This panel will provide a forward-looking perspective on the digital media ecosystem by bringing together leading digital media venture capitalists to discuss emerging market opportunities, near-term exit opportunities and predictions on industry investment trends. The discussion will examine the changing landscape of content delivery methods (e.g. the Connected Home, Cloud Media and Services), the benefit and challenges of divergent business models (e.g. freemium, subscription, ad-suported) and the role of platform economics and risks for new digital businesses. A lively debate for entrepreneurs and industry executives alike.

Richard Yen, Director, Saban Ventures: Richard is a Director at Saban Ventures, an early-stage venture firm investing in digital media, mobile, and consumer Internet start-ups. Saban Ventures is the venture capital investment arm of Saban Capital Group, a private investment firm founded by Haim Saban in 2001 and specializing in the media, entertainment, and communications industries. Prior to joining Saban Ventures, Richard was a Principal at Blueprint Ventures in San Francisco where he established the firm's digital media and Internet investing practice. He led early-stage investments and was an active Board member at several leading digital media start-ups. Prior to that, Richard was at Rustic Canyon Partners, an early-stage technology venture capital firm in Southern California where he focused on software infrastructure and wireless investments. In his prior operating roles, Richard played a lead role as the fourth employee at ShockMarket, a Silicon Valley-based consumer Internet start-up that raised $6 million in venture funding and grew to 25 employees. As Director of Technology, he oversaw software development, negotiated and closed sales of first-generation products, and assisted with venture fundraising. Richard began his career as an early member of D. E. Shaw & Co.'s Internet incubator in Boston. He developed the technology behind the company's pioneering web brokerage and was the lead technical liaison to Fortune 100 business partners. Richard was promoted from Senior Software Engineer to Vice President in a four-year span, during which the business unit grew from 10 to 80 employees and was acquired by Merrill Lynch, where he served as VP of Intelligent Technologies. Richard earned a BS in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from UC Berkeley and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, both with high honors. Richard is a graduate of the Kauffman Fellows Program

DAVID MIN is a Principal at Steamboat Ventures and has been with the company since its founding in 2000. David has over 16 years of experience in media and entertainment and technology. David currently serves on the board of directors of Scrapblog and Voodoovox. Prior to Steamboat, David worked for over 5 years in various capacities in corporate strategic planning at The Walt Disney Company. Earlier in his career, David worked as a producer and screenwriter in television and motion pictures for Warner Brothers and as a Creative Executive in motion picture development for Imagine Entertainment. Throughout his career, David has worked with all of the major Hollywood Studios including CBS, Miramax, Sony Pictures, Universal and his past experience also includes working with the industry leading pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. David received a BS in Biology and a BA in Telecommunications from Indiana University, and an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Business.

Mamoon Hamid, Partner, US Venture Partners: Mamoon joined USVP in 2005 and is a Partner at the firm. At USVP, his interests and areas of investments span the spectrum of IT and Cleantech. Mamoon has led USVP's investments in Act-On Software, Box.net, Castlight Health, and Yammer and represents USVP on those company's boards. He also works closely with Contour Energy Systems, Optichron and Supplyframe. He has been an advisor at Yelp since its inception. Prior to joining USVP Mamoon spent eight years various engineering and marketing roles primarily at Xilinx. There he was responsible for defining and implementing sales and marketing strategies that grew the company's consumer electronics and automotive market segment revenues five-fold to $100M in a span of three years. Previously, Mamoon also worked for Deutsche Bank. Mamoon holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University, an MS in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is also a graduate of the Kauffman Fellows Program. A native of Pakistan, Mamoon spent the pre-college part of his life in Frankfurt, Germany and is multi-lingual in German, Urdu and Hindi.



Michael Yang, Managing Director, Comcast Interactive Capital: Michael joined Comcast Interactive Capital in March 2009 and is a Managing Director based in our Silicon Valley office. Previously, he was a Vice President/General Manager at Yahoo! in the Media Group as well as the Local Markets & Commerce Division where he managed Yahoo! Autos, Yahoo! Real Estate and Yahoo! Health; co-led Yahoo! Shopping; and was part of the team that formed Yahoo!’s strategic alliance with the Newspaper Consortium. Prior to that, Michael was a Principal with Atlas Venture, a trans-Atlantic venture capital firm, where he focused on early stage enterprise software and IT investments in New England. Earlier in his career, he served as senior director of product marketing and business development for Zaplet, a venture-backed collaboration software company, and was a member of AOL’s Business Affairs team which focused on e-commerce and interactive marketing partnerships. Michael graduated from Harvard University with an MBA and the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics from The Wharton School. Michael serves on the Board of Directors of Accolade, Inc. and Carwoo, Inc.

Dana Settle,
Partner, Greycroft Partners: She heads the firm’s west coast office. Prior to joining Greycroft, Dana spent several years as a venture capitalist and advisor to startup companies, first as a Venture Partner with Mayfield, where she focused on early stage companies in the mobile communications and consumer Internet markets, and later as a Partner with VSP Capital. As a venture capitalist, Dana invested in and advised several portfolio companies, including MobileStar (sold to TMobile), Revenue Science, Trigo (sold to IBM), Truveo (sold to AOL) and Doppelganger. Dana’s additional experience includes investment banking at Lehman Brothers in the media and communications group and international business development at McCaw Cellular Communications. Dana holds a BA in Finance and International Studies from the University of Washington and an MBA from Harvard Business School.






Mark Terbeek, Partner, MK Capital: Mark is a Partner at MK Capital. Mark focuses on investment opportunities in the digital media and data center automation sectors. Prior to founding MK Capital, Mark co-founded Jamcracker, Inc., an enterprise software provider and served as its vice president of corporate development. He also worked at McKinsey & Co., a management consulting firm as a business analyst. He has served on the board of directors of Bladelogic, VPNet Technologies, Network Commerce, Kontiki, and was actively involved at Exodus Communications. He currently serves on the boards of the following MK Capital portfolio companies: Machinima, Generate, Netuitive, and NBX. Mark is a graduate of DePauw University and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Mark is based in our Los Angeles office

Ivana Ma Kirkbride: Google/YouTube: Ivana Kirkbride manages strategic partnerships at YouTube, focusing on content strategy and content partnerships with television, film and new media companies. Prior to joining YouTube, Ivana was the founder and CEO of The New Media Advisory Group, where she worked with content creators to identify and monetize cross-platform properties, such as the popular blog Awkward Family Photos. Before founding The New Media Advisory Group, Ivana was partner and president of New Media at Generate, a next-generation media company, where she led the development and acquisition of new media properties and the build out of Generate's distribution networks. Previously, Ivana spent five years in venture capital at ABS Capital Partners and Advent International's Digital Media and Communications Fund. Ivana holds a bachelor's degree in science with a concentration in finance from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
