David Bean began his music industry career as a Disc Jockey, Music Director, and Program Director in FM "Album Oriented Rock" (AOR) radio in California, and as PD led the station from last place to #1 in the Arbitron ratings for the 18-34 age group in the combined Monterey, Santa Cruz, and Salinas markets. After 5-years in radio, Dave was hired by Pacific Arts Records, owned by legendary singer/songwriter Michael Nesmith, to promote their artists to radio. Within two years, he became president of the company, which began Producing and Licensing music video entertainment, ranging from Nesmith's Grammy award-winning “Elephant Parts” to “Best of Blondie,” Jethro Tull’s “Slipstream,” and even Bruce Brown’s classic surf movie, “The Endless Summer.” During this period, Nesmith produced the pilot programs for MTV, called Popclips. David Bean became president of CTI Records in New York, distributed by both major and independent distribution during his tenure. Producer Creed Taylor, known for his work with Grover Washington, George Benson and many others, owns the label. Bean opened his own independent record labels releasing music from many great artists, including Jesse Colin Young (The Youngbloods), Georgie Fame (with Van Morrison), and Will Lee (from Letterman's Late Night Band). Bean was one of the first to license Masters to eMusic, iTunes, & others for digital distribution. Between 2000 and 2008 Bean helped pioneer Internet Radio, as the VP music programming for Arbitron Top 5 rated Musicmatch Internet Radio; as a Director for baseBeat.com placing Internet Radio at SingaporeAirlines.com; as a Director for OnRadio.com overseeing music streaming and eCommerce; and currently as a Program Director for Internet Radio at Slacker.com. He was a guest speaker at the 2001 Gavin Radio convention introducing Internet Radio. In September, Bean announced the opening of Artist Airplay Advisors, a service for Digital Labels and Recording Artists self-released online. The technology industry has given more musicians the ability to self-release their recordings and for digital labels to distribute music online, which has created a situation where good music that might work well for radio programming is not always serviced to broadcast Music Directors anymore. Artist Airplay Advisors strives to inform musicians about all formats of radio and to bring their music to broadcast radio when appropriate, backed by the company's experience in Terrestrial and Internet radio, Record Labels, Concert & Club Booking, Artist Management, and Grammy membership (producers & engineers wing).
