It is the most popular personal accessory. What was thought to be absurd two years ago is now fait accompli. The Smartphone is emerging as a mini-computer, with a full range of communication and entertainment dynamics. Smartphones are for watching TV, watching friends on vacation and for watching movies. Smartphones are for texting, social networks and email and of course, for making a phone call. The Smartphone culture, what it is and what it will become, is only now beginning to be understood. Anthony Borquez, Senior Vice President for Online and Mobile Business Development, Konami Digital Entertainment: Anthony Borquez is responsible for identifying new business opportunities across multiple platforms, driving technology innovation and developing content strategy and digital distribution. Currently, Anthony is developing a strategy to leverage Konamis back catalog of products for the online market. His team is also evaluating digital distribution models that would enable consumers to purchase online and mobile content from a variety of digital platforms. Prior to joining Konami, Anthony was Founder and CEO of Blue Label Games, a Los Angeles-based online and mobile game developer acquired by Konami in 2006. Before starting Blue Label, Anthony co-founded Spacient Technologies, an enterprise mobile workforce management company that was later acquired by Trimble, an industry leader in GPS technology. Anthony began teaching at the University of Southern California in 1994, where he has designed multiple video game-related courses. He currently teaches classes in video game production, engineering, cinema, and business. In 2003, he started an annual high school summer program in Video Game Design that attracts students nationwide. Anthony received his undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees all from the University of Southern California.
Courtney Jane Acuff, Vice President, Director, denuo (a Publicis Groupe Company): With more than 200 million cell phone users in the U.S. alone, Courtney Jane Acuff's charge with Denuo is to deliver consumer insights and innovative media solutions in the wireless space. Prior to this role, Acuff stood at the helm of one of the mobile marketing industry's most influential media agencies, SMG Digits, where she harnessed the power, influence and potential of mobile communication. There she designed, researched and executed the first-ever domestic, consumer-centric wireless market analysis, providing insights into the medium's potential for relevant engagement. It was the first effort by an agency to understand consumers burgeoning use of existing applications, the content they access and how they want this technology to be a part of their lives. In 2006, Acuff will unveil results from a follow-up proprietary study that digs deeper into consumers' reactions to various mobile marketing tactics commonly found in today's marketplace. During her time at SMG Digits, Acuff executed work for clients such as Allstate, G4 and Kellogg's. Acuff maintains strong relationships with mobile back-end providers and is an active member of the Mobile Marketing Association. Her influence in the industry earned her a coveted slot on Advertising Age's "Twentysomethings" list in 2004. Acuff holds a bachelor's degree in political science as well as a bachelor's degree in communications, both from Lake Forest College in Illinois.
Nash Parker, Director, North American Strategy, Alcatel-Lucent: Nash Parker brings more than 20 years of telecommunications experience to his position as Director of the North American Strategy Team for Alcatel-Lucent. In this role, Mr. Parker is the lead strategist and primary liaison within for regions content, advertising, and gaming industry activity. Previously, Mr. Parker served as Director of Strategic Alliances for Alcatel-Lucent, where he lead the companys North American Strategic Solutions Group in support of the groups IPTV and Mobile TV initiatives. Prior to joining Alcatel-Lucent, Mr. Parker served as Manager of Business Development for Sony Computer Entertainment America, and as Regional Manager for the General Motors Corporation. Nash Parker holds a bachelor of arts degree from Kalamazoo College, and a master in business administration degree from Wayne State University.
Albert B. Chu, Vice President, Marketing & Alliances, ACCESS Systems Americas, Inc.: Albert Chu is responsible for developing business and marketing alliances on behalf of ACCESS CO., LTD. with leading companies in the telecommunications, consumer electronics and media industries. As VP, Marketing & Alliances, he drives the ACCESS Connect Ecosystem partner program, a global ecosystem of companies that are setting the market direction for innovative converged technologies and solutions developed by ACCESS and its partners. In addition, Chu is responsible for the marketing operations for ACCESS Systems Americas. Chu came to ACCESS from PalmSource, where he was vice president of business development. From 1996 to 2002, Chu was the business development vice president at AT&T Labs, where he brought emerging technologies to market. In addition, he headed the OneComm Project Office, overseeing the product management, research and development, operations and business development of a suite of unified communications services for AT&T business units and external service providers From 1982 to 1996, Chu was at Apple Computer, where his last position was vice president of corporate marketing alliances. His earlier responsibilities at Apple included product planning and strategy vice president in the Personal Interactive Electronics Division, marketing vice president in the New Media and Entertainment Division, and Japan business development director in Apple Pacific. He was responsible for the product marketing and product introduction teams for dozens of Apple's key products, including the Apple III, Newton, and Apple's localized products for the Japanese and Asia Pacific market. Chu has a degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University and completed the Advanced Executive Program at Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Dr. Andrew Hsu, Technology Strategist, Synaptics: Dr. Andrew Hsu has been the primary technical contact for Synaptics' worldwide customers in the handheld space since 1999. He joined Synaptics in 1996 and led the company's efforts into establishing a presence in the mobile handset market. Hsu developed Synaptics' ClearPad technology, a transparent sensor that can be mounted under curved plastic and glass. He led the marketing for ClearPad, resulting in the first production phone with a capacitive touchscreen, the LG Prada. Prior to his current role, Hsu was a scientist and a design engineer that helped develop the first single-chip TouchPad solution for Synaptics. Hsu holds a doctorate in neuroscience and a master's in computer and information science from the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor's in electrical engineering from Caltech.
Christy Wyatt, Vice President, Software Applications and Ecosystem, Motorola: As Vice President of Software Platforms & Ecosystem, Christy Wyatt leads the Software Platform, Ecosystem and Applications team. Christy and her team are responsible for the strategy and planning of software platforms, applications and experiences, and partners. This team enables the mobile devices product teams to develop and deliver rich experiences to customers through the development of compelling application and platform roadmaps and a strategic partner community. Prior to this role, Christy was responsible for the development and management of Motorolas strategic platforms, ISV and developer ecosystems. Christy and her global team drove platform definition, design, and development and cultivate a thriving developer environment through partner recruitment/management, tools development and support, ISV management and go-to-market programs. She currently serves as Motorolas board member for the Linux Foundation, LiMo Foundation, and Eclipse Foundation. Prior to joining Motorola, Christy served as Worldwide Developer Relations Director at Apple Computer where she was responsible for partners, global alliances and evangelism. Before her time at Apple, Christy was Senior Director at Palmsource Inc., responsible for their licensing and developer relations teams where she grew the developer community from 3,000 to 200,000 with more than 14,000 applications. Christy has also held key technical, sales and business development roles at Sun Microsystems, JavaSoft and ESRI.
Phil Asmundson, Vice Chairman and U.S. TMT Leader, Deloitte LL: Phil Asmundson has over 25 years of experience counseling and serving many of the worlds most prominent technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) companies. As Deloitte LLPs National Managing Partner for TMT, he is responsible for developing strategy for the practice, which includes over $1 billion in professional services revenues, and coordinating overall services to industry clients. These services span Deloitte U.S. member firms key functional areas consulting, tax, audit, and financial advisory and in combination help clients navigate the emerging and robust marketplace driven by the convergence of wireless, Internet technologies and content. He also serves as lead client service partner or advisory partner on some of the practices largest accounts. An audit partner by background, Phil has served clients in such areas as strategy evaluation/ development, mergers and acquisitions, accounting and auditing, control process design and performance enhancement. Phil has worked with virtually all sub-sectors of TMT including networking technology, optic fiber technology, cable operators, content providers, LECs, CLECs, IXCs, wireless and satellite. Phil is one of Deloittes designated thought leaders and is an active speaker and author on industry trends, challenges and opportunities. He is regularly quoted on emerging industry issues and has recorded several podcasts on predictions for the TMT industry. Phil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Oregon, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business.
Cameron Friedlander, VP, Director of Creative technology, Designkitchen: As the leader of Designkitchens technology practice, Cameron oversees Designkitchen's conception, development and delivery of innovative solutions across a range of media and technology platforms, and steers its teams to embrace the constant evolution of formats, functionality and convergence. Under Camerons tutelage, Designkitchen's web development and interactive teams create solutions that seamlessly integrate design and information while ensuring user experience and relevancy. Drawing on 10+ years of leadership and technology expertise, Cameron informs key project phases and deliverables including user experience, technology, business requirements, application logic, user pathway and site flow development, multimedia and video production, and UI/application technology integration. He brings new technologies and user experience models to every project-most notably, pervasive computing and real-time information flow experiences that are pushing the way a user interacts with data (NUI interfaces) and the devices are empowering the user.
