Track IV:
Mobile Commerce and Content - The Mobile Web, Off Deck Content, Mobile Search and Advertising Options
As hundreds of millions of consumers nationally and billions worldwide make and rely on for mobile their primary communications tool, the value of the market as a commercial vehicle explodes in unimaginable ways. What will the services of the future be, who will participate in delivering those services and how will the revenue be both generated and shared in the process is a fascinating discussion. It is clear that the basic bottleneck of both technology, content and revenue which currently rests within the universe of the service provider will evolve into a shared experience among many tiers of players. Much like the cable industry’s evolution into an expanded relationship with partners, the service providers are entering and experimenting with their own set of relationships and partners. In this session, we will begin to explore how the new expanded technology, content and revenue based relationships are evolving.

Morgan Guenther, Chairman and CEO, AirPlay Network, Inc.: Since TV became a fixture in American homes more than 50 years ago, innovators have been tilting at the windmill that is interactive TV. AirPlay’s Chairman and CEO Morgan Guenther, the former TiVo President who helped teach consumers to watch television on their terms, is now creating viewing experiences for the masses that let fans participate in their favorite shows and events. Morgan and AirPlay are inciting a TV-watching revolution for viewers who crave an active role with TV programming that has been passive until now. AirPlay combines the ubiquitous mobile phone, the Web and television’s most popular shows to give sports and entertainment enthusiasts a completely new communal and interactive viewing experience. Interactive TV has finally arrived. Before AirPlay, starting in 1999, Morgan navigated TiVo’s branding, partner alliances, technology development and broadband spaces as vice president and senior vice president. He also led the TiVo Entertainment Group and TiVo Studios business units. In 2001, he became President of TiVo and maintained that role for several years before leaving to explore new, disruptive opportunities in the digital media space. Asked to describe his most important lesson from his time at TiVo, Morgan says, “I learned that changing viewing behavior in the living room is something that takes time, money and consumer education, but with the right proposition and partners it is both possible and profitable.” Morgan holds a BA and JD from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife. In addition to AirPlay, Morgan acts as an outside director for Integral Development, a Silicon Valley-based provider of trading systems for financial institutions, and Tier Technologies, a financial transaction processing and system integration services company based in Reston, Va
