The Launch of UltraViolet - Advancing Digital Home Entertainment
The Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) Consortium has completed the technical specifications and licensing agreements for the new UltraViolet ecosystem. In July, DECE announced the launch of the UV licensing program. With the first UltraViolet-enabled movie titles hitting the market this fall, this groundbreaking home entertainment ecosystem aims to provide consumers with the freedom to choose when and where they access their favorite movies and television shows based on a rights-locker-in-the-cloud concept. This special breakfast session will begin with a brief overview of the UltraViolet ecosystem followed by a moderated Q&A panel with digital entertainment industry executives closely involved in UltraViolet.

Brad Hunt, President, Digital Media Directions, LLC
Brad Hunt, President, Digital Media Directions, LLC: a digital media technology consulting firm: Mr. Hunt works closely with clients in the fields of 3D home video, digital rights management, digital content distribution, high-definition DVD managed copying, content fingerprinting & watermarking, and video metadata. He represents Samsung in CEA 3D standards activities. Previous to forming his consulting company, Mr. Hunt was the Chief Technology Officer of the Motion Picture Association of America for nearly eight years. At the MPAA, he worked closely with the six major studios on content protection technology initiatives, standards setting, and policymaking. His positions prior to joining the MPAA included President & CEO of Cintel Inc., a manufacturer of digital film scanners and post-production products, Sr. Vice President of Technology for All Post Inc., a Los Angeles video and audio post-production facility, and a long career at the Eastman Kodak Company where he held jobs in research & development, marketing, international sales, and strategic planning. Mr. Hunt has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. degree from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester. He is a member of the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
Jason Spivak is Senior Vice President, Digital Distribution at Sony Pictures Hom e Entertainment. In his role, Spivak is responsible for SPHE's domestic digital business as well as the worldwide management of key global accounts. Spivak is a veteran of the home entertainment industry, having held management positions in both the physical and digital segments of the business. Prior to his current role, Spivak served as SPHE's Senior Vice President, Strategic Development and, prior to that, as Vice President, Digital Distribution. Before joining Sony Pictures, Spivak spent 8 years at MGM Home Entertainment working in both Los Angeles and London. While at MGM, Spivak led that studio's early digital distribution efforts. Spivak holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business and a BA from UCLA.
Adam Powers, Vice President, Technology, Rovi Corporation: Adam Powers is vice president of technology at Rovi Corporation, where he is responsible for standards and technology initiatives across Rovi's product lines, including on-screen guides, metadata, Internet content and content sharing. Adam joined Rovi in January 2007 after the company had acquired Mediabolic, where he had served as principal engineer and architect for the Connected Platform. Prior to this, Adam was co-founder and CTO of the IPTV home networking company, Coaxsys. He has served as Chair of the Ecosystem Committee of the DLNA, where he led the efforts of the members of the digital living ecosystem in support of the DLNA's charter of enabling content sharing between any variety of consumer devices and customer premises equipment. He is also a member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, and participates in standards activities at CableLabs and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Adam attended California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo for Computer Engineering.
Justin Herz, SVP, Direct to Consumer & GM Advanced Digital Services, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and Advanced Digital Services: In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of the direct-to-consumer business within Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and oversees the division's eCommerce, customer relationship management, loyalty and related initiatives, developing strategies that generate value by creating and enhancing consumer engagement through direct interaction with Warner Bros. products and programs. Herz is additionally responsible for overall management of Warner Bros. Advanced Digital Services' divisional operations, including cross-divisional client management and strategic planning, service offerings, internal product development, vendor services and integration, infrastructure, technology selection, project management and research and development for future products and services. Prior to his current post, Herz served as Vice President, Digital Marketing and Production Services, Warner Bros. Advanced Digital Services, where he had oversight of the division's marketing and production efforts, managing producers, project and product maanagers and design staff in the creation of branded consumer sites, including warnerbros.com and HarryPotter.com. Additionally, he coordinated global marketing and promotional campaigns to support theatrical, home video, games, and consumer products releases as well as supported Warner Bros.' direct-to-consumer efforts. Additionally, Herz managed the Advanced Digital Services mobile product development organization in the design and creation of Warner Bros. mobile applications and games, wireless application protocol sites, and personalization content in support of the Studio's mobile publishing and licensing business. Herz joined Warner Bros. in 2003 as Vice President, Client Services, Warner Bros. Online. Prior to that, he helped start Tonos Entertainment, joining the company in 2000 as Executive Vice President and General Manager before being promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2001. From 1999 to 2000, he was Senior Vice President/General Manager at MTV Networks' Sonicnet.com. Before that, Herz served for three years as Vice President of Production for MTV Interactive, and from 1990 to 1995, he was Director of Production at AT&T/Downtown Digital. Herz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University.
