Mike Harris is Senior Vice President and General Manager, Connected Devices at DivX. He was previously CEO and co-founder of AnySource Media, guiding the development of its market leading Internet television streaming platform. In September 2009, AnySource was acquired by DivX and the AnySource technology became the foundation of DivXs Internet TV solution. A successful serial entrepreneur, Mike has led numerous venture-backed companies in the digital entertainment space. He was the founder and CTO of Ravisent Technologies Inc., a provider of market leading software technology to the digital entertainment industry. Mike oversaw the development and adoption of Ravisents technology by leading PC and consumer electronics manufacturers. After a successful IPO, Ravisents Consumer Electronics Division was acquired by STMicroelectronics in 2001, and Mike became its Group Vice President, Global Software Strategy. After STMicroelectronics, Mike served as President of Digital 5, a venture backed software provider enabling streaming media content within the connected home, and later became President of OpenPeak, a provider of software for home media control. Mike is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering.
Mark Lipsky, President, Gigantic Digital Cinema: Mark Lipsky has more than 25 years' experience in the film, cable television and technology industries where bold and innovative campaigns have been the hallmarks of his career. He currently serves as President of the newly launched Gigantic Digital (<http://www.GiganticDigital.com>www.GiganticDigital.com,) a broadband cinema that changes the paradigm of independent film distribution and exhibition. Gigantic made film-industry history in February 2009 with Must Read After My Death: for the first time ever, a film opened in theaters in New York City and Los Angeles, but also received a day-and-date national release over the internet. Gigantic Digital Cinema features high-quality, ad-free streaming video at a nominal ticket price and can be geographically targeted to avoid intruding on or cannibalizing concurrent bricks and mortar theatrical engagements. Gigantic Digital is part of the indie studio Gigantic Group, led by Brian Devine, which produces and distributes film and music. Lipsky is also CEO of GabSight LLC, an internet applications company he co-founded in August 2006. Previously, as VP for Business Development at Aronow Communications, Lipsky developed and launched ChannelBlast, an online TV network, as well as the networks first nightly broadcast, NewzViewz. Lipsky served as Chief Strategy Officer for independent film company Lot 47, Inc where his primary responsibilities included business development and the strategic evolution of the companys digital strategies. At Singingfish.com, (now an AOL company,) he served as the multimedia search companys Vice President for Strategic Relations and Marketing. Lipsky has also served as Director of Consumer Marketing for cable TV networks Bravo and The Independent Film Channel; Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Prestige, a division of Miramax Films; and Senior Vice President, Domestic Distribution and Marketing for Miramax Films. Recognized as an advocate of artistic freedom, Mark Lipsky has rallied successfully against censorship in the motion picture industry, most notably against the MPAA's "X" and "NC-17" ratings. He has been a panelist and moderator for events sponsored by The American Film Institute, The Sundance Institute, the New York Bar Association, The Independent Feature Project, The New School for Social Research, New York Women and Film, the American Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival and others.
Doug Sylvester, Chief Strategy Officer, Avail-TVN: Doug Sylvester is responsible for managing Avail-TVN's day-to-day operations. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Sylvester was President, COO and a member of the Board of Directors of iFILM, an online media company. Prior to iFILM, Mr. Sylvester was President of The Cottage Group, a private venture capital organization. He joined The Cottage Group after five years at E! Entertainment Television, where he created and managed the New Business Development and Corporate Planning departments. Mr. Sylvester was also the co-founder of E! Online, E!'s Internet business, and served as the company's senior executive. Mr. Sylvester began his entertainment and media career at New Line Cinema, where he managed all West Coast business development activities. Prior to New Line Cinema, he worked at Bankers Trust Company in New York and Hayes Microcomputer Products in Atlanta.
Larry Smith is the Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development at MOD Systems. Larry Smith has more than 25 years of experience in the entertainment, technology and retail industries throughout North America and Europe, and most recently has spent time working on projects in video production and online advertising development and distribution. Smith served as the COO of North America at Archos, Inc., a manufacturer of small storage devices for mobile computing, and as the Worldwide Managing Director of Marketing and New Business Development for Archos, SA. He has also held positions with On Command Corporation and was a key sales, distribution and content acquisition player in the start and/or relaunch of EchoStar's Dish Network, Request Television, The Home Shopping Network and CNBC.
Jason Rubinstein, GM/VP Digital Media, redbox: Jason Rubinstein leads digital media initiatives for redbox, a wholly owned subsidiary of Coinstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSTR), which offers new release DVDs through its network of conveniently located, self-service kiosks. Redbox is available at more than 18,000 locations nationwide, including select McDonalds restaurants, leading grocery and convenience stores, and Wal-Mart and Walgreens. Jason's 20-year career spans the video entertainment, games and music industries. Prior to joiningredbox, Jason was at Motorola where he had global responsibility for entertainment (video and games) in the mobile devices business. Jason was also a co-founder of PlayFirst), and currently serves as a board advisor to BringIt (www.bringit.com). Prior to joining Motorola, Jason held GM roles at Ubisoft (www.ubi.com) and streaming media start-up Riffage. At Intel he oversaw games and music industry market development during the first three generations of the Pentium processor. Prior to Intel, Jason held senior marketing and business development roles at Total Entertainment Network (pogo), DreamWorks Interactive, and Sierra On-Line/The Imagination Network (sold to AT&T, then AOL). Prior to joining Sierra On-Line, Jason worked in the music industry at CBS Records and Warner Music Group. Jason holds a BA from New York University and an MM (Master in Music) from Yale University.
Steve McKay, Chief Executive Officer, Entone: Steve has focused his career on broadband multimedia services for the communications industry for nearly twenty years. Prior to joining Entone, Steve was the CEO of Ion Global, a pan-Asian systems integrator. Under his direction, Ion Global grew from 50 people in 1 country to over 1000 people in 10 countries. As part of a merger, the company went public on NASDAQ and later completed a $400M+ secondary offering. Steve also spent more than 12 years with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting). While at Accenture, Steve worked with some of the world's leading CATV operators and telcos on their broadband and interactive television strategies and deployments. Steve has sat on more than 20 company boards. He received his MBA with distinction from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
Mark Ely, Executive Vice President of Strategy: Mark Ely joined Sonic Solutions in 1992. Mr. Ely has served as executive vice president of strategy at Sonic Solutions since April 2005. A leader in digital media software, Sonic develops products ranging from the advanced authoring systems used to produce Hollywood DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles to award-winning consumer applications and services. During his tenure, Mark has played a leading role in partner relations as well as mergers and acquisitions. Currently, Mark is directing Sonics Premium Content Group, which is focused on delivering high-quality digital entertainment to a broad range of consumer electronics. Mr. Ely received a B.A. from Middlebury College and an M.B.A. from the Anderson School at UCLA.
Bradford C. Auerbach, Digital Entertainment Services, Hewlett-Packard Company: Mr. Auerbach is a senior entertainment executive with extensive and unique expertise in production, content acquisition, Intellectual Property law and licensing, on a global level. He is currently handling Strategic Business Development with Hewlett-Packard for the mammoth Retail Custom Publishing project. He was the prime architect for Hewlett-Packard in structuring the entertainment industrys first DVD manufacture-on-demand agreement with a major Hollywood studio. Mr. Auerbach has had success in structuring many groundbreaking deals with a diverse range of rightsholders, including NFL, HBO, MTV, Olympics Committee, Screen Actors Guild, every Hollywood studio, Peter Gabriel, ESPN, Sesame Street/CTW, among numerous others. He has deep familiarity with each aspect of the media business, having sat on all sides of the deal-making table, on behalf of mobile, cable, satellite, Internet, hardware, software, distribution and production companies. He has held positions as Senior Legal Counsel with Qualcomms MediaFLO initiative, General Counsel for Philips Media (a division of Royal Philips Electronics, Netherlands) and Head Counsel, Business Affairs for Astro/MEASAT (Malaysia), the premier direct broadcast satellite operator in South East Asia. As the lead attorney of Business Affairs for Programming at Starz/Encore he structured the pay television industrys largest Hollywood studio output deal, and the first to include SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) rights. Mr. Auerbach started his entertainment media career at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, where he handled business affairs for the industrys leading home video company, including the companys first copy protection deal and the companys first Pay Per Transaction deal. He has published dozens of entertainment articles worldwide (including his Law Review article Biotechnology Patent Law in Britain and the United States), and he has presented his views at numerous industry conferences across the globe. Mr. Auerbach helped form the Digital Entertainment Group, the industry-wide consortium that was the primary catalyst for the launch and spectacular success of the DVD format. He was a Founding Board Member of the Electronic Software Association, which not only established the E3 video game conference but remains dedicated to serving the business and public affairs interests of companies that publish video and computer games. He was the Founding Executive Director of the DVD-Audio Council, and has consulted to a handful of cutting edge clients. His past engagements include Warner Music Group, Playboy, Flexplay, Macromedias Mobile group and the Getty Museum. He holds a patent with Qualcomm relating to mobile phone media technology.
