Leonard Brody, President, Clarity Digital Group: Leonard is a highly respected entrepreneur, venture capitalist, best-selling author and Emmy nominated media visionary. He has helped in raising millions of dollars for startup companies, been through one of the largest internet IPOs in history and has been involved in the building, financing and/or sale of five companies to date. Much critical acclaim has followed him in his endeavors. At Onvia (where he was part of the initial executive), the company was voted Canada's number one startup in 2000 and subsequently closed a $240 Million IPO on NASDAQ. In 2004, Leonard co-founded NowPublic.com which is a pioneer in the field of user generated news. The company was named by Time Magazine as one of the top 50 websites in the world, was inducted into the Newseum in Washington and was recently acquired by the Anschutz Corporation. Currently Leonard sits as the President of the Clarity Digital Group responsible for overseeing one of the largest online news conglomerates in the world including Examiner.com and NowPublic, which between them, share over 20 million unique visitors a month and over 200,000 contributors. Leonard also acts as an advisor to venture capital funds in the US, Europe and Asia. Throughout his career, has also advised several companies including, the Associated Press, Alliance Atlantis, Derby County Football Club and MTV Enterprises. In addition, he was the Senior Technology Advisor to the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Trade. Currently, Leonard is a Senior Advisor to the Canadian Ministry of International Trade and a Director of Canada's largest technology association, CATA. A highly sought-after public speaker, Leonard has lectured at universities such as Stanford, the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai and the Gordon Business School in Johannesburg. His insight has been requested by companies such as Forbes, Warner Music, as well as, the governments of countries such as India, Israel, Ireland and South Africa. He has spoken at conferences throughout the world and his work has been featured in such publications as Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, the BBC and The New York Times. Recently he was given the award as one of Vancouver's Top 40 Under 40. He is co-author of the best selling books, Innovation Nation: Canadian Leadership from Jurassic Park to Java and Everything I Needed to Know About Business...I Learned from a Canadian both published by John Wiley and Sons. Leonard holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts from Queens University, a law degree from Osgoode Hall and is a graduate of the Private Equity Course at the Harvard Business School.
Steve Smith Jr., Senior Director of Sales, yfrog: Steve Smith Jr. is the Senior Director of Sales at yfrog and its parent company ImageShack where he works to help Hollywood brands find ways to incorporate media sharing, and the organic willingness of fans to create and share it, to help build buzz around an array of projects. yfrog is a leader in photo and video sharing across Twitter and other social sites. It allows millions of people to communicate and share media content to friends and fans via mobile devices and applications. Yfrog was launched in February 2009 by ImageShack on top of the same infrastructure that supports its hosting service. With more than 65 million monthly unique visitors, ImageShack is the largest independent image hosting website.
Kamal Kaur, General Manager, RadiumOne Ad Network: Kamal is heading the team as the General Manager of RadiumOne. Prior to joining RadiumOne, Kamal managed the media team at Yahoo! Ad Network. There she provided leadership and direction in all aspects of the Yahoo Ad Network, and also contributed strategic direction after the acquisition of BlueLithium. Kamal co-founded and developed BlueLithium, a pioneer behavioral targeting ad network. She was instrumental in coordinating design, the flow of all UI features, analytical modeling of optimization algorithms, and the execution of the flagship products. She was also heavily involved in developing new business and building out the team. Prior to BlueLithium, she co-founded ClickAgents, and served as the Director of Network Development, where she successfully brought brands to the premium publishers via performance-based initiatives. She has over 13 years of experience in online media buying, media optimization and is an expert in building stellar products and teams from ground zero. Kamal holds a Bachelors degree in Science from San Jose State University. Pauline Malcolm-John, EVP of Strategic Partnerships, WeeWorld.com: An interactive advertising veteran, Pauline Malcolm-John provides expert insight into what works and what is next in social media advertising. As Executive Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for WeeWorld, she currently leads the global sales efforts, managing the advertising sales strategy and growth. Before joining WeeWorld in 2009, Pauline was Director of National Advertising Sales at Condé Nast Business Group, Digital. In this position, she managed annual advertising revenues in excess of $17 million and oversaw a team of 16 senior sales executives and sales support specialists. Previously, she served as senior regional sales manager at MySpace, where she developed revenue-generating partnerships with key consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands such as Kraft Foods. Pauline has also held sales positions at About.com, Rhythm New Media, Shopping.com and Slide. She graduated from Baruch College with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing and a minor in computer science. Her commentary has been featured in top marketing publications such as Imedia Connection, ClickZ and MediaPost, and she has spoken at various industry conferences including Advertising 2.0, Adweek's What Teen's Want Conference, Digital Hollywood and New York's 212 Advertising Club.
Clay McDaniel, Manging Director and Founder, Spring Creek Group: Clay brings more than 10 years experience in consumer product and services management, new product development, and technology marketing to the Spring Creek Group team. Prior to co-founding Spring Creek Group, Clay was the Senior Director of Product Management for RealArcade, the rapidly-growing casual games consumer digital media business at RealNetworks, Inc. Clay joined RealNetworks after 2 years at Microsoft, where he helped launch Windows XP in 2001 and drove national retail and online marketing plans for the companys flagship operating system software product. Before moving to Seattle in 2001, Clay worked as a Product Manager for enterprise middleware software pioneer Vitria Technology; as a Corporate Business Development lead at the Whitney Museum of American Art; and as a technology project Consultant for the retail and telecommunications sectors at Deloitte Consulting. Clay holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and an AB in Economics from Princeton University.
Markus Almer is president and co-founder of Almer/Blank, a digital agency and Adobe Solution Partner in Venice, California. He helps clients like Toyota, DIRECTV, Konami, and IKEA identify business opportunities and develop rich digital experiences to improve customer experiences. Markus brings valuable entrepreneurial experience combined with proven leadership and international business skills. Building a digital media agency over the past 8 years, Markus gained extensive expertise in Internet technologies. As an Inventor of a patented Graphic User Interface he knows the market opportunities of digital media applications. Markus speaks frequently at events and conferences including Digital Hollywood, and the American Marketing Association. He is also co-founder of the Rich Media Institute in Los Angeles. Markus began his career in digital media in 1998 by introducing patented digital business card technology to the US market. He earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Zurich. Markus grew up in Switzerland and currently resides in Southern California.
Soniya Monga, Global Marketing Solutions at LinkedIn: From the world of finance to fashion, and non-profits to technology, Soniyas background includes roles at Morgan Stanley Canada and stints in public relations at Faulhaber PR. She has been part of the strategic planning teams responsible for delivering The Interior Design Show and The International AIDS Conference. In her last role, Soniya led the digital and social media strategy for Microsoft Canadas midmarket business focusing on building innovative online programs for the CIO audience. Soniya has recently come onboard the new team at LinkedIn Canada, where she works with marketers to empower a connection with the worlds largest audience of influential, affluent, and successful professionals. Soniya is also the Community Manger at Techvibes.com, an online and central resource that enables synergies within the global and Canadian technological landscapes. You can also find Soniya as the co-host of Perpetual Radios Social Media Show weekly podcast focusing on the Canadian tech and social media landscape.
