Steven Schwartz, Chief Digital Officer, Wenner Media: Steven Schwartz is currently the Chief Digital Officer for Wenner Media overseeing all digital activity for the companys brands: Rolling Stone, Us Weekly and Mens Journal. Since joining Wenner media in January 2009, Steven has successfully redesigned Usmagazine.com and achieved impressive growth both in audience and advertising revenue as well as social media including growing Us Weekly to the Webs largest celebrity fan page on Facebook. He is now spearheading the transformation of RollingStone.com with a major site redesign slated for April of this year. Before joining Wenner, Steven was General Manager, Digital / RD Community where he oversaw all digital assets for the division including the Web site for the flagship brand, ReadersDigest.com, as well as Selecciones.com, online book promotion, mobile, video initiatives and more. Previously, he was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Reuters Consumer Media for North America, where he was responsible for managing Reuters consumer businesses, including Reuters.com, the Reuters sign in Times Square and the Reuters online syndication business. Steven held several prior roles within Reuters Media including Vice President of Global Business Operations, where he was responsible for a variety of key user-focused areas, including new product development, operations and business development. Prior to joining Reuters, Steven headed global business development for Multex.com, Inc., a company that Reuters acquired in March 2003. In that role, he developed distribution relationships and strategic alliances to drive revenue for Multexs B2B segments as well as MultexInvestor.com, the consumer website that focused on company information and investment research geared to individual investors. Before taking his career online, Steven spent five years in intellectual property licensing with a firm focused on brand extension and patent licensing where he represented a diverse roster of corporations, cultural institutions and nonprofit organizations in extending their brands and patents to non-competitive categories and markets. Steven is a lawyer by training and practiced commercial litigation for a brief period early in his career. He lives in Manhattans Upper West Side with his wife and two children.
Richard Gingras, Chief Executive Officer, Salon: Richard Gingras was appointed Chief Executive Officer in May 2009. Prior to joining Salon, he worked as an advisor to various technology startups and also served as an advisor on media product strategy to the executive team at Google from November 2007 through December 2008. From June 2002 through July 2007 he was founder, CEO and Chairman of Goodmail Systems and continued as Chairman through October 2008. From September 2000 through June 2002, he was an advisor to various technology startups including Audiomill (merged into Real Networks, April 2002), technology incubator ChanceTechAV, web applications platform provider Laszlo Systems, custom book publisher MyPublisher, and broadband applications platform developer Sugar Media. From January 1996 through January 1999, he was the founding Vice President, Programming and Editor-in-Chief of @Home Network and following that company's acquisition of Excite became Senior Vice President and General Manager of Excite@Home's consumer portal division through September 2000. In late 1995 he assembled the seed financing for Salon.com and has served as an informal advisor to the company. From September 1993 to January 1996 he was Group Product Manager, Online Services at Apple Computer. From the spring of 1992 through July 1993 he was Group Product Manager at the Peter Norton Computing division of Symantec Corporation. From September 1987 through May 1993 he was Chief Executive Officer of MediaWorks, Inc. Mr. Gingras holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Boston College.
Brendan Canning is the Senior Director of Digital Video Distribution within Disney and ESPN Media Networks' Affiliate Sales and Marketing group. He celebrated 10 years with the Company this past October. Brendan has served in numerous capacities within Affiliate Sales and Marketing, including servicing the Special Markets industry, managing ESPN's pay-per view business and working within the National Accounts group to license linear networks to multichannel distributors. Today, he leads a team whose charge is to develop and implement the digital distribution strategy for ESPN and the ABC Cable Networks group.
Anurag Harsh, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, Ziff Davis Inc.: Anurag Harsh spearheads strategic initiatives and new innovations for Ziff Davis. His portfolio includes all Ziff websites including the flagship PCMAG.com, as well as partnerships, affiliate revenues, international and domestic licensing, and advanced data analytics. He reports directly into former Time Inc. Digital President Vivek Shah who in partnership with Boston-based PE firm Great Hill Partners, recently acquired the company. Prior to Ziff Davis, Anurag was Group Vice President at IDG [$3.8B revenue], where he ran IDGs worldwide syndication business for PCWorld, MACWorld, CIO and ComputerWorld, new publisher acquisition & monetization, M&A, and strategic planning. Prior to IDG he was Vice President Strategic Solutions at CBS, in charge of media strategy and monetization for CBS Interactives technology, music and entertainment businesses. He also ran Business Development at CNN as a Director driving all non-media-sales revenue for CNN.com. Prior to his corporate media career Anurag was a Principal with Deloitte and a media Venture Capitalist with Charles River. He has authored the McGraw-Hill wireless media bestseller book titled M-Commerce Security. Anurag is a trained vocalist with a Masters in Music and maintains an active concert calendar. He recently performed a sold out solo concert at New Yorks Carnegie Hall. He is the Chair of the Wharton Media Leaders Network of NY. An Alfred Sloan Fellow, Anurag holds an MBA from MIT Sloan and an MS from Wharton. In 2009 he won the AABDCs Outstanding Asian American in Business Award.
Rebecca Paoletti, Chief Product Officer - Legion Enterprises, LLC: With 16 years of experience in digital media, Rebecca Paoletti is an industry-leading expert in online video strategy and monetization. As CPO at Legion Enterprises LLC, Paoletti manages the development of all Legion Enterprises properties, companies and applications and oversees all sales and client relationships. Paoletti comes to Legion from Yahoo! where she most recently served as head of video for the North America region, managing video strategy and programming, and developing online video programs and branded entertainment for marketers, publishers and partners. Core to her role was evangelization and education internally and externally on the constant innovation and monetization opportunities with the digital video medium. Before joining Yahoo!, Paoletti served as creative director at Maven Networks, where she developed core product evolution and managed broadband video strategy for various Fortune 500 companies including GM/Chevrolet, Pepsi, Nike and 20th Century Fox. She previously worked at Gotham Broadband where she served as vice president, strategy and programming, oversaw sales strategy and developed unique client GTM plans for clients such as AOL Time Warner, Hughes Network Systems, Turner Broadcasting, Bravo/IFC, MCI Worldcom and Sprint. Her original forays into Internet programming were as Managing Editor for Excite@Home, and as Editor-in-Chief of AOL/Road Runners broadband portal. Paoletti is a graduate of Princeton University and resides in New York City.
Ben McOwen Wilson, European Digital Media Analyst, Independent: From 2005 to August 2010, Ben held Executive positions at ITV plc, the UKs largest commercial broadcaster, for the last 3 years as Managing Director of Online and Interactive. There he oversaw all ITVs digital and new media businesses, including <http://itv.com/>itv.com, the hugely successful online video site, ITVs Interactive and Telephone voting businesses, and all of its video-on-demand (VOD) activities, including being Chairman of the Project Kangaroo video-on-demand JV with the BBC. During his time managing the business, Ben delivered commercial success with annual revenue growth of over 50% in the online business, and sponsored creative renewal in digital which was recognised earlier this year with the award of an International Digital Emmy. Prior to leading the Online business, Ben was ITVs Director of Strategy, where his role spanned corporate strategy including two hostile bid defences and strategic planning for the entire ITV group - the Network and Studios businesses. In his pre-ITV life, Ben was Partner at Spectrum Strategy Consultants, Europes preeminent strategy advisers to the media, entertainment, and telecommunications sectors. He has lived and worked on all five continents. Ben holds undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications in Psychology and Occupational Psychology. He has two young daughters, Lily and Anya. In any free time not spent with his kids, Ben enjoys cinema (pulp and art-house), and walking and climbing in the high places of the world occasionally falling off.
Russell P. Reeder, President and CEO, LibreDigital, Inc.,: Russell P. Reeder was previously president and COO of NxTV, which was named to the Inc. magazine Fast 500 list in 2007. In 2000, Reeder founded RightsLine, Inc., a company that provides the most-used Software as a Service (SaaS) legal copyright licensing system in the media and entertainment industries. Reeder also spent over 12 years in technology sales and software development roles at companies such as Oracle, American Management Systems, and Mobil Oil. Reeder holds a bachelor of science degree from James Madison University. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, and in 2005 was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Southern California Software Council.
