David Gale, EVP New Media, MTV Networks Danila Koverman, Director, HBOlab at HBO Alexis Rapo, Vice President, ABC Digital Media John Gilles, Vice President Media & Entertainment, Method Suzanne Stefanac, Director, AFI Digital Content Lab, Moderator David Gale is Executive Vice President of New Media for MTV Networks. Since August 2006, Gale has been charged with establishing and running the division to incubate and create original programming, websites and unique experiences on new media platforms.
In May, 2009, New Media will premiere $5 Cover, a new project from Craig Brewer, the writer/director of the Academy Award winning movie Hustle and Flow. Steeped in the world of Memphis and based on stories of real working musicians, this project transcends traditional media by using new forms of storytelling to suit the most current technology and to provide access to the content on all platforms, taking full advantage of social networks and new media tools. Prior to starting MTV New Media, Gale served as Executive Vice President of MTV Films, overseeing the activities of MTVs feature film division from its inception in 1995 until August 2006. During his tenure, MTV Films established itself as a unique movie label with a slate of diverse and successful films that grossed more than a billion dollars in box office and opened 7 movies to #1 in their opening weekends.
Danila Koverman has recently been appointed Director of Development for the Creative Lab, the internal development and production organization for Break Media, the Internets premier entertainment community for men. Prior to Break, Koverman served as Director and founding member of HBOlab, overseeing creative development, production and operations for the group. HBOlab, which was acquired by Break Media in April 2009, has produced more than 400 videos, secured over 100,000 subscribers across all of HBOlabs internet channels, receiving more than 42 million views for its videos. Kovermans management and leadership experiences have been tied to successful start ups and re-launches of cable networks and shows, including: TV Guide Channel, SVP of Programming and Production; Style Network, VP Programming and Production; Extra, Supervising Producer; E! Entertainment Television, News Director and Supervising Producer; and Good Morning America/West Coast Bureau, Producer.
John Gilles is the Vice President of Media and Entertainment at Method, Inc. An internationally recognized expert on advanced television and Internet media, he specializes in new product development, programming development, content production and digital content business strategy for leading media companies. As a longtime cable TV and Internet executive he has led the development of many digital media products, including HD, VOD and broadband video channels, rich-media websites, interactive television applications, games, mobile applications and interactive program guides. Recent clients include Rainbow Media, Current Media, Ovation TV and the American Film Institute. A former VP of Interactive at Comcast-owned cable network G4TV, he also was the Director of Interactive Television at Paul Allen-owned TechTV.
Suzanne Stefanac, Director of the AFI Digital Content Lab, is a long-time technology strategist and innovator. From 1983 until 1994, she worked as a journalist, writing about digital issues for Macworld, PC World, Wired, and Rolling Stone. In 1995, Stefanac was founding editor of Macworld Online. In 1996, she was named an executive producer for MSNBC's THE SITE, an hour-long nightly program and companion website. In 1998, Stefanac co-founded RespondTV, an interactive television infrastructure company. In 2005, she authored Dispatches from Blogistan: A Travel Guide for the Modern Blogger, published by Peachpit/New Riders as part of their Voices That Matter series. Stefanac joined the AFI in 2006. She loves the bleeding edge.
