For the uninitiated, the Mini-App or widget is miniature application or website that resides as a component element on a users desktop, social media page or mobile device. A button on a user desktop may open multiple Apps, so that in a flash, mini-apps open on the desktop to reveal up-to-the minute stocks, the weather, airline arrivals, a dictionary, your photo album virtually anything, any data type - can be formatted into a widget and placed on your desktop. Once the user gets the hang of it, life without mini-apps is impossible. Mini-apps are as addictive as email. Mini-Apps are your mini-obsessions managed and delivered as desired. Pauline Malcolm-John is Director of East Coast Sales at Slide Inc., where she is responsible for managing strategy, growing advertising revenue, and building and leading an East Coast sales team. Before joining Slide in 2008, Pauline was Director of National Advertising Sales at Condé Nast Business Group, Digital. In this position, she managed annual advertising revenues in excess of $17 million and oversaw a team of 16 senior sales executives and sales support specialists. Previously, she served as senior regional sales manager at MySpace, where she developed revenue-generating partnerships with key consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands such as Kraft Foods. Pauline has also held sales positions at Rhythm New Media, About.com and Shopping.com. She graduated from Baruch College with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing and a minor in computer science.
Farid Chaouki, creative director, MRM Worldwide. Farid is a digital branding specialist who began his advertising career in 1999 at Boo.com, the famous international fashion site in Paris where he was a Web designer. His multi-discipline knowledge spans interactive media, Internet technologies, broadcast TV, 3D animation and post production. He served as Blue Goos Digital Creative Director working with clients including, The Coca-Cola Co., Russian Standard, Unilever, Audi and HP. In 2003, he helped launched and still works on, the online lifestyle and creative magazine Mooch.
Kumar Doshi, Branded Entertainment and Experiences Team, Microsoft: Kumar Doshi is a part of the Branded Entertainment and Experiences Team at Microsoft. He heads their international efforts to build innovative advertising programs that push the frontier for digital advertising and branding. Mr. Doshi and his team work with global marketers to imagine, create and execute experiential marketing solutions that enable consumers and brands to have meaningful relationships by taping the massive MSN consumer audience and latest Microsoft technologies. Mr. Doshi has been with Microsoft for over 5 years. Before joining Microsoft, Mr. Doshi worked at Intel as part of the Intel Inside program and at BEA Systems where he helped create their ingredient, cooperative branding program. Mr. Doshi has a Bachelors of Science from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from M.I.T. Sloan School of Management. Kumar Doshi lives in New York City and enjoys tennis, music and the occasional philosophical debate.
Lisa Marino is the VP of Sales for RockYou leading all brand sales initiatives for the company. Prior to RockYou Lisa was the National Sales Manager for eBay Motors calling on all major automotive OEMs as well as their franchise dealers. Prior to eBay, Lisa co-founded Cima Systems, a leading fixed operations CRM provider for auto dealers. Lisa started her career in Silicon Valley as a technology M&A investment banker for Montgomery Securities. She earned her MBA from Stanford University School of Business and a BS in Finance from the Wharton School.
Michael Lazerow, Chairman & CEO Buddy Media: Michael is a serial entrepreneur who has co-founded four successful internet-based media companies. He has a passion for creating, managing and growing companies from the ground up. Michael is currently the chairman and CEO of Buddy Media, Inc. Launched in 2007, Buddy Media develops and promotes social advertising campaigns that support interaction between people and brands. Buddy Medias unique Brand Advocate Process is the only comprehensive approach to social media advertising that includes strategy, development, promotion and accountable monitoring of its branded apps. Michael's first foray into entrepreneurship came with the founding of University Wire, an Associated Press-like network of more than 700 student-run newspapers that is now owned by CBS Corp. He next founded GOLF.com, which was purchased by Time Warner's Time Inc. division in January 2006. Michael led GOLF.com from a start-up to a multi-million dollar profitable golf media company. Michael lives in New York City with his wife, Kass, two sons, Myles and Cole, and daughter Vivian. Michael graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. with a B.S. and M.S. in Journalism in 1996.
Shaukat Shamim, CEO & Co-Founder, Permuto: Shaukat is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Permuto, Inc. Permuto is an online advertising platform targeted in the ecommerce shopping space. Permuto is funded by Rembrandt Venture Partners, Onset Ventures, SoftTech VC and individual investors like Reid Hoffman (Founder, CEO LinkedIn), and Sridar Iyengar (BOD member Infosys). Prior to Permuto Shaukat founded Rhythm NewMedia, an industry leading startup that pioneered mobile video advertising. Shaukat was the member of the Board of Directors and played the role of CTO and Senior Vice President of Business Development. Rhythms solution is successfully deployed with leading mobile operators like Sprint, Verizon Wireless, 3-UK, Telecom Italia, Orange UK, T-Mobile-UK, and Vodafone Spain. Rhythm has partnership with top 50 brands like Unilever, Cisco, Microsoft, Nike, BMW, Coke, Pepsi, Bank of America, Jeep, Nissan, Visa, Cannon, Land Rover, etc. Rhythm also has strong business relationships with major agencies worldwide like OMD, MindShare, Ogilvy, Carat, Publicis, Universal McCaan, etc. Shaukat also successfully completed distribution agreements with over 200 media partners like Sony Pictures, EMI Music, BBC, ABC News, ITN, A&E, iFilm, CBS, ITN, NorthOne, Aardman, Weather channel, IMG Media, Endemol and others. Prior to Rhythm, Shaukat was a Venture Partner and CTO of NeoCarta Ventures, a $300m early stage venture firm focused on technology investments in internet, media, and wireless. Shaukat was Responsible for developing investment and technology strategies for new markets and identifying early stage companies in wireless, internet, media and entertainment. Additionally, was responsible for providing operational and technical guidance to the portfolio companies. Shaukat came to NeoCarta in July 2002, having been at Yahoo! for 5 years. Joined as an early employee, Shaukat pioneered the development of the instant messaging platform - Yahoo Messenger - which ultimately boasted one of the worlds largest online communities. Shaukat was responsible for the architecture, product vision and long-term product roadmap for Yahoo Messenger and played key roles in the industry-wide coordination over IM standards.
Brian Colbert is the Director of Mobile Advertising Sales for ESPN where he is charged with building relationships with advertisers for ESPNs mobile product portfolio (WAP, SMS, Video). Prior to joining ESPN, Colbert was the Director of Advertising Sales at Music Choice where he built the sales team and oversaw the companys sales efforts with VOD, broadband and mobile. Before Music Choice, Colbert was with MTV for several years where he was the Director of Marketing for MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com and also a senior sales executive for mtvU when the network was launched in 2003. Brian holds a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University.
Sun Jen Yung, Managing Director, Nightwood Capital: Sun's experience of over seventeen years in investment banking includes corporate finance coverage of Media (cable and entertainment), Digital Media, Internet and software companies at Oppenheimer, TD Securities, Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers as well as equity research at Lehman Brothers. Over the years Sun has represented a wide range of clients in these sectors encompassing a variety of equity, debt and merger & acquisition transactions including Adelphia Communications, Artificial Life, Comcast Corporation, Digital Domain, Global Traffice Network, iVillage, Liquid Audio, Mediaplex, Scientific-Atlanta and TiVo. She also spent two years at TCSI in Berkeley, CA in Business Development and Finance. Sun graduated from Columbia Business School in 1988 with an MBA in Finance and a B.A. in Economics and International Studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN in 1984.
