worldwide, representing all aspects of television production, distribution, consumer electronics, and software, and is Microsofts Founder representative to the ATVEF. A veteran of Interactive TV, Mitchell formerly worked in Microsofts Advanced Consumer Technology group during the early experimentation with interactive technologies in the early 90s. Prior to that he worked in Microsofts developer division, where he launched several successful tools products, including Visual C++, and Visual C++ for Windows NT, the companys first professional toolset for the Windows NT operating system. Recent speaking experience includes, Digital Hollywood and Convergence 2000. Anthony Wood, Chief Executive Officer, ReplayTV: Anthony Wood founded ReplayTV Inc., the industry leading licensor of personal television technology. Before ReplayTV, Wood founded iband Inc., an Internet software company that developed Dreamweaver, the best-selling Internet authoring tool for professionals. When iband was acquired by Macromedia in 1996, Wood became VP of Internet authoring. Early in his career, he was CEO of Sunrize Industries, a leading supplier of hardware/software tools for non-linear audio recording and editing. Wood holds a degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M. |
