The Mobile Platform 2.0 is now the SmartPhone - Tablet Platform, and it will no longer be acceptable to the consumer as anything less perfect. It must be a perfect lifestyle device, a web, a phone, a texting and an email machine with full information and entertainment accessibility. The next generation of mobile devices have forever raised the bar for what all future mobile platforms must aspire to. Andrew Stalbow, Senior Vice President, Mobile, Fox Digital Entertainment: He is responsible for creating new distribution channels for 20th Century Foxs film and television properties on portable platforms worldwide. Two highlights over the past three months include pre-loading James Cameron's Avatar with every Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant mobile device sold in the US and launching an iPhone / iPad application for Glee with Smule. Prior to this, Andrew served as Vice President, International for Fox Mobile Entertainment based in London. Before Fox, Andrew was in business development at Vodafone Group, where he negotiated international content and marketing agreements for 29 operating companies around the world. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and three children.
MARK YOUNG, VP MOBILE STRATEGY & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, NBCUniversal Entertainment and Digital Networks and Integrated Marketing: Mark Young leads mobile strategy and business development on behalf of NBCUniversal Entertainment and Digital Networks brands - Fandango, Movies.com, Daily Candy, and Swirl by Daily Candy. Mark is focused on providing insights into consumer and technology trends that NBCUniversal brands can capitalize on, as well as, distribution and co-marketing of mobile web & app services, commerce, and video with third-party partners such as; mobile network providers, handset manufacturers, app stores, and retailers. Prior to Comcast, Young was at The Walt Disney Company for 7 years, of which the last 3 years he served as the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the Walt Disney Internet and Mobile Group. Prior to Disney he was the Vice President of Business Development and Partner Management for mobile data services pioneer Moviso/Infospace, and an Executive at IBM's Innovation Center where he advised studios and media companies on digital asset distribution and management. He is a member of CTIA's leadership Council and the Center of Technology Management at USC. Young holds an Undergraduate degree in Business Administration from USC and a Masters in Business Administration from USC's Marshall School of Business.
Bruce Davis, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Digimarc: Bruce Davis has been Chief Executive Officer of Digimarc since 1997 and Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2002. Mr. Davis has spent more than 25 years establishing and managing new businesses to foster development of major new technology markets and drive early adoption of novel digital technologies ranging from video games and computer entertainment, to electronic TV program guides, and, most recently, digital watermarking and secure identity management systems. Through these experiences, he has developed a keen understanding of the possibilities and pitfalls associated with fostering the diffusion of innovative technologies into emerging markets. At the start of his career, he established the intellectual property practice at Orrick Herrington and Sutcliffe, a major international law firm. He later played an important role in the development of the video game industry as Chairman and CEO of Activision, now the largest video game company in the world; and for five years he served as a member of the Software Publishers Association board of directors, which evolved into the Software & Information Industry Association, the principal trade association for the software and digital content industry. From there he founded TV Guide On Screen, a joint venture of TCI, then the leading cable television operator, and News Corporation; where his team developed the leading electronic program guide for cable television. TV Guide On Screen is now a part of Macrovision. A prolific inventor, Mr. Davis has been awarded more than 50 patents on television user interface improvements and other innovations in media management and security. In 2003, Mr. Davis was named Pacific Northwest Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year(r) for the technology category. He has a law degree from Columbia University, and a B.S. in accounting and psychology and an M.A. in criminal justice from the State University of New York at Albany.
Cameron Friedlander, VP, Director of Creative technology, Designkitchen: As the leader of Designkitchens technology practice, Cameron oversees Designkitchen's conception, development and delivery of innovative solutions across a range of media and technology platforms, and steers its teams to embrace the constant evolution of formats, functionality and convergence. Under Camerons tutelage, Designkitchen's web development and interactive teams create solutions that seamlessly integrate design and information while ensuring user experience and relevancy. Drawing on 10+ years of leadership and technology expertise, Cameron informs key project phases and deliverables including user experience, technology, business requirements, application logic, user pathway and site flow development, multimedia and video production, and UI/application technology integration. He brings new technologies and user experience models to every project-most notably, pervasive computing and real-time information flow experiences that are pushing the way a user interacts with data (NUI interfaces) and the devices are empowering the user. Cameron is a graduate of the University of Redlands in California with a BS in Computer Science.
Jordan Kobert, Strategic Partnerships, Mobile, Google: Jordan Kobert is responsible for growing and developing Google's mobile publisher network in North America, with a focus on media and entertainment. In this role, Jordan works with publishers and content creators to develop new revenue streams for their mobile business. Jordan has spent the last 7 years developing and implementing monetization strategies for Mobile and Internet companies. Jordan joined Google as part of the companys acquisition of AdMob. Prior to AdMob, Jordan ran business development and advertising for Homegain.com and cofounded his own startup, Ztail, which partners with mobile retailers and OEM's to drive sales strategies. Jordan graduated from Bates College with a BS in Economics and has an MBA from the University of Michigan (Ross).
Michael Haggerty, SVP, Director of Marketing Accountability and Research, Universal McCann: Curious Insight: Mike has years of experience developing research departments, bringing them from inception to execution. He has been integral in launching rebranding efforts with agencies like Carat and Mediavest, and has stayed on the cutting edge in analyzing and implementing emerging media tools. Surprising Result: When UM was entering its rebranding process, the agency sought out the most curious minds in the business in order to find leaders that understood how to evolve beyond a traditional media company. Mike's continued propensity to seek new trends, absorb consumer insights, and develop multi-platform strategies made him a perfect recruit. Since joining UM as SVP Director of Marketing Accountability and Research in late 2008, Mike has transformed the research department and service offerings to all UM clients in the US. Mike has a fierce passion for communication strategies, consumer insight and brand activation. He has also been vital in securing new clients at UM, advising them in their future media efforts and branding initiatives. It is UM's mission to continually reinvent our research tools and proprietary studies, and Mike has been a driving force in these projects. Prior to UM, Michael was at TargetCast tcm, where he was SVP, Director of Consumer Insights and Analytics. He played a principal role in creating their targeting and communications planning process, direction that led to the development of a total communications management approach within the existing TargetCastcm process. Mike was also the creator of a proprietary modeling tool that was a crucial development for flighting, budgeting, and ROI purposes. Client and agencies alike have lauded Michael, honoring him with the "Innovation in Marketing" award from Kraft Foods and "The Innovation Award" from MediaVest Worldwide. A veteran of FCB, Carat and MediaVest, Mike has a strong background in consumer-based research and ethnographic studies. He worked in Germany, the UK and Asia for 6 years, where he helped launch Philip's pan-European rebranding campaign and nudged Proctor & Gamble from its traditional advertising approach to consumer-centric communications media planning.
Steven L. Canepa, General Manager, Global Media & Entertainment Industry, IBM: As General Manager for IBMs Global Media and Entertainment Industry division, Steve is responsible for the P&L of the world-wide organization covering the Entertainment, Broadcast, On-line, Cable, Publishing, Satellite, Sports, Music and Advertising segments. He directs the groups strategy, marketing, business development, industry solutions, product offerings, partner relationships and sales. Mr. Canepa is a seasoned business executive with over 25 years of experience building, growing and leading profitable businesses. He is often recognized by his peers for his insights into the ongoing transformation of the Media and Entertainment Industry. Digital Media Magazine named him one of the most influential executives in Digital Media and he has received an EMMY for innovation. Mr. Canepas success stems from his extensive relationships and deep understanding of the key business imperatives facing firms in the Media and Entertainment industry as they move to optimize and transform their organizations, operations and business models to sustain excellence and profit in todays highly competitive marketplace.
Lucy Hood, Executive Director, USC CTM, (Institute of Communications Technology Management) : Lucy Hood is a highly respected industry expert in telecom strategy and digital content. USCs CTM is the worlds foremost Institute at the intersection of technology and content, offering its members cutting-edge research and business strategy, executive education and leadership forums for the digital industry. Corporate partners include AT&T, Verizon, HP, Cisco, Sun, Qualcomm, Motorola, Alcatel-Lucent, France Telecom, SK Telecom and Disney. Prior to joining USCs Marshall School of Business, Hood was President of Fox Mobile Entertainment, and Senior Vice President of News Corporation. Lucy Hood is widely known as an architect of corporate digital strategy, building News Corporations mobile business to hundreds of millions through partnerships with companies such as Vodafone, AT&T, Qualcomm, Nokia and Verisign. Hoods team introduced text messaging in the US on broadcast TV via American Idol, and invented the Mobisode®, an early innovation in mobile video content. Hood was a key executive in launching numerous technology businesses at Fox, including Fox.com and FX Cable. Previously, she was an executive at Paramount Pictures, and produced the news program, Business Times. Lucy Hood is a keynote speaker at major industry events and business conferences around the world such as CES, E3, CTIA, 3G World Congress, Wireless Influencers and Digital Hollywood. In addition, she has spoken on digital issues before top government officials in the US and in China. Lucy Hood has won numerous awards and is regularly featured in lists of key influential executives, including the Digital 50. She holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Universitys Graduate School of Business and a B.A. from Yale University.
