Internet Video, Advertising & Marketing: The Next Generation of Consumer Reach Video on the Internet has finally passed the critical threshold of acceptance by the advertising and marketing communities as a more than viable alternative to traditional media. Internet delivered video has not only entered the advertising space, it has invaded it and in a very short number of years, Internet delivered video will be a dominant entertainment and communications consumer medium. The scary part for traditional media, Internet delivered video may end up on a PC, a mobile device or on a TV and for the advertising and marketing industries, an emerging and maturing delivery system to an ever elusive audience is exactly what they are looking for. Elizabeth Bleser, Managing Director, Incognito Digital: ncognito is focuses on the Media & Entertainment industry with services including Media Buying, Advanced Rich Media Development and Content Syndication & Distribution. Bleser helped found the agency with Managing Partners in May of 2004 and today, she holds the principal management role in business development, client services and all day-to-day operations. Under its parent company, IndustryNext, Incognito Digital focuses on the development and creation of full-scale, integrated digital marketing programs. Bleser established the current client base, which includes Bloomberg, The Medicine Shoppe, MyNetworkTV, Wetv, SPEED tv, FX Networks, American Association of Orthodontists, and 20th Century Fox. Prior to Incognito, Elizabeth served as Sales Director for Viewpoint Corporation (now Enliven Marketing Technologies Corporation), where she developed online advertising solutions for both agency and client-side marketers and helped to develop a go-to-market strategy around their advanced rich media tracking system. Elizabeth spent many years in the digital publishing space in various Sales & Marketing roles throughout AOL/Time Warner. During her time at Warner Bros. she supported the launch of Entertaindom.com, the studios foray into the development of branded digital entertainment content while working with clients across multiple verticals including CPG, Auto, and Entertainment. In addition, while at Time Inc. New Media she guided some of the first cross-platform programs between print and digital properties including Fortune, People, Entertainment Weekly and Money. Elizabeth lives in Chicago with her husband and three children.
Brian Shin, founder and CEO of Boston-based Visible Measures, the independent third-party measurement firm for Internet video publishers, advertisers, and viral marketers. Visible Measures provides major brand advertisers and their agencies with an integrated view across all campaign components, including syndicated, social, and paid video placements. Brian has co-founded several successful Internet software companies, including web-based collaboration technology vendor Creative Aspects, which was acquired by Medsite Inc. (now WebMD); and The Cambridge Intelligence Agency, a Web-based e-mail response management solution provider that was acquired by marketing services company MSGi. Brian also co-founded technology strategy consulting firm Infraweb, Inc., where he served as President, and was an early member of the team at Allaire Corp. which went public in 1999 and was subsequently acquired by Macromedia. Brian enjoys trying new foods with his wife, occassionally updates Twitter and his blog, holds an undergraduate degree from Tufts University, and earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management as part of the dual-degree Harvard-MIT Biomedical Enterprise Program.
Sean Morgan, CEO, Critical Media, Inc: In 2002 Sean Morgan founded Critical Media Inc., a company at the forefront of real-time broadcast media capture, search, syndication and information services. The company is made up of two divisions: the Information Services Group, which markets Critical Mention -- a dynamic real-time business intelligence platform, and the Broadcaster Services Group, an online video ecosystem that allows media organizations and content owners to leverage and monetize their video assets. Mr. Morgan's first venture in syndication was with Pinnacor (formerly ScreamingMedia), the largest text syndication service on the Internet for newspapers, magazines and wire services. As a founder of Screaming Media, Mr. Morgan was instrumental in fundamentally changing the business models for online syndication. Within two years of building the business, the service already had partnerships with more than 2,000 text news providers. Mr. Morgan represented the company with industry analysts and investors, and helped raise more than $65 million in various funding rounds. Pinnacor debuted on the NASDAQ in August 2000 and was eventually sold to MarketWatch, Inc. (now a part of News Corporation) for more than $100 million.
Waikit Lau, Co-Founder and President, ScanScout: Waikit has extensive experience building emerging media businesses and technologies. In his role as Co-Founder and President of ScanScout, Waikit leads the companys vision and growth. Prior to co-founding ScanScout, Waikit was the Director of Strategy and Business Development at Scientific Atlanta (a division of Cisco) where he helped lead product strategy for next-generation media delivery platforms. Before Scientific Atlanta, he was an investor at Bessemer Venture Partners, investing in and working with early-stage technology companies. Prior to serving as a VC, Waikit co-founded Photo.net, one of the largest online photo-databases and served as its VP of Product and Business Development. He has also consulted to the CTO and COO of Technology at Merrill Lynch in the technology strategy and operation areas. Waikit holds Bachelors degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Finance from MIT and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is based in Boston, MA.
Peggy Fry, Senior Vice President, Clearspring Technologies: Peggy Fry is Senior Vice President at Clearspring Technologies, managing the companys business development and client services business. Previously, Ms. Fry was Vice President of Ad Sales for Netflix where she developed and launched an online and offline targeted advertising platform for the entertainment community. From 2002-2005, Ms. Fry served as president of Smashing Entertainment, a film production and co-financing company she helped create to produce films for television and theatrical distribution. The companys productions have appeared at the Sundance Film Festival and on Showtime, as well as direct-to-DVD. From 1997 to 2002, she held a series of increasingly senior sales positions at America Online, including vice president of interactive marketing for the AOL Entertainment Group. In this role, she was responsible for AOLs studio relationships covering both filmed and home entertainment. Earlier in her career, Ms. Fry held sales positions at several large print publishing concerns, including Hearst Publishing, Family Media and Lang Communications.
Jack Rotherham, SVP, Strategic Sales and Partnerships, Metacafe: Jack Rotherham leads Metacafes work with Fortune 1000 companies interested in tightly integrating their brands into the online entertainment experience and employing social media as a marketing vehicle. Jack joined Metacafe from AOLs Platform A, where he oversaw strategic planning and monetization initiatives for video, social media and high-reach properties. Before making the leap to digital media, Rotherham spent nearly 20 years in the magazine publishing industry. Previous positions include founding partner and publisher of C, a regional luxury lifestyle magazine and web site, publisher of Teen People and its online, broadcast and mobile extensions, and vice president and publisher of Rolling Stone, where he oversaw two record-breaking years in ad revenue. Jack holds a bachelors degree in communications from Fordham University.
John Piccone, Senior Video President of Sales and Business Development, HealthiNation: John Piccone is senior video president of sales and business development for HealthiNation, the premier health video company that educates and inspires people to make healthier choices. HealthiNations original programming includes disease and condition education as well as lifestyle, diet tips and personal stories. Through its premium partner network and syndicated distribution capabilities, HealthiNation videos can be seen by over 40 million unique health users online and 25 million cable TV homes. John brings over 14 years of cross-platform advertising, media and technology experience to HealthiNation. Prior to joining HealthiNation, John was a founding member of 24/7 Real Media, a leading interactive advertising services company where he served in a range of roles, including business development, sales management and product management. John has been generating marketing efforts on behalf of publishers, agencies and advertisers through media representation, search engine marketing, ad serving, analytics and video management services in Europe and the United States since 1994. Previously, John was a founding member of Publicitas Advertising Services, a clearinghouse for national newspaper advertising, acting as Technical Sales Representative of its proprietary advertising technology and services. A graduate of Allegheny College, John enjoys his spare time with his wife and two children.
Scott Cohen, President, Dimestore Media: Scott Cohen is spearheading development of a newly funded venture in interactive advertising. Dimestore Media created and distributes a social rich media platform called VideoInsights that connects consumers with branded entertainment. DSM developed a game using TV commercials in a quiz-like format. People watch an ad, and then answer questions about it. Dimestore Media is changing the way consumers view & interact with advertising on the Web. Dimestore Media has developed an Internet advertising platform using video and TV commercials in a quiz-like format. Dimestore recently introduced its newest version of VideoInsights, a rich media platform that connects consumers with branded entertainment. VideoInsights and Dimestore Media are at the leading edge of changing the way consumers view and interact with advertising on the Web. Scott has accumulated over thirty years of experience in strategic deal making, negotiation and leadership, playing a major role in developing businesses during the growth of the Internet in the USA and Europe. Prior to Dimestore, Scott was a founding partner in Red Tie Media, an interactive media consulting company. He has demonstrated success in both corporate and entrepreneurial environments, most recently in media, interactive marketing, and entertainment. As a co-founder and senior level executive, Cohen was critical to the success of two IPO´s over the past nine years: 24/7 Media, which sold to WPP Advertising Group for $649 million, and LivePerson (NASDAQ: LPSN). Scott is also the former President of GameTrust, a leading developer and provider of Internet game software and technology, which was acquired by Real Networks. Scott earned his MBA in 1988 from the William E. Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester, after ten years in commercial and investment real estate. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of LeadFusion and is a sought-after speaker and panel moderator at industry conferences for interactive media and Internet advertising.
