Internet Video, Advertising & Marketing: The Next Generation of Consumer Reach
Video on the Internet has finally passed the critical threshold of acceptance by the advertising and marketing communities as a more than viable alternative to traditional media. Internet delivered video has not only entered the advertising space, it has invaded it and in a very short number of years, Internet delivered video will be a dominant entertainment and communications consumer medium. The scary part for traditional media, Internet delivered video may end up on a PC, a mobile device or on a TV and for the advertising and marketing industries, an emerging and maturing delivery system to an ever elusive audience is exactly what they are looking for. Waikit Lau, Co-Founder and President/COO, ScanScout: Waikit has extensive expe rience building emerging media businesses and technologies. In his role as Co-Founder and President/COO of ScanScout, Waikit leads the vision and growth of the companys business operations. Prior to co-founding ScanScout, Waikit was the Director of Strategy and Business Development at Scientific Atlanta (a division of Cisco) where he helped lead product strategy for next-generation media delivery platforms. Before Scientific Atlanta, he was an investor at Bessemer Venture Partners, investing in and working with early-stage technology companies. Prior to serving as a VC, Waikit co-founded Photo.net, one of the largest online photo-databases and served as its VP of Product and Business Development. He has also consulted to the CTO and COO of Technology at Merrill Lynch in the technology strategy and operation areas. Waikit holds Bachelors degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Finance from MIT and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is based in Boston, MA.
Erick Hachenburg, CEO, Metacafe: Erick Hachenburg - brings more than 15 years of experience in market creation, global expansion, operations and publishing to his role as Metacafe CEO. Prior to joining Metacafe, Hachenburg was Electronic Arts senior vice president of global online publishing and managing director of EA China. In this role, he developed and led EAs key strategic initiatives, including the companys entry into the digital distribution of retail games, as well as the rapid expansion of EA's Pogo casual games platform and business. He also established EAs online production, operations and publishing capabilities in Asia. Hachenburg joined EA following the companys 2001 acquisition of Pogo.com, the industry leader in the casual games market that Hachenburg founded and built to nearly 1.5 million subscribers. Hachenburg began his career as an intellectual property attorney at Fenwick & West. He holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a BS in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois.
Daphne Kwon, co-founded Expo Communications, the first and largest video-based pr oduct research network, specifically tailored for the consumer in control. The programming service, launched November 2004, is available on broadband at expotv.com and in over 20 million VOD homes through partnerships with Comcast, Time Warner, Charter, Verizon, and other cable operators. Prior to founding Expo, Ms. Kwon served as Chief Financial Officer and a founding employee of Oxygen Media, overseeing all financial aspects of Oxygens operations. Ms. Kwon developed the companys annual budget, long range plan and prepared communications to the Board of Directors. She participated in various business development and planning initiatives including authoring the initial business plan, structuring over $500 mil of financing, negotiating and integrating new media acquisitions, and securing distribution for the cable network. In addition, Ms. Kwon oversaw key operating departments including technology, human resources, and facilities. Prior to joining Oxygen, Ms. Kwon worked for the President of the Disney/ABC Cable Networks to develop new business initiatives, which resulted in the successful launches of Toon Disney, SoapNet, and the Lifetime Movie Network. She was also a member of the financial management committees representing Disneys interests in the A&E Networks, Lifetime Networks and E! Television. Prior to moving to ABC, Ms Kwon worked in Disneys Corporate Strategic Planning Department, where she was responsible for business planning of the media companys television, film and recorded music divisions. Ms. Kwon has also worked in investment banking within Morgan Stanleys Corporate Restructuring Group. She holds business degrees from Harvard Business School and the University of Michigan. She was named as both a top 100 Women in Cable and Most Influential Minorities in Cable by Cable World magazine, and selected as a Top 40 under 40 business leader by Crains New York Business magazine. She is a member of WICT, NAMIC, and CTAM.
Zach Posner, Head of Interactive and Business Development, National Lampoon: Zach is presently the Vice President of Corporate Development for National Lampoon. In his current role he helps to guide corporate strategy and works day to day overseeing the network division which includes National Lampoons College Television, Radio and Internet activities. Zach joins National Lampoon from World Avenue, an Internet marketing services and technology company that specializes in serving the Fortune 1000, where he worked in the corporate development group. Posner's main responsibilities were developing strategic partnerships and acquisition opportunities to help grow World Avenue. Before joining World Avenue, Zach worked in the venture capital industry focused on technology investments and in the transaction services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Zach graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.
Mike Dodge is SVP/General Manager of AtomicOnline. He is currently respo nsible for branding, strategic planning, business development, marketing, sales and operations for the CraveOnline, SheKnows and TeenCrunch brands. He was formerly General Manager for the Home & Real Estate Division for Internet Brands, Inc. where he oversaw the divisions expansion from 3 to 11 major web properties. Prior to this, he served as Sr. VP/Strategy at GE Money - WMC Mortgage, where he developed a number of new product and business ventures for GE before running their cross-border mortgage lending business. He also served as CMO for ZENSYS A/S, a Cisco & Intel-backed wireless technology company, and held management positions with McKinsey & Co. and the Proctor & Gamble Company. He holds an MBA from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
Scott Cohen, CEO of DimeStore Media, a company that produces and distribu tes a syndicated game show on the Internet using TV commercials in a quiz format. Cohen was a founding Partner in the Red Tie Media Group. He has over 30 yrs experience in strategic deal making, negotiation and leadership, playing a major role in developing businesses during the growth of the Internet in the USA and Europe. He has demonstrated success in both corporate and entrepreneurial environments, most recently in media, interactive marketing, and entertainment. As a co-founder and senior level executive, Cohen was critical to the success of two IPO's over the past nine years: 24/7 Media, sold to WPP Advertising Group for $649 million and LivePerson (NASDAQ: LPSN). Cohen is the former President of Game Trust, which sold to Real Networks. Scott has worked with the most senior executives in a variety of leading companies, including AOL, New World Television, MacAndrews & Forbes, Revlon, and Marvel. Cohen earned his MBA in 1988 from the University of Rochester, William Simon School of Business, after ten years in the real estate industry. Cohen currently serves on the Board of Directors for Double Trump, LeadFusion, and Active Response Group.
Chase Norlin, Chief Executive Officer, Pixsy Corporation: Mr. Norlin has spent th e last 15 years in the emerging technologies and media distribution space. Prior to Pixsy, Mr. Norlin served as Senior Business Development Executive at ValueClick (NASDAQ:VCLK). In this role he focused on publisher distribution and emerging technologies for the ValueClick Media Ad Network and developed distribution opportunities for other divisions including Search and Comparison Shopping. Prior to ValueClick, Mr. Norlin held the position of Senior Business Development Consultant to InfoSpace (NASDAQ:INSP) charged with publisher distribution and emerging applications for the Search division. Previously, Mr. Norlin created Sony's first online photo sharing venture and founded the web's first video sharing company. Mr. Norlin also launched Boeing's (NYSE:BA) online photo and video licensing division while serving as Strategic Consultant to the company. Mr. Norlin received his BA from UC Berkeley and MA from The University of Chicago and occasionally offers technology predictions on his blog at http://vizlog.blogspot.com. Pixsy was recently selected among the AlwaysOn Media Top 100 Companies; and named in Time Magazines Top 50 Companies of 2006. Mr. Norlins recent speaking engagements include OMMA, iHollywood Forum, AlwaysOn, TheDeal, and Digital Hollywood.
Max Haot, CEO, Mogulus: Based in New York, Max is presently the Founder and CE O at Mogulus (www.mogulus.com). Max is an expert in broadcast technologies and workflow, he previously founded ICF (www.icf.tv) a media asset management platform which was sold to Verizon Business in 2005. He held positions as VP of Digital Media at Verizon Business and Senior Vice President at IMG Interactive. Max is a recognized digital content industry pioneer and is regularly invited to speak and contribute at industry events/forums for the broadcast, broadband and mobile industry.
