Donna Powell is the co-founder, president and chief operating officer of Los Angeles-based Meteor Games, an innovative game development studio bridging the gaps between the engaging nature and broad appeal of web-based gaming, the community-focused elements of todays social networks and the fun and depth of traditional massively multi-player online games. Meteor Games currently has two of the fastest growing applications on Facebook, Island Paradise and Little Rock Pool. Island Paradise surpassed more than 10 million players mere months after its release, thanks in large part to viral marketing via the Facebook fan page. Prior to launching Meteor Games, Powell created and co-founded Neopets in 1999 with her husband, Meteor Games CEO and creative director, Adam Powell. The first web-based multi-player game of its kind, Neopets is recognized as the online phenomenon that helped start the social networking and web-based gaming craze. Through cross-promotion of plushies, trading cards and more with companies including McDonalds, Target and Limited Too, Neopets quickly became one of the most popular online destinations for pre-teens and teenagers and continually outranks similar sites for stickiness. In 2005, Neopets sold to MTV Networks, a division of Viacom, for $160 million, and remains one of the largest and most popular destinations for kids and teens on the Internet.
