Thomas W. Hughes is Vice President of Worldwide Digital Media for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM). In his current role, Hughes is responsible for the company’s web sites, free-on-demand content distribution, mobile, anti-piracy, and clip and still licensing. With more than 20 years of experience working in television, film and interactive media, Thomas Hughes joined MGM in 2008 following a year with Scripps Newspaper Interactive as Director of Online Advertising for the Knoxville News Sentinel. From 2004 to 2007 Hughes served as Regional General Manager for Media General Interactive. Here he managed sales, content, marketing and business development of online properties for the company’s television and newspaper sites in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. Hughes also worked in the syndication division of Walt Disney’s Buena Vista Television helping launch the syndication of such hit shows as “Home Improvement” and “Bill Nye the Science Guy.” Early in his career, Hughes worked with Emmy award-winning producer, director, and choreographer, Kenny Ortega (This Is It, High School Musical 1-3). As Ortega’s personal assistant, Hughes worked alongside Ortega on Michael Jackson’s Bad Tour, “Dirty Dancing” (CBS television series), The 61st Annual Academy Awards, The 16th Annual American Music Awards and several major artist’s music videos. A South Carolina native, Hughes began his media career in local television news at the prestigious flagship NBC affiliate, WIS Television, while attending the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He currently resides in Manhattan Beach, California with his wife and two daughters.

Eric Gould Bear, Inventor of Telescopic Video & CEO, MONKEYmedia, Inc.: Communication Arts described Eric Gould Bear as "one of the most thoughtful and provocative interface and interaction designers working in the field.” He has been a leading force in the design of award winning human-computer interfaces since 1984, has published numerous articles on the subject, and is first-named inventor on nearly 100 software and hardware interaction patents and patent applications, including claims essential to telescopic advertising. Bear is an enthusiastic and inspirational leader, and has established user experience strategies for many well-known corporations. He is recognized for his collaborative approaches to creating easy-to-use technology and engaging digital media.








Jeff Meyer, Senior Vice President, Scripps Network: He is responsible for growing revenue streams for the company’s websites and emerging technologies such as video on demand and broadband. Scripps Networks is the parent company of HGTV, Food Network, DIY Network, FINE LIVING TV NETWORK, and Great American Country (GAC). In addition to strategic oversight of a 50-member interactive sales team, Meyer is responsible for tactical planning and the development of customized, one-to-one marketing concepts for Scripps Networks advertisers. Meyer and his team have created innovative advertising solutions for some of the world’s most respected brands. As a result, Scripps Networks has experienced strong growth in its online division and reached profitability goals a year ahead of schedule. Meyer is a 10-year veteran of Scripps Networks. He joined the sales team of HGTV when the network launched in 1994. The company promoted Meyer in 1998 and he assumed the day-to-day management of the company’s New York sales staff. Meyer also served as vice president of HGTV ad sales for the eastern region before his promotion to senior vice president in 2000. Meyer’s earlier industry experience includes a sales position at People magazine and tenure with two global ad agencies, Young & Rubicam and McCann-Erickson. Meyer is a graduate of Davidson College, where he earned a B.A. in economics. He currently resides near San Francisco in Corte Madera, Calif.

Bhavesh Patel serves as Vice President of Interactive Media for Fox Sports International (FSI), which encompasses emerging media platforms such as Internet, broadband, IPTV and wireless. In this role, Patel is responsible for the daily operations, business development, and editorial strategy for all interactive and digital media business of Fox Sports International. Patel oversees four Fox-branded network Internet sites currently serving approximately nine million unique users, broadband video, mobile marketing and content distribution and production of VOD and IPTV content. He also identifies and develops potential digital content partnerships and acquisition targets and negotiates digital programming rights for all FSI properties. Most recently, Patel served as the Director of Global Digital Media for the National Basketball Association, where he handled the digital strategy for all non-television platforms. This included negotiation of the league’s video syndication agreements with companies like Yahoo and YouTube, fantasy license renewals and the leagues’ first mobile WAP site in the United States. A graduate of New York University’s Stern School of Business in Finance and Information Systems, Patel is a founding board member of the non-profit South Asians in Media and Marketing Association (SAMMA). Patel was recently named one of the 25 Most Influential South Asians in Media by the 2009 Indian Film Festival. He currently lives in Los Angeles and along with being an avid hiker and alpine skier, he is conversational in Spanish, Gujarati and Hindi.

Edgar Villalpando, SVP Marketing, ActiveVideo Networks: Edgar joined ActiveVideo in 2008 and is responsible for overseeing the messaging and marketing of ActiveVideo® as a business- and consumer-facing brand. Edgar’s extensive media and consumer products experience includes executive positions with HBO and DIRECTV, and as general manager of THUMP, an agency that develops and markets branded content through a combination of traditional and interactive platforms. With HBO, Edgar served as vice president, new media and business development for the programmer’s international group, with specific responsibility for expanding linear and new media properties into new territories. Edgar previously had served as vice president, marketing for HBO, driving and managing international marketing and communications efforts for the HBO and Cinemax brands. With DIRECTV from 1999-2004, Edgar first served as director, marketing and advertising with a focus on supporting the satellite provider’s international programming within United States multicultural markets. Later, he served as director, advertising and brand management with responsibility for DirecTV’s domestic brands and associated markets. Edgar began his career in advertising in the agency world, working on blue-chip brands such as Ford, Miller Brewing, Mobil Oil, Wesson Oil, and several other accounts. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA.

Charles Meehan, Vice President of Advanced Advertising Sales, Comcast Spotlight: Charles “Chip” Meehan, Vice President of Advanced Advertising Sales for Comcast Spotlight, manages an advanced advertising sales unit dedicated to the growth of revenue through increased network tune-in business and the entertainment category, on a national footprint. These advanced advertising products include, the Comcast Media Center’s Headend in the Sky (HITS) programming distribution platform, a special use footprint-wide sales interconnect, full Comcast Digital Cable footprint and cross-MSO video on demand sponsorship opportunities, On Demand advertising (long-form and short-form content), Select On Demand Sponsorships, iGuide Banner ads on Comcast’s interactive program guide and ETV (telescoping). Prior to joining Comcast Spotlight in 2004, Meehan was employed by MTV Networks for over 12 years, where he supervised sales activities for Nickelodeon and its various brand extensions for the Los Angeles, Chicago, and Detroit sales offices. Earlier in his career, Chip gained experience in local independent television sales with DTLA, KCOP, and KCAL in Los Angeles. In 1989, he entered the cable industry by joining Adlink. Meehan holds a B.A. in economics from Connecticut College and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Adam Powers, Chair of Ecosystem Committee, DLNA, Director of Standards and Emerging Technology, Rovi Corporation: Adam Powers serves as the chairman of the Ecosystem Committee of the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA). In this position, Powers leads the efforts of the members of the digital living ecosystem in support of the DLNA’s charter of enabling content sharing between any variety of consumer devices and customer premises equipment. Powers is also director of standards and emerging technology at Rovi Corporation. In this role, he is responsible for standards and technology initiatives across Rovi Corporation’s product lines, including on-screen guides, metadata, Internet content and content sharing. Powers joined Rovi Corporation in January 2007 after Rovi Corporation acquired Mediabolic, where he had served as principal engineer and architect for the Connected Platform. Prior to this, Powers was co-founder and CTO of the IPTV home networking company, Coaxsys. Powers is a member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, and participates in standards activities at CableLabs and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). He attended California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo for Computer Engineering.


Arlene Zeichner, Principal, Selavy Associates: Zeichner has more than 25 years of experience in entertainment, new business models, market analysis and emerging technologies. She most recently managed film and television content alliances for Intel. Zeichner also has deep expertise in cable TV and mobile delivery platforms. With her experience in content production, business development and technology enablement, she offers a unique and valuable perspective on video content exploitation via multiple platforms to multiple devices. Her consulting clients span the spectrum of media players, including production, distribution and financing entities: studios, cable channels, production and post-production companies, VCs, Internet ventures, advertising agencies, and providers of interactive-TV tools. Zeichner has helped senior executives develop strategies for entering new markets, craft long-term strategies and retool existing ones to respond to market shifts. She has written marketing plans, financial and investor-oriented business plans and evaluated media-investment opportunities for VCs. Previously, Zeichner was Vice President, Programming and Business Development at Columbia TriStar Interactive (now Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment) where she developed and executed the plan for the studio's entry into the online business, including advertiser-supported original content, online games based on studio properties, and promotional sites for the studio's shows, films and videos.
