Barbara Meili, Chair of New York Media and Entertainment Practice, Greeberg Traur ig LLP: Barbara Meili's practice consists primarily of representing some of the top companies in the United States broadcast and cable industries including News Corporation, Univision, NBC Universal, YES Network, the National Hockey League and Scripps Networks. Clients look to her group for savvy legal experience in all aspects of content distribution (including broadcast, cable, satellite, broadband and mobile platforms), digital media and digital rights management, content license arrangements, equity arrangements, and FCC and other regulatory issues. Barbara also provides general corporate representation of clients in connection with purchases of programming entities. Meili has consistently been recognized as a leading lawyer in her field by: Best Lawyers in America, Legal 500, and Super Lawyers Magazine, among others.
Tara Maitra, Vice President, General Manager of Programming, Tivo: In this role , Maitra is responsible for cultivating relationships with content companies and unique content offerings for delivery via broadband. Previously, Maitra served as Senior Director of content development at Comcast, where she was responsible for day-to-day operations of Select on Demand, a collection of new niche non-linear networks delivered via video on-demand and broadband. Maitra helped to create new channels through partnerships, acquisitions and original programming. Prior to Comcast, Maitra was Executive Vice President, General Manager of Primedia Digital Video, where she developed on-demand and broadband video businesses for Primedia's established print franchises. Her accomplishments include launching video services on Comcast and Real Networks. Ms. Maitra also held a series of editorial and management positions at NBC, including Vice President, General Manager of CNBC/Dow Jones Business Video, a joint venture of NBC, Microsoft and Dow Jones. There she led the development and managed one of the first profitable streaming video web sites to offer financial content thru both subscription and syndication models. A graduate of Washington and Lee University, located in Lexington, Virginia, Ms. Maitra holds a B.A. in Journalism and Psychology.
Kenneth Papagan, President & Chief Strategy Officer, Rentrak Corporation: Mr. P apagan is responsible for incubating, implementing and driving operations of all new business initiatives and setting the strategic direction of Rentrak Corporation, a leader in audience measurement tracking media consumption across numerous distribution platforms including, Theatrical Film, Home Video, On Demand Content, and Advertising. Ken was a founding executive for the start-up of 9 television networks including Nickelodeon, MTV, ON TV, and the JCPenny Shopping Channel where he was Co-Executive Producer. For the past 10 years, Ken has been primarily focused on Digital Media across all platforms globally working with such clients as AT&T, Broadband, USWest, Bloomberg, Flextech and others. Among his accomplishments at Rentrak are the launches of Retail Essentials and OnDemand Essentials, which is currently aggregating VOD viewer usage data for more than 50% of the VOD, enabled cable universe, including Comcast, Cablevision and others. The service is currently processing overnight On Demand data representing 32 million set top boxes. The service has garnered 42 content providing clients including NBC/Universal, CBS, MTV, Paramount, and Warner Brothers. He is currently developing New Business in On Demand Advertising and Linear Television audience measurement.
David Kenin, is the Executive Vice President of Programming for Crown Me dia Holdings, Inc., owner and operator of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. Based in the channels Los Angeles office, he has oversight responsibilities for development, acquisitions, program administration, scheduling, creative services and all corporate communications and program publicity initiatives for the networks. He reports to Henry Schleiff, President and Chief Executive Officer, Crown Media. At Hallmark Channel, Kenins programming choices and strategic scheduling tactics have brought the network huge ratings increases. 2007 was the most successful year ever, and the network continues to rank as a top 10 network month-after-month. Prior to joining Hallmark Channel, Kenin headed Los Angeles-based Kenin Partners. He represented clients including Viacom, Microsoft and Lucent Technologies in areas of business development, international programming, international sports rights and new technology. From 1994 to 1997, Kenin served as President of CBS Sports where he oversaw the rebuilding of the networks sports division through extensive acquisition and renewal of such sports rights as the NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament, the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament and the Masters Golf Tournament. Kenin spent 12 years at USA Networks as Executive Vice President where he helped the network become the number one network in basic cable. Besides his innovations at the USA Network, Kenin is also credited as an architect of the SCI FI Channel, overseeing its branding and programming initiatives. In addition to his career at CBS Sports and USA Networks, he was station manager for Scripps-Howards Kansas City station, KSHB-TV, and has served in a variety of executive positions at Metromedia, ABC, Field Communications and CBS. Kenin currently serves on the board of WWE. He was awarded the Danny Thomas/Sheldon Leonard Fellowship at S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University, where he received a Master of Science in communications; and the Distinguished Alumnus Award at the University of Oregon, where he received a Master of Arts in English.
Jay Samit, former EVP at Sony Corporation of America: A 25 year digital media ve teran, Jay Alan Samit has held senior management positions with Sony, EMI, and Universal Studios with the responsibility for the development of new business, with a particular focus on digital media. Samit broke new ground with his forays into wireless, ringtones, streaming radio, secure P2P and subscription business models. Samit championed digital download initiatives, and created global policies that combated piracy and enabled artists to make significant gains in the online music space. Samits aggressive move into mobile and the digital distribution of music made digital distribution into a leading profit center for his companies including generating over $100 million in profit in just one year. Active in the developer community, Samit nurtures start-up companies and helps take them public in markets around the globe. Working with artist and managers to develop new sustainable revenue streams, along with his role as one of the leading authorities on new media, garnered Samit the Gavin Label Executive of the Year in 2000. Prior to joining corporate America, Samit founded Jasmine Multimedia Publishing. During his leadership, the company created more than 300 software titles, and developed key advances in music and video technologies for Microsoft, Apple, Intel, and IBM. He and his products received numerous awards, including Best of Show Comdex; Best of RetailVision; Best of E3; Multimedia Producer Top 100; and the Newsweek Editors Choice Award. Committed to giving back to the community, Samit was invited by President Clinton to lead the White Houses Initiative for Education & Technology, and spearheaded the effort to create Internet access for Americas schools. Samits collaboration with the White House spurred the creation of the National Education Technology Initiative (NETI). Samit also served as director of this non-profit organization dedicated to the goal of providing universal access to the Internet for Americas youth. Samits other charity work ranges from the first Internet Charity Auction to Tsunami Aid (with NBC) and the Concert for Hurricane Relief (with MTV). Samit has sat on the board of several publicly traded companies and is on the board of the University of Southern Californias Stevens Institute of Innovation. He is a member of the Writers Guild of America and a performing member of the Magic Castle. A recipient of the Presidential Fellowship, Samit graduated magna cum laude from UCLA.
Stuart McKechnie, Director of Strategic Marketing at Zoran Corporation since 2004, has more than twenty-five years experience in high-tech electronics. He has directed projects that range from strategic planning through product specification, management, development and marketing to sales and customer support. His experience includes time with technology startups as well as more than fifteen years with the global giant Philips Electronics, serving at both Philips Semiconductors and Philips Consumer Electronics. His focus has been on high-volume products and services developed from leading edge consumer electronics technology, with a special emphasis on digital imaging. Stuart holds a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Southampton in the UK, where he specialized in analyzing space imagery.
