In the never-ending odyssey that is called the Music Industry, the road to future just keeps on getting longer and more complex. Perhaps it is because music is such an integral and creative personal experience, giving rise to an unlimited number of creative and disruptive forces, but as each year arrives, so too do about fifty new ways to deliver, listen, experience and pay for the music. In this session, we bring together a cross-section of creative players, from the traditional music label and P2P players, to companies with entirely new ways to reach the consumer offering new ways to listen and experience music all with completely new revenue models. John Loken is Co-Founder of BPM(brands+music), a strategy consultancy that helps consumer brands harness the emotional power of music to acquire, engage and retain customers. BPM is precipitating a return to the patronage model of centuries past, where corporations pay for the creation of the arts, leveraging media, retail, web and mobile channels to promote and distribute content. In addition to being a strategy consultant to media start-ups Total Immersion, myRMX, Zoomungous and sentfromEbove, John has been a senior marketing executive with Live Nation and Warner Music Group, working with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Morcheeba, and The Plain White T's. He sits on the executive board of GamerCoach.com, blogs as The Digiconomist, and holds an MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Management.





Loic Maestracci, Director of Achieve Marketing, LiveWire: As director of Achieve marketing at LiveWire Mobile, Loic Maestracci manages the Achieve marketing team and is responsible for driving service adoption and content usage for wireless operators through music marketing campaigns and promotions. He came to LiveWire Mobile thru the acquisition of Groove Mobile in March 2008. While at Groove Mobile, Maestracci expanded the company's music catalog from 5,000 audio full-track only songs to over 10 million assets with the addition of full-length music videos and ringtones by licensing music content from more than 20 record labels and digital distributors in North America, and Europe and Asia including Sony BMG, Warner Music, Universal, EMI Music, Beggars, V2, The Orchard and IODA. Prior to this, Maestracci held marketing positions at Truvideo, a provider of mobile video solutions, Mocca, a pioneer in mobile messaging services, United States Manufacturing Co./Seattle Systems and Apple Computer France.

Dave Ulmer, Senior Director, Entertainment Products, Motorola: Dave leads Motorola's
Digital Media Services marketing and is responsible for bringing new music, video and entertainment services to Motorola's customers worldwide. Dave is committed to facilitating and growing cooperation amongst the diverse stakeholders to expand the market opportunities for all of its valued stakeholders. Through his past roles as a founding member of SDMI and as a board member of OSTA (Optical Storage Technology Association), Dave has encouraged the acceptance of common standards and consumer awareness.








Nicholas Longano, CEO of Music Mogul, Inc.: A video game veteran, Nicholas Longano was President at Massive Incorporated and a key player in building the one billion dollars in-game advertising market. His extensive video game industry experience and relationships were the catalyst for the company's success, and led directly to long-term exclusive publisher production agreements for Massive with all most all of the industry's top publishers. He pioneered the unique greenlight process at Massive that was rigorously applied to any potential games for the network. In May 2006, Massive was acquired by Microsoft. Longano enjoyed four years as General Manager (Universal Interactive) and Head of Marketing for Vivendi Universal Games where he worked on Chronicles of Riddick, Hulk, Simpson's Hit and Run, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Files, Die Hard - Nakatomi Plaza, The Lord of the Rings, The Thing, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Jurassic Park, Metal Arms, Baldur's Gate, Half Life 2, Diablo II, Cat in the Hat, Hoyle franchise, re-launched Leisure Suit Larry, Fast and the Furious and 60 other console, PC and handheld titles. Longano has an extensive track record of launching successful franchises worldwide, and was President of MOJO Advertising in Los Angeles – where he formed a new video game division, with clients such as Atari, ESPN Games, VUG, and Groove Games. He was the former General Manager for Calvin Klein Cosmetics Canada and Latin America operations, and head of marketing, worldwide. Longano holds a Business Degree in Marketing from the David Syme Business School, and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

KamranV, CyKiK: A top graduate of the University of Southern California's prestigious Music Industry program in 2000, KamranV quickly made the jump from intern to Head of Production in the New Media division of Interscope Geffen A&M. His expertise set the standard for research-driven artist marketing for the entire roster. With the role of New Media rapidly expanding beyond the Internet, KamranV blazed new trails as IGA’s point person for new technology business development incorporating mobile phones, Video on Demand, and new physical formats such as DVD-Audio and Dual-Disc for which he served as Producer of many releases including grammy nominated albums from Keane, Nine Inch Nails, and the ground-breaking release of Beck's "Guero". After developing Universal’s explosive mobile music strategy at Interscope, KamranV inevitably co-founded Universal’s mobile division (UMM). In mobile, KamranV shaped the music business of the future with progressive campaigns such as the first-ever mobile exclusive in the D12/Virgin First Dibs program, Black Eyed Peas/Motorola Global VIPea program, events such as Cingular Sounds Live, and mobile marketing campaigns for Universal’s entire roster including Gwen Stefani, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, The Game, Eminem, Young Jeezy, The Killers, Fall Out Boy and Ne-Yo. Through KamranV’s corporate achievements, his holistic approach to the music business of the future never lost sight of the music and artists themselves. CyKiK, KamranV’s multi-faceted music firm manages artists, develops mobile/digital music strategies global brands and most recently founded and serves as President of the Spaceland Productions/CyKiK joint venture called Spaceland Recordings. Over 10 years ago the first show at club Spaceland was a "pre-Odelay" Beck and first Los Angeles concert of the Foo Fighters. Since then the Spaceland has produced intimate, cutting-edge concerts that never disappoint the venue's regular trend-setting audience of musicians, artists, journalists, film makers and the like. Spaceland Recordings is the premiere on-demand, globally distributed, live recording record label who's goal it is to capture the historical moments of the Spaceland venues. The "Spaceland Presents" series foundation is to develop its artists to achieve success beyond the walls of the relatively small Spaceland night clubs while maintaining a comfortable venue for artists to always call home.

Robb McDaniels
is the Founder, President and CEO of INgrooves, a digital media distribution and publishing company that provides various distribution and marketing services. San Francisco based INgrooves was founded in 2002 and has 70 employees. In March of 2008, Universal Music Group made a significant strategic investment in INgrooves and committed to utilizing INgrooves’ proprietary software platform for the distribution of some its North American’ repertoire to online and mobile retailers around the world. Prior to founding INgrooves, Robb worked in finance and focused on maximizing the value of intellectual property for a number of Fortune 500 companies. Robb graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and also spent time studying at the London School of Economics. Robb’s intimate knowledge of digital distribution technologies, mobile entertainment, marketing and promotion strategies in the digital world and TV and film licensing of independent music have resulted in several speaking engagements including: Digital Media Summit, London Calling, Music Matters (Hong Kong), Winter Music Conference, Dow Jones’ Consumer Technology Ventures Conference and the Sumer Music Conference. He has also been quoted in numerous news reports including: Billboard Magazine, San Francisco Business Times, Tech TV, CNN Headline News, San Jose Mercury News, The Online Reporter and was featured in Entrepreneur Magazine in December 2007.

Ted Cohen,
Managing Partner, TAG Strategic, Moderator: industry luminary and former,
Vice President, Digital Development & Distribution, EMI Music: As Vice President of Digital Development & Distribution for EMI Music, Ted Cohen oversaw worldwide digital business development for this "big five" record company, which includes labels such as Capitol, Virgin, Angel/Blue Note, Parlophone and Chrysalis. Under Cohen’s guidance, EMI has led the industry with its initiatives in new technologies and business models such as digital downloads, online music subscriptions, custom compilations, wireless services, high-definition audio and Internet radio. In addition to seeking out, evaluating and executing business opportunities for the company, Cohen serves as both a strategist and key decision-maker for EMI’s global new media and anti-piracy efforts. He has worked to establish company-wide policies, which have allowed EMI’s artists and labels a substantial advantage in the digital music arena. Cohen served previously as the Executive Vice President of Digital Music Network Inc., where he co-founded and served as Chairman of the Webnoize ’98 & ’99 conferences. He currently chairs MidemNet, an international music/technology conference convened in Cannes each year. Cohen also held senior management positions at both Warner Bros. Records and Philips Media. Additionally, Cohen lead two highly successful new media consulting operations, DMN Consulting and Consulting Adults, attracting clients such as Amazon.com, Microsoft, Universal Studios New Media, DreamWorks Records, Liquid Audio, Wherehouse Records/Checkout.com and several other entertainment, computer and new media organizations. A 25-year industry veteran, Cohen serves on the NARAS (Grammy) Los Angeles chapter Board of Governors, the Board of Directors for the Neil Bogart Memorial Fund, Co-chairs the new media arm of the T.J. Martell Foundation, and lends his time and talents to the Grammy In The Schools Program.
