Over the Top TV Content and the Consumer Experience New Technologies as Gateway to the New Hollywood The combination of the TV, the set-top, the broadband connection and a host of new CE devices and services is breaking down the barriers of the TV viewing experience. And as the technology innovates, the relationship between the content producer and the consumer is being completely redefined. Every player in the entertainment and technology food chain from content owner to middleware and head-end operator, to the subscriber service provider and finally to the CE manufacturer, all play an equally key role. The idea that consumers might use a TV, demanding personal and enhanced video services, as they do a computer has arrived and at this dinner, we welcome the industry players who are leading this transformation. Simon Morris, CMO, LOVEFiLM: Simon Morris is a Londoner and a graduate of the European Business School in 1987. His career began at Lintas Worldwide advertising Agency, where he worked on various Unilever accounts, as well as Boddingtons, Japan Airlines and Virgin as account director. He crossed over to a marketing role with SEGA UK at the start of the legendary games wars in the early 90's as UK marketing director. In 1994 he moved to become consumer Marketing Director of BSkyB for 2 years, and stayed in television as Managing Director of Ginger Television Productions. During this time his own consultancy firm helped Lego Media break into international television, and also provided marketing for the launch of Autonomy in 1997. In 1998 he was a co-founder of the dot.com content super brand 365 Corp. He has been involved with LOVEFiLM since its launch in early 2004. He is married with 3 children and lives in West London.
Dave Habiger, President and Chief Executive Officer, Sonic Solutions: Dave Habiger has served as president and CEO of Sonic Solutions since April 2005. A leader in digital media software, Sonics products range from advanced authoring systems used to produce Hollywood DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles to award-winning consumer applications and services. During his tenure, the companys product portfolio expanded to include the Roxio CinemaNow platform with innovative technologies and services to enable the digital distribution and enjoyment of premium video entertainment. Mr. Habiger has held various roles at Sonic since joining the company in its early stages in 1993, including being general manager of the companys largest division, the Desktop Products Group (now the Roxio Division). Prior to joining Sonic, Habiger was a product manager at the Roscor Corporation, a leading provider of professional video, audio, multimedia and computer-based products and services. He was also a founder of Providence Productions, a media production company. Habiger holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a B.B.A from St. Norbert College in DePere, WI.
Jeff Schultz, Senior Vice President, Business Development, Clicker: Jeff leads all business strategy and development for Clicker, the complete programming guide for Internet television. Previously Jeff was the Co-Founder and CEO of Concert.TV, the first national live music television network. Over the course of six years, Jeff grew Concert.TV into one of the most successful on demand networks on television, reaching nearly 40 million households through distributors such as Comcast, Cox, Charter, Insight, DirecTV, Verizon and Dish. He also closed sponsorship deals with advertisers like Coca-Cola, AT&T, Visa, Levi's, Target, Starbucks, VW, Paramount, Warner Bros and Live Nation. Prior to founding Concert.TV, Jeff served in business development executive roles for NBC Internet and Quepasa.com. Jeff started his career as a corporate finance attorney for Linklaters in London after graduating from Georgetown Law School.
Michael Alexander, Strategy & Growth Initiatives, IBM Global Telecommunications Industry: Michael Alexander has more than 30 years of systems development experience in all aspects of the information technology business. Currently, Alexander is global solutions architect for SPST (service provider strategic transformation) in IBMs global telecom solutions. He consults with clients globally as an NGN telco subject matter expert (SME) and as a technical leader in VoIP solutions. In addition, Alexander is responsible for the development of telco technical NGN and specifically for VoIP solutions developed by IBM for U.S. clients AT&T, BellSouth, Qwest, SBC & Verizon. He was previously the IT architect profession executive and enterprise architecture practice lead for business innovation services, Australia/New Zealand. Before joining IBM, Alexander was technical partner & chief architect in the solutions integration practice at AT&T Solutions. He was responsible for the development of solution architectures that ensured successful engagements with all clients. Previously, Alexander worked at Unisys for 22 years and was the chief architect for Unisys global systems integration practice. He has previously spoken on digital media topics at TM Forum Americas and TM Forum Nice.
Jim Funk, Vice President, Development, Roku: Jim leads partnership and content relationship efforts for Roku. Jim was previously the VP of Business Development for Internet TV at Netflix. Prior to Netflix, Jim was VP Marketing & Co-Founder at Akimbo Systems. Previously Jim has held executive management positions at Macromedia and marketing positions at Apple. Jim has both a MBA and a bachelor's degree from Stanford University.
Stuart McKechnie, Director of Strategic Marketing at Zoran Corporation since 2004,has more than twenty-five years experience in high-tech electronics. He has directed projects that range from strategic planning through product specification, management, development and marketing to sales and customer support. His experience includes time with technology startups as well as more than fifteen years with the global giant Philips Electronics, serving at both Philips Semiconductors and Philips Consumer Electronics. His focus has been on high-volume products and services developed from leading edge consumer electronics technology, with a special emphasis on digital imaging. Stuart holds a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Southampton in the UK, where he specialized in analyzing space imagery.
Amy Friedlander Hoffman, President, Priority Digital Media: Amy Friedlander-Hoffman currently runs Priority Digital Media, a strategic consulting practice focused on content and distribution strategy across TV, broadband and mobile. Engagements include digital media strategy, entitlement of content across multiple platforms, broadband and cable content distribution, IPTV, VOD, rich media on-line advertising and software solutions for multiplatform content delivery and management. Most recently, Amy was the Senior Vice President, Programming for AT&T Operations. As AT&T entered the video market to compete with cable and satellite, Amy oversaw the interactive programming and convergence for Project Lightspeed, the initiative to expand the fiber-optics network deeper into neighborhoods to deliver AT&T U-verse TV, AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet, U-verse Enabled and voice over IP services. Amy was ultimately responsible for AT&Ts broadband programming, which included overseeing all online content negotiation and licensing, and execution of AT&T's broadband and three screen content plans for AT&Ts online services. Such services included Blue Room, Homezone, Broadband TV, U-verse OnTheGo and others. Preceding AT&T, Ms. Friedlander-Hoffman headed a consulting practice, Xanthum Partners, which helped clients from around the globe with content strategy, development and deployment. Ms. Friedlander-Hoffman was previously General Counsel and SVP of Business Development for Intertainer, the first VOD service delivered over both broadband and cable and helped the company raise over $100 Million from companies such as Microsoft, Comcast, Intel, Qwest, Sony, NBC and Thomson Consumer Electronics. She was responsible for negotiating content agreements with the major studios and programmers, distribution agreements with cable companies and telcos, and general technology ventures. In the Business Development role, Ms. Friedlander-Hoffman was responsible for international development and led her team to implement Intertainers strategy related to content distribution and software services. Prior to her tenure with Intertainer, Ms. Friedlander-Hoffman practiced corporate law at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Los Angeles. Ms. Friedlander-Hoffman holds a JD from the University of Chicago and a BA with honors from the University of Michigan.
