Embracing the Personalized Consumer - Entertainment, Technology and Commerce - From the Digital Home to the Mobile Platform
The consumer lives in three digital environments, the home, work and mobile experiencing what we might call the always connected, digital lifestyle. In this session, we will address how the technology, the content providers and developers have adapted themselves to the evolving needs of the digital lifestyle, serving a home-based media, a worked based media and mobile media. Whether its a wirelessly connected home with set-tops, PCs, HDTVs and phone devices; a broadband mobile device, a fully loaded media friendly car, a broadband workspace or public space, the consumer is connected all the time, sending or receiving information and content. In this session, we will explore what it means to create and enable that fully connected universe.

Ken Wirt, Vice President, Consumer Marketing, Cisco: Ken Wirt joined Cisco in 2007 as the Vice President of Consumer Marketing. From 2001 to 2006 Ken was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Product Marketing at Palm Inc where he developed and launched the Zire and Tungsten line of handhelds as well as the Treo 650 and Treo 700 line of smartphones. In the late 90s, Ken was the founder and CEO of Riffage.com, a leading independent music site. Previously Ken held senior marketing positions at Diamond Multimedia, Apple, NEC and Atari. Ken has pioneered the development and launch of several new categories of electronic products including: home computers (Atari), CD-ROM drives (NEC), the Newton PDA (Apple), and the Rio MP3 player (Diamond). Wirt has an MBA from Stanford and an undergraduate degree in The Psychology of Kinetic Media from the University of Michigan.
Toffer Winslow, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Choicestream: To ffer Winslow, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, ChoiceStream: Toffer Winslow is responsible for the sales and marketing organizations as ChoiceStream continues to meet the demand for personalization products. Prior to joining ChoiceStream, Toffer was the Vice President of Product Management and Product Marketing at RSA, The Security Division of EMC. Before joining RSA, Toffer led product management, marketing and business development for the largest business unit of Empirix, and was also vice president of marketing at a pioneering Java development platform start-up. He is a graduate of the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration and the University of British Columbia.
Scott Smyers, Senior Vice President, Network and Systems Architecture Division, Platfor m Technology Center of America, Sony Electronics: Scott Smyers joined Sony Electronics in 1994, and is now Senior Vice President of the Network and Systems Architecture Division of Sony Electronics Inc. More than 20 years ago, Scott made the jump from academic research to industry, where he has since been very active in the areas of standardization, technology research and product development. Scotts particular area of focus is system architecture, system I/O and interfaces. In the 1990's, he performed pioneering work in the area of IEEE 1394 and standards related to digital transmission (IEC61883). Through his leadership as chairman of the 1394 Trade Association's AV Working Group over the course of seven years, Scott has served a pivotal role in bringing about a suite of standards that define consumer device discovery and control. He also founded and chaired the Digital Transmission Discussion Group which resulted in the so-called "5C" a.k.a "DTCP" copy protection system. Scott has served as CTO and member of the Board of Directors of the 1394 Trade Association, and on the UPnP Steering Committee. He now serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) and President of the DLNA Corporation, as well as Co-Chairman of the Management Committee of the Marlin Developer Community and Director of the Coral Consortium.
Richard Bullwinkle, Chief Evangelist, Macrovision: Richard Bullwinkle is well known i n the digital networking entertainment industry from his previous roles at Digital Networks North America, Inc. (DNNA), TiVo and Mediabolic. As Vice President of Product Management, Richard was a chief evangelist for Mediabolic, which was acquired by Macrovision in January 2007. He was also previously a senior member of TiVo's product marketing team. Richard helped create and develop the TiVo products and then played an instrumental role in helping create the well-known publicity around the TiVo products and brand. At DNNA, a wholly owned subsidiary of D&M Holdings U.S., Inc. and the parent company of Rio Audio and ReplayTV, Richard was a senior member of Rio Audio's Product Marketing team. He helped create and market some of the most popular MP3 players in the US. At ReplayTV, he was in charge of the user experience, including software and interface design. Richard graduated from Rollins College in Florida with degrees in English and music.
Carlos Montalvo, VP, Connected Entertainment business, HP: The Connect Entert ainment global business unit drives HPs strategic intent to digitize the home and provide compelling and intuitive experiences in the home and on the go. Over the last 20 years Carlos has been at the forefront of the shifting digital landscape working with companies such as Apple, Xerox and Virage where he served as VP and GM of the Interactive Media and QuickTime Group. Carlos joined HP directly from Jaman, Inc. an online community and social network that delivers world cinema over broadband. Carlos served as SVP of Operations where he developed the overall business, content and positioning strategy for www.jaman.com. Carlos leads the combination of marketing strategy, communications, and product management to help continue momentum for HPs growth in the connected entertainment business. Carlos studied Bio-engineering and Political Science at the University of California and began his career in the public sector, serving at the National Science Foundation and as a Presidential Appointee at the US Solar Energy Bank.
Dale (Ty) Roberts, Chief Technology Officer, Gracenote: Ty Roberts is widely recognized as one of the inventors of enhanced CD technology and is accredited with produci ng the industrys first enhanced CDs. He joined Gracenote in November of 1998 after the company acquired ION, a multimedia and music technology company that he founded in 1993. Roberts serves as Gracenotes chief technology strategist, providing technology direction and overseeing the creation of products and services that leverage the power of the Gracenote database to deliver information services. While at ION, Roberts produced the recording industrys first enhanced audio CD titles, including David Bowies "Jump" and "Headcandy" from Brian Eno. He was the companys lead technologist and innovator in adding multimedia content to traditional audio CDs. ION was also widely recognized as a leading provider of enhanced CD production tools utilized by recording and multimedia development companies. In September 1993, Bertlesmann Music Group created the first interactive record label after acquiring a 50 percent interest in ION. Prior to founding ION, Roberts was a founder and senior manager of LightSource, a software development company that produced multimedia and graphics editing software. Previously, he was a senior engineer at Pixar, where he created several award winning, Apple-based music applications including "Studio Session" and "Jam Session."
Michele McGarry, VP, Business Development, ThinkAnalytics: Michele leads direc t sales, partner and OEM development efforts for ThinkAnalytics in North America. Michele has spent over 15 years working with emerging technologies and markets. Much of her career has been in corporate computer security helping global companies protect their systems and information, including 5 years with Trident Data Systems (now General Dynamics). She lived in London, England in 1997-1998 to establish a European presence and distribution channel for Worldtalk Corporation, a then leader in email security and encryption. She also dedicated several years developing new advertising revenue streams for new media with Quokka Sports and at eZula (now Kontera), creating a platform for contextual advertising. Michele holds a Bachelor of Science from Santa Clara University and an MBA from Loyola Marymount University, where her work in quality management across cultures was published through the International Academy of Business Disciplines.
Mary Francia, Vice President Sales & Marketing Home Networks, Consumer Electr onics, Royal Philips Electronics: A global telecommunications executive with experience in Europe, North and South America, Mary Francia is Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Philips Consumer Electronics, a division of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands. In this position, Ms. Francia has responsibility for developing Home Networks in the Americas with IP enabled devices for access, communications, control, and entertainment. Ms. Francia joined Philips in 2003 as Senior Director, Operator Business Innovation for the Division, Region Europe, based in Amsterdam. In this role, as part of the Connected Planet Vision of Philips, she created a new sales channel for Consumer Electronics, and managed alliances with major Telecom Operators in Europe for cooperation in marketing, distribution, and product creation. Ms. Francia has held executive positions in Sales & Marketing in Healthcare, Cable TV, Wireless, and OEM Outsourcing. A native of Peru, Ms. Francia has an MBA in International Business. She and her husband, Gus have 2 children and live in Atlanta, USA
