With the new generation of eReaders, Tablets and SmartPhones, the consumer always-on lifestyle – enabling free and paid relationships – is making for an ever expanded universe of content creation, consumption and ultimately an entirely new business model for the content industries.

Richard Gingras, Chief Executive Officer, Salon: Richard Gingras was appointed Chief Executive Officer in May 2009. Prior to joining Salon, he worked as an advisor to various technology startups and also served as an advisor on media product strategy to the executive team at Google from November 2007 through December 2008. From June 2002 through July 2007 he was founder, CEO and Chairman of Goodmail Systems and continued as Chairman through October 2008. From September 2000 through June 2002, he was an advisor to various technology startups including Audiomill (merged into Real Networks, April 2002), technology incubator ChanceTechAV, web applications platform provider Laszlo Systems, custom book publisher MyPublisher, and broadband applications platform developer Sugar Media. From January 1996 through January 1999, he was the founding Vice President, Programming and Editor-in-Chief of @Home Network and following that company's acquisition of Excite became Senior Vice President and General Manager of Excite@Home's consumer portal division through September 2000. In late 1995 he assembled the seed financing for Salon.com and has served as an informal advisor to the company. From September 1993 to January 1996 he was Group Product Manager, Online Services at Apple Computer. From the spring of 1992 through July 1993 he was Group Product Manager at the Peter Norton Computing division of Symantec Corporation. From September 1987 through May 1993 he was Chief Executive Officer of MediaWorks, Inc. Mr. Gingras holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Boston College.

Sarah Lumbard: Sr. Director, Product Strategy & Development, NPR: As Senior Director, Product Strategy and Development, Sarah Lumbard leads and manages all of NPR’s digital initiatives on existing and emerging platforms to ensure that the public can find and enjoy NPR and station content wherever they choose, now or in the future, regardless of platform. Today, these platforms include online, the mobile web, iPhone and Android applications for phone and tablet, podcasts, social media, and a suite of APIs. She also oversees business development for digital initiatives and distribution. Under her leadership, NPR has achieved triple-digit growth across all mobile platforms. Before joining NPR, Lumbard led product development, operations, and marketing at Webs.com, a DC-area start-up. Prior to Webs.com, Lumbard held multiple positions at WashingtonPost.Newsweek Interactive where she spearheaded a variety of revenue-generating digital initiatives that ranged from online classifieds to first forays into mobile. Lumbard also held positions responsible for business strategy at BrassRing and LEGI-SLATE, both The Washington Post Company subsidiaries. Lumbard holds an MBA from Instituto de Empresa (Madrid) and a BA from Pomona College.





Bill Jensen, Director of New Media, Village Voice Media: Director of new media Bill Jensen drives all content and development for Village Voice Media (VVM), a chain of 14 city-specific websites (LA Weekly, Village Voice, Miami New Times, SFWeekly) that has quadrupled in traffic since winter of 2007. After earning a master's degree in religious studies, Jensen was playing professional roller hockey and painting houses when his hockey fight zine The Fight Card was spotted by the Village Voice, which assigned him a story for the first issue of its Long Island Voice. He rose through the editorial ranks, before moving on to start the Long Island Press weekly as managing editor, where he hired Amy Fisher as a crime columnist. He came back to Village Voice Media in January of 2007, and has overseen all web and mobile platforms--and digital media now represents close to 40% of the chain’s overall revenue. Lee Shirani oversees digital magazines and newspapers at Google. Lee recently joined Google followin
g a stint at Skiff where, as Senior Vice President, he managed product strategy, business development and publisher relations for this Hearst-incubated e-reading and advertising start-up. Before joining Skiff, Lee was a Vice President at Sony where, among other things, he was responsible for developing, launching and running Sony's eBook service. Prior to Sony, Lee led business development and label relations at RioPort, an early, venture-funded digital music service, and he subsequently managed product strategy for All Media Guide, including the development and launch of the LASSO media recognition service. These efforts followed four years as a business affairs executive at DreamWorks SKG's film division. Lee started his career as an attorney at Allen, Matkins, Leck, Gamble & Mallory, where he practiced in the corporate litigation group. He graduated from UCLA and received his law degree from the University of California, Hastings.









Mark Ghuneim, CEO, Wiredset: Mark Ghuneim is a new media visionary with expertise in
social engagement, technology and behavioral trending as well as marketing for music, television and brands. Mark launched Wiredset in 2004 as a futuristic digital agency with the ability to incubate, create and execute all aspects of digital marketing. Recognizing the need for real time actionable data for his clients, Mark oversaw the development of a proprietary online tracking service that allows for unparalleled visibility into user behavior and market intelligence across a myriad of internet categories such as social networks, search engines and video sites. With headquarters in New York City and offices in L.A. and Seattle, Wiredset services top entertainment properties such as HBO, MTV, Bravo, Comedy Central, ESPN, Oxygen, Atom Films, Virgin Records, Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, and leading consumer brands such as Apple, Microsoft, Puma and Armani Exchange. Prior to starting Wiredset, Ghuneim spent 16 years with Sony Music USA, where he was most recently Senior Vice President for Online Services. In that role, he created and implemented online marketing campaigns and was responsible for Sony Music's online sales. As Senior Vice President of Online & Emerging Technologies for Sony's Columbia Records Group, Ghuneim was instrumental in the careers of artists such as Destiny's Child, Jeff Buckley, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Billy Joel. Mark has pioneered innovations in new media as the music industry has evolved during the past three decades. Before joining Sony, Ghuneim was Director of Press and Video Promotion for the legendary independent label Beggars Banquet Records. In the nascent days of music video, he was program director and production manager at the New York City video nightclub Private Eyes. Ghuneim frequently moderates panels at top industry gatherings and guest lectures at universities such as NYU's Stern and School of Music in New York City and UCLA in Los Angeles. He has worked as a mentor with the Center of Communications. His work in the Information Securtity Space was feature in Time Magazine and cited by the head of the FBI in addressing national infrastructure vulnerabilities. He has worked with NYCLU and ACLU addressing surveillance in public spaces and Ghuneim’s photographs have appeared in publications such as New Musical Express and the British Music Weekly. Known to many online as Mediaeater, Ghuneim reads 10 print newspapers each morning and 100s online each day in his RSS reader. He resides in the tranquil West Village in Manhattan.

Russell P. Reeder, President and CEO, LibreDigital, Inc.: Russell P. Reeder is responsible
for the vision and strategic growth at one of the fastest-growing digital media service companies serving the publishing industry. Experienced in driving new models for media and entertainment, most recently Mr. Reeder served as president and COO of NxTV, leading the third largest IVPOD provider in the hospitality industry, which was named to Inc. Magazine’s Fast 500. Previously, Reeder founded RightsLine, Inc., a company that provides the most-used legal copyright licensing system for Media and Entertainment. Reeder also held executive positions at Oracle, American Management Systems and Mobile Oil.
