Peter Daley, Vice President, Union Square Advisers: Peter Daley is a Vice President of UNION SQUARE ADVISORS. Prior to joining Union Square, Mr. Daley was an Equity Research Analyst at Rutberg & Company, where he led the firms coverage of the Digital Media sector and was a regularly featured speaker at industry events such as CES, NAB, and CTIA. Formerly, Mr. Daley was Vice President of Marketing and board director for Clearbridge, a provider of on-demand procurement control software, where he was responsible for new product initiatives and sales channel development. Before joining Clearbridge, Mr. Daley founded web-based enterprise software company BuildPoint, where he served as CFO, EVP of Strategy, and board director. Prior to founding BuildPoint, Mr. Daley was a Corporate Finance Analyst in the Technology Group at Credit Suisse First Boston. Mr. Daley graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, earning a BSE in Electrical Engineering from the Moore School and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School.
Larry Gerbrandt, Principal, Media Valuation Partners: A leading media and entertainment executive, research analyst and consultant for more than 25 years, he has focused on the economic and strategic implications of the intersection between traditional media and emerging content delivery technologies. As principal of Media Valuation Partners he oversees the firms valuation, strategic consulting, market research and litigation support engagements advising clients on the economics of media and content. Prior to launching MVP he was SVP/general manager of Nielsen Analytics, a division of The Nielsen Company, focusing on emerging media technology economics and conducting primary research on consumer adoption of new media platforms. He was also at Kagan World Media (now SNL Kagan) for nearly 20 years. In 2000, after Kagans sale to Primedia, he became COO and led its integration into Primedias MediaCentral division. His background also includes experience in film and video production, commercial photography, cable TV system operations and magazine publishing. Over the course of his career Mr. Gerbrandt has worked on some of the largest and most notable valuation and litigation support assignments in the film and entertainment industry, including serving as Disneys valuation expert in the Katzenberg v. Disney case and on behalf of Dick Wolf in Wolf v. NBC Universal. Major valuation assignments have included MGM/UA, The Weinstein Co., Carolco, The Learning Channel, Tempo TV, The Litchfield Theaters, The Health Channel, Mind Extension University, among many others. While at Kagan he launched more than 25 newsletters and databook products, including The Economics of Basic Cable Networks, Cable Network Investor, TV Program Investor, VOD Investor and Streaming Media Investor. During his Nielsen tenured he authored several ground-breaking analyses on consumer adoption of emerging media platforms and the economic implications of these usage shifts, including Benchmarking The Digital Household and The Economics of On-Demand Programming.
Derek L. Norton, Managing Partner, Watertower Group: Derek Norton is an accomplished entrepreneur and venture capitalist with over 18 years of business building and executive management experience in the technology, internet and media industries. Derek is the founder and Managing Partner of Watertower Group. He was most recently a partner at Entertainment Media Ventures (EMV), a Michael Milken backed seed and early stage venture capital fund located in Los Angeles, California. Prior to EMV Derek founded two southern California based technology companies. Derek was a founding member and partner of Entertainment Media Ventures, a $120 million dollar seed and early stage venture capital fund focused on investment in broadband infrastructure, consumer internet and digital media sectors. Having lead investments in Kassena, Matchcraft and Relegence amongst others, Derek helped guide and support EMV portfolio companies with their growth, strategic initiatives and capitalization strategies. Prior to EMV, Derek spent the first ten years of his career as a technology entrepreneur. Having founded both Jeffries Technologies and Digital Boardwalk, were he developed a diversified background in technology, media, business building and executive management. From 1991 until 1998, Derek helped build Jeffries into one of Inc. Magazines 500 fastest growing privately held U.S. companies providing network enterprise architecture and systems integration to Global 2000 businesses. In 1995, he founded Digital Boardwalk, a provider of web based service solutions to traditional businesses and new media business ventures. As Netscapes second commercial partner, Digital Boardwalk was a pioneer in the provisioning of internet technologies, e-commerce development, and marketing solutions to a wide range of companies and industries. Clients included CBS SporstLine, eToys, Office Max, Hughes Global Services, News Corp, and Hewlett Packard. Derek holds a BA in Communications from the University of Southern California. He serves on several corporate boards, and is the founder of Connex. He supports charities focused on improving the lives and education of at-risk youths, is a member of the board of directors of The Fulfillment Fund, a Los Angeles based organization providing educational mentoring and support, and was previously Vice President of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Contemporaries.
Lori H. Schwartz, Senior Vice President, Director of Emerging Media, Interpublic Emerging Media Lab: As Senior Vice President and Director of the Interpublic Emerging Media Lab, a center for marketing innovation located in Los Angeles, Lori provides consultation and solution recommendations for the latest in broadband, wireless and emerging media for the Interpublic groups global client roster, as well as facilitating emerging media upfronts and exclusive partnerships for the company and its clients. She has worked with a number of clients including Microsoft, Avery Dennison, Intel, Nestle and Sony. Prior to serving as Director of the Lab, Lori served as an interactive/new media producer at McCann Worldgroup, providing interactive expertise for the agencys Los Angeles client base. She worked with clients to create original content solutions across multiple channels. Lori also facilitated partnerships with entertainment, sports and other content providers, and served as the agency representative on all issues pertaining to emerging media. An active participant in many industry organizations, Lori is a member of the Producers Guild of Americas New Media Council and has led a project for the American Film Institute's Digital Content Lab. She is also an executive committee member of the Interactive Peer Group for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She participates in a number of advanced advertising standardizations groups and is a highly regarded industry speaker. When she is not working with clients, Lori can be found on stage in Hollywood, occasionally performing with improvisational comedy theaters.
Seth Shapiro is a two-time Emmy® Award winner, and a recognized leader in the profitable application of new technology to emerging business models. Shapiro has managed digital media initiatives for and with partners including Disney, DIRECTV, TiVo, HBO, STARZ, CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN, the NFL, MLB, Microsoft, Wink, Cendant, Jones Intercable and ACTV. He is Principal of New Amsterdam Media LLC. SVP Strategy of the Opportunity Management Company and a partner at Media Valuation Partners. As a consultant, Shapiro has worked with media clients including Showtime, Time Warner Cable, Sun Microsystems, CompleteTV, DigisoftTV, Goldman Sachs, Endemol and SVT. Most recently, he is co-founder and CEO of ARC: The A&R Channel, a Comcast On Demand channel available in 15,000,000 US cable homes. As Head of Production at DIRECTV Advanced Services, Shapiro managed over 20 service launches across four platforms, led production on DIRECTV/TiVo, designed the groundbreaking NFL DVR Highlights On Demand Service and was a key contributor to the 2002 DIRECTV/TiVo Master Agreement. Shapiro is a member of OVP Venture Partners' Technology Advisory Group, the IP Media Conference/SATCON Advisory Board, the Television Academy's Blue Ribbon Emmy Committee and the Producer's Guild. He is a magna cum laude graduate of NYU and was Adelbert Alumni Scholar at Case Western Reserve and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
