Track II: Advertising Analytics and Social Media, Search, Video Search and HyperTargeting As advertising continues to embrace broadband in all its manifestations, via the PC, mobile, games and TV, having a complete understanding of its reach and impact is only beginning to charted and broken down. Broadband advertising in all its forms, text, video and display are taking forms that only the interactive technologies can provide. Whether its search or a form of hypertargeting, we are only at the early stages of fully appreciating the impact and return on investment. In this session, the analytics of advertising in the emerging and more cutting edge platforms of social media, search and broadband video will be explored. Jarvis Coffin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Burst Media: Jarvis is a co-founder of Burst Media and has served as its Chief Executive Officer since its inception in 1995 and as a Director since 2000. From 1993 to 1995, Jarvis worked at the Los Angeles Times where he was Director of National Advertising. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Sales at Business Week for two years. Between 1985 and 1991, Jarvis was employed at USA Today where he held various positions, including Director of Northeastern Sales. He began his advertising career in 1979 at Dancer Fitzgerald Sample in New York. Jarvis has been a member of the Advertising Club of New York and the Lantern Club of Boston and was Chairman of the Newspaper Association of America's Committee on Financial Advertising. Jarvis obtained a BA in Political Science from Hobart College.
Jay Kulkarni, CEO & Founder, Theorem: Jay Kulkarni founded Theorem in 2002 and managed it from a four person startup to a company with over 300 global employees and dozens of clients sustaining hyper growth year over year. Theorem is a pioneer in offering ad operations, search operations and specialized technology and analytical services to digital marketers. Theorem incubated and launched Theorem Analytics, an innovative solution to gather data from disparate online campaigns. Jay is a veteran in the online advertising space having launched products that are leaders in the online marketing industry today. As one of the earliest employees at DoubleClick, Jay headed up product management for their advertiser solutions, taking DART for Advertisers product from white board concept to over $25 million in revenue within two years. Later, he was responsible for the DARTmail platform managing both organic product development, technology integration through two mergers and managing teams across North America. Jay has a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from Karnataka University, India and an MBA from New York Institute of Technology, NY.
Marissa Gluck, Founder and Managing Partner, Radar Research: Marissa Gluck is a writer, speaker and consultant covering the marketing and media industries. Named one of the ten "Thought Leaders of 2000" by Hub Magazine, Gluck has often been quoted in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Advertising Age and Business Week. Additionally, she has appeared on CNBC, CBS Marketwatch, CNNfn, and NPR. Gluck has spoken at major industry conferences in the United States and Europe including AAAAANA e-business Conference and Trade Show, AD:TECH, and JupiterCannes Lions Global Advertising Forum. She has also addressed several university audiences and professional organizations, including USC's Annenberg School of Communication, NYU's Stern School of Business, and the IAB. Gluck was formerly a senior analyst at Jupiter Research, where she advised clients including Interpublic, Doubleclick, CBS, AOL Time Warner, and WPP on online advertising and marketing. Prior to joining Jupiter, Gluck was the research and emerging technologies specialist at i-traffic, providing strategic analysis and oversight of partnerships for clients such as Eddie Bauer, CDnow and Disney. Before that, she worked in account management at the advertising firm Ammirati Puris Lintas (now Lowe). Gluck earned her bachelors from Binghamton University and two masters degrees in global media and communication from the London School of Economics and the University of Southern California
Ian Swanson is founder and CEO of Sometrics, the first analytics company to focus on social networking platforms. He and his team created a way to provide detailed analytics of millions of daily users of social platforms like Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and others. The Sometrics solution helps developers and advertisers better understand how people are using social media, so developers can monetize their applications and advertisers can more effectively reach their target audiences. Before launching Sometrics, Swanson was business development manager for Userplane, an AOL company that provides social media apps to hundreds of thousands of online communities, supporting millions of users daily. Swanson was instrumental in helping the company extend the reach of its hosted chat, IM and other communications apps, and in building the company's ad network. Before Userplane, he was an executive with Sprint and helped launch two mobile web startups. As a social media insider, Swanson has been invited to speak on many social media topics relating to platform apps, social marketing and performance-based analytics. Swanson actively advises several successful social networking applications, Fortune 500 companies and startups with their brand and marketing strategies within the social media ecosystem. Swanson earned his bachelor's degree in economics from University of California, Santa Barbara.
Ben Fox, Vice President of Product Management, Adconion Media Group: Prior to Adconion Media Group, Ben Fox founded Search Octane, a search and SEO Marketing company providing consulting services to various early stage companies (www.searchoctane.com). Prior to Search Octane, he was engaged at Overture Services (NASDAQ:OVER) - later acquired by Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO). Ben served at Yahoo for almost four years where he worked in a senior product management position to build innovative and business critical products for several major types of new online advertising (Search, Contextual, Behavioral, and RSS Advertising). He also supported the launch of the Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN). Prior to Yahoo, Ben was interim CEO of Jomba Inc. www.jombainc.com (Angel Funded) which provided matching algorithm services to Job Boards. He also worked in technical sales in the enterprise software business selling sales configuration software at Trilogy Software in Austin, TX. Ben holds a BS in Business plus a major in German from Skidmore College.
Chase Norlin, CEO, Pixsy: Mr. Norlin is the CEO of Pixsy Corporation, the leading B2B provider of video and image search. Mr. Norlin has spent the last 15 years in the emerging technologies and digital media space. Prior to Pixsy, Mr. Norlin served as Senior Business Development Executive at ValueClick (NASDAQ:VCLK) where he managed publisher distribution and emerging technologies for the ValueClick display ad network, paid search, and comparison shopping divisions. Prior to ValueClick, Mr. Norlin held the position of Senior Business Development Consultant to InfoSpace (NASDAQ:INSP) charged with publisher distribution and emerging applications for the paid search division. Previously, Mr. Norlin developed Sony's first online photo sharing venture and founded the web's first video sharing company ShareYourWorld. Mr. Norlin also served as an EIR at Boeing Ventures in launching Boeing's (NYSE:BA) online photo and video licensing division. Mr. Norlin has served on the advisory board of CampusPoint (www.campuspoint.com), a leading online recruiting and staffing firm, and currently serves on the board of AdBid Central (www.adbidcentral.com)), the leading futures marketplace for the buying and selling of premium display advertising. He received his BA from UC Berkeley and MA from The University of Chicago and is a regular speaker on digital media, online advertising, and search. Recent speaking engagements include OMMA, NATPE, Bear Stearns Annual Media Conference, Goldman Sachs Ninth Annual Global Media Conference, iMediaConnection, Digital Media Summit, Monaco Media Forum, AlwaysOn, TheDeal, Gnomedex, and Digital Hollywood.
